Clip shows can be really interesting, when done right, as you do. I was never a big fan of Joe Flynn, but I used to love watching McHale's Navy when I was a kid. I think that they had a sort of weird chemistry as Commander McHale routinely outfoxed "Ol' Lead Bottom" (isn't that what McHale called him?). I've always had something of a fondness for clever (in)subordinates.
Joe Flynn was funny. Here's a funny story about him. When Bob Newhart got married to Ginny Quinn, her father was character actor Bill Quinn. Joe Flynn was at the wedding and exclaimed "Look who they got to play the father!" Like Bill Quinn wasn't there to give away his daughter but was hired to play a part. I believe he was serious. Pretty funny.
Big fan of My Three Sons and the Absent Minded Professor and Son of Flubber. But my hands down favorite other than Double Indemnity remains Follow Me Boys!
I saw The Monkey's Uncle at The Rancho Drive-in Theater when I was a kid. The theme song from thai film was one of my favorite songs. Annette was the first former Mouseketeer who became a superstar.
I did see Monkey's Uncle, the 3 Matthew Garber movies, Parent Trap and the Fred Mac Murray movies and one not well known The Happiest Millionaire. Very good movie, I have it on DVD. Lesley Ann Warren plays his daughter and a very young (and good looking) John Davidson is her love interest. It's a musical. Take care Steve ❤
I was born in 1945 and I saw and loved Song of the South I still can here him singing..There's a blue bird on my shoulder..its the truth , its actual, Everything is satisfactual. I found it fun and uplifting.. zippy dee do dah zippity yea ! Everyday is a beautuful..❤ People are well .. sick.
Brian Keith did a Disney TV thing called The Tenderfoot with Brandon de Wilde and Richard Long, both of whom died young - deWilde in a car wreck at 30, Long of heart failure at 47.
I have a copy of Song of the South on a Japanese released Laserdisc. One audio track has the dialog dubbed in Japanese, the other is the original English. All the songs are the originals and weren't changed to Japanese. Since Japan and the USA both used the same television standard, NTSC, it plays perfectly on our TV's. I believe it was also released on VHS in the UK but their television standard (PAL) is incompatible with ours . It's one of my favorite Disney films. I saw it in the theater in 1980 for the first time. It was released again in 1986 for the last time.
Why does everything in Great Britain have to be so incompatible with everything in America? I guess we all know the answer to that one. Those damnable Tories!!
I remember the Mickey Mouse Club, but only in reruns from the early 60s. I do still remember that Annette was my favorite, and I named my daughter after her, even though she'll probably never even know who Annette was.😮
I understand the theory that Song of the South was racist but by canceling it, how much did they keep any royalties from the actors and their families? I loved uncle Remus and Hattie! They made that movie. I think it also shows the strength and continuity of the black community vs the white. Anyway, I would love to see that come back to life. How is that worse than Gone with the wind? The best part of that movie was mammie!
Having seen Joe Flynn on the small screen for years when I was a kid, it was a delight for me to see him on the big screen in Disney films when I was a young teenager.
I remember Annette when she was a Mousekateer. She was gorgeous up until she developed MS. I'm 78 now and I remember her entire life very well. RIP Annette.
Fred MacMurray also has the distinction of appearing in Paramounts first technicolor picture the first 3 strip technicolor filmed on location. The picture was The Trail Of The Lonesome Pine.
I've seen Flynn in a few other supporting/cameo roles, even in the classic _Twilight Zone_ TV series playing a befuddled insurance adjuster in the "Escape Clause" episode. He didn't have a dynamic range with it came to acting talents, but he always managed to amusingly bring levity or a light-hardheartedness to any film role he was in; whether it would be an amiable or obnoxious character. The script writers wrote to Flynn's strengths.
New sub. As a veteran of the mouse factory, kept my interest.A lot of info I did not know.Met Ms. Funnicello on the lot while back for Mickey Mouse Club Annniversary Show.Very personable.I told her I used to see her and her daughters at Sunday services in the Valley years before, and she quipped, why didn't you say something? I told her I did not want to intrude during family time.
Please do a tribute to a forgotten family of actors, including Disney feature stars, the Cocoran family. Kevin was in several Disney movies and features while his brothers and sisters all had talented roles in several top movies. His sister Kelly probably had the most tragic early deaths.
Really well done, Steve. It was tragic what happened to Bobby Driscoll 😢 And poor Annette 😢 May they all rest in peace 🙏 It would be cool 😎 if you did more of these. 💥 💥 💥
Song of the South is available on TH-cam. I didn't find it particularly racist, but I always thought Amos and Andy was much more respectful of black people than some of the sitcoms of the seventies that made black people into clowns.
What you said about Joe Flynn triggered me to write this. I never thought he was hilarious funny, and I too thought he overacted, overreacted too much. Now, the bloopers with him are really funny, and he did have a droll sense of humor that worked off screen. But what turned me off most about him was his one appearance on Johnny Carson. Its on youtube here somewhere. He just flat out missed the mark. Even Johnny was looking at him like what the hell are you doing? He made derogatory remarks to Johnny in jest that fell flat, but he did this the entire interview. I dont know what he could possibly have been thinking. He acted like they were old friends which clearly they were not. Anyway, lost to history. Thanks for a great channel!
This was a decent look at Disney actors history but some of the template writing is terrible when you talk about Bobby Driscoll dying at only 31. That's appropriate when you talk about Fred McMurry dying at only 83 that's crap. Crappy editing that screams poor writing and lack of PROOF reading. The same with Annette its tragic she contracted MS a horrible mental disease but if you make it to 70 you had a full rich life. If your too lazy to proof read pay somebody else to do it for you, Finally I saw the original Mickey Mouse club oh BTW it was always after school on weekdays. My Three Sons filmed filmed at Desilu Studios first then moved to CBS Studio. So why was McMurry even in this story. Specially when fact checking on line is so damn easy. There nothing wrong with using AI to help you do content . Not proof reading is so 4th grade. No Sub No like for you 👎
Hello again from Eugene Oregon! Love this " back in time "episode thanks Steve
Glad you enjoyed it!

