Thanks for the Sherman series of videos. I am reading the rule book but I was stuck on a few things. I’m new to these type of games but I really like them. Glad to see fellow Marines gaming haha. Former fueler here.
Your videos are great. Makes learning new games a breeze. :) And yep, gotta get sherman now too. Got pretty much every other DVG game so why stop there. :)
Retired Jarhead (aviation) but have gotten into these types of board games. Can see these have an expansion or another variant that does cover operations in the Pacific.... Marines baby!
Just played my first campaign. I started with North Africa, but used the Invasion objective. It was brutal. I started with 2 battalions in the Friendly Staging area and only managed to destroy one of them in the first week. By the end of the second week's Battalion move step, I was down to 4 SO points, and had a supply battalion that was going to remove 1 of those SO points. And of course 3 of the 4 battalions in the Front moved forward to Friendly Transit...campaign over. Thanks for the giveaway. Definitely interested.
0:02 what is this game in the intro? 3:33 funny thing is that the supposed "starter" campaing is the one that literally gives the Germans +1 on every attack aimed at your tanks. 14:29 omg another person got it wrong. It's the amount of points *to which you need to reduce the enemy force* for them to count as reduced/destroyed. You check for it at the end of every turn. 33:00 that AP4 might be problematic...
Hey Gimpy! Just found this review as I’m considering finally trying a DVG war game…as I was watching your intro what were the games in the beginning? Great main vid btw!
Oh wow that was my old first intro video. I remember LNL Tactical is in it, that Sherlock Detective game, Slient Victory, and Struggle for a Galactic Empire by Decision Games. Might be one more I am missing off the top of my head.
In a choice between the 2 I would pick ATA all the way. It's not that SL is a bad game, but I think you get more gameplay out of less material with ATA. Plus it's cheaper. If you enjoy the managing your resources aspect of a game then Sherman would win on that since you have to manage your resources and crew to accomplish the mission. ATA is just easier to play though and can be setup/torn down in a snap. It takes me forever to film a game and I filmed 3 missions of ATA in one evening because it was so easy to keep playing. Both are good but ATA is just better.....IMO
@@thegimpygamer Cheers for the feedback, it's greatly appreciated. I'm currently looking at availability and both have caught my interest. Admittedly in terms of cost there's little (if any) difference for me due to the poor availability of Compass Games' products over here in the UK. It also doesn't help that the cost of shipping direct from Compass Games to the UK is a significantly higher thna many of its competitors, at least from those I've looked at in the past. I've some familiarity with other entries into the leader series so this was another reason for my curiosity. Between the two I'll admit that ATA certainly looks to be more inline with what I'm currently looking for.
@FreeFrag.UK yea shipping has gotten pretty bad. It sucks everywhere but people dealing with VAT really are punished with it. Oh and this video is so bad!!!!! The difference in quality between then and now is astonishing to me. Plus then I didn't know about "youtube voice" so I sound so drab and dull🤣🤣🤣. At least I have improved since then.
@@thegimpygamer It does but unfortunately I still don't know why there's such discrepancy between Compass and the other USA based companies I've looked at. It's all progress. The difference between this video and your more recent ones shows that your skills and knowledge have grown.
I think the OD rule represents the fact that in this theatre US armoured forces were poorly trained, over confident and ignored advice when it came to fighting Germans, rather than their vehicles were painted an unsuitable colour.
dvg game sells minatures for sherman leader that are twice as large "scale" as the minatures they sell for tiger lesder. Does anyone know why the scale has changed????
+The Original Grognard I don't believe it specifies Army or Marine anywhere but if while playing against the Japanese you win you can assume Marines, and if you lose then assume Army😉
Shame it's all U.S. forces when N.Africa was mainly a British campaign with U.S allies. I wouldn't buy this game for that reason. I don't have anything against the late comers, I have games that feature U.S forces, but I would prefer more historical accuracy.
What are you talking about? There are multiple campaigns in the game with N Africa just being one of them. There are campaigns in 1945 Berlin where the US forces absolutely weren't late comers. If the game were solely about N Africa you might have a point, but it definitely is not.
@@thegimpygamer I guess the game is made in the US, so it'll be biased that way. So what other allies are represented in the other campaigns? Berlin should certainly feature the Soviets.
@@melbeasley9762 a game called Sherman Leader is obviously going to feature US units. Just like the upcoming T34 Leader will feature Soviet units. That's not bias.

Thank you for these videos. I will need to start saving up for this game. It looks great. I love the changing terrain tiles.
Amazing video!! You nailed the set up for Sherman Leader, and I love the red mug you use for your enemy tanks!
Great video! Getting this for Christmas. You have heightened my anticipation! Looking forward to part 2.
This is great. Just picked up my 1st DVG game 'B-17 FFL', and I am certainly now looking to Sherman Leader or Tiger Leader for the next one.

Great job. Just got mine today, going to be a fun weekend.
Looks like fun. I can't wait to see the next part!
This looks great thanks for the Play-through Gimpy
wow. you got so much in that package. thanks for the show again

Thanks for this! Have been looking forward to seeing this one played.
great video!! thanks for putting the time in for great videos
Good video, looking forward to the next part
Great Video. Can't wait until the next part.
Great video ! Am a fan.
I really like the look of this game. I wish Fields of Fire used terrain tiles like these
Awesome review. Thankyou!!
Just got mine in the mail. Looking forward to trying it out.
I've got my copy recently and look forward to giving this a try.

thanks for this, been unable to gt this game to table yet
Great video, thanks!
Sounds like the dogs want to play also. :)
Nice as usual, thank you!
Newbie to boardgames here, since it says Sherman Leader, is there still plenty of combined arms action with infantry, arty, and aircraft? - Thanks
Not aircraft but the other stuff yes

LNL Tactical Day of Heroes
With the exception of the board warping this game looks awesome
Nice video

I received mine recently, I cannot wait to try it. You should contrast it with upgraded Tiger Leader.
Jay Sturgell Don't have tigerleader yet unfortunately.
Out of curiosity how do you rate this in comparison to American Tank Ace from Compass games?

What’s the difference between this and Tiger Leader apart from being US and German?
I cant give specifics as I dont have tiger leader unfortunately. Sorry

No clue. DVG is no longer responding to my emails or messages for some reason. I appear to have been black balled for some reason.
@@thegimpygamer They lost their Customer service manager recently so response time is really slow.
so it has the option for you to play against the Japanese....but is there rules for playing as a Marine force or is it just Army

What's the first game shown in the intro?
Lock n Load Tactical Day of Heroes
Is it better than Tiger Leader?
i'd sure like to see a play of tiger leader with the upgrade kit !
+Tavenhotep Maybe at some point but I don't have Tiger Leader yet. I want it now after playing this though.
Yea, i don't remember playing any DVD games either.
The setup of the game almost seems like a tank version of Warfighter WWII with a map layout added.
Another great video, thanks for doing this. Now I need to buy Sherman Leader.
Did you get Tiger Leader too?
Mark Ørnebjerg Jensen No I don't have TL yet, but am looking to get it after playing SL
TheGimpyGamer Ok, just wondering how different the games are 😊
I have Tiger Leader. It is an appalling mess of a game.
Just received this myself. So...show me...game give away...up for that as well.
