The high school I went to did this musical years ago (I was pretty young at the time and still in middle school). It will always hold a special spot in my heart. I wish it got more recognition!
I was in the german production today in this song was hilarious 😄 After the first refrain the girls suddenly wore swimsuits with the US flag, soldiers with sunglasses danced and a Captain America Cosplayer showed up and fought against these soldiers while the girls were dancing.

Not only was it musically better due to the powerful orchestra in the background accompanying the vocals, with the lyrics made much more sense during the story. It wasn't just some teens complaining about how they can't find good men, Shrek was the hero who was literally coming to save the day. And Fiona knew that Charming wasn't Shrek and she knew something was up, she was waiting for Shrek to come, she was literally holding out for a hero. That's why that scene is one of the most epic scenes in animation history.