Check out some episodes of the Match Game that Joe Flynn did not long before he died. He was hysterical.
My three Sons was not from Disney
Very nice channel and thanks for doing such a great job with the disney people. i loved Joe Flynn in Mchales navy. He and Tim conway were so Crazy.

Loved Annette and Mickey Mouse Club..
Sad about Fred McMurray..
Well Steve, now I feel really old seeing I've seen all these actors in their Movies and TV shows . 😄
It's ok, Patricia, I'm happy being on the green side! I'm thinking that being 70 is just fine!😃
Flynn was the funniest actor in Mchales Navy...

Ditto on a great movie!

It’s now considered to be “racist”🙄
I remember the Mickey Mouse Club, but only in reruns from the early 60s. I do still remember that Annette was my favorite, and I named my daughter after her, even though she'll probably never even know who Annette was.😮
Happy new year from Nebraska. I enjoyed the clips. If you do more I’d definitely watch.
Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.
Steve I gotta say you have a great channel and may I add a very soothing voice. I think you could have done audio books.
You may add a very soothing voice but we can’t hear it.

Cold, cold heart of Disney Studios. Walt Disney the dark prince of Hollywood.
I absolutely loved this! Thank you so much! I shared it❤
Awesome! Thank you!
@ You’re welcome !!! You exceeded any expectations I have ever had! Just LOVE it!!!!!
I had no idea Brian Keith died by suicide. I remember him so well on Family Affair. May he rest in peace.
Wow I thought this video was going to be about Disney movies going down hill and how bad there current movies are

Thanks 👍
I thought Joe Flynn was great in McHale's Navy. Didn't see any of his other work.

Hello there! Same to you!

Brian Keiths last movie was in "Rough Riders" as president McKinley..."The Mountain Men" was a favorite.... great character actor
..

Uncle Charlie ❤
Joe Flynn also did the voice of King Vitamin on the King Vitamin commercials.
Brian Keith and Fred MacMurray were my absolute favorites.
great video

Good work sir. I do remember Flynn. Kinda funny

I never saw that one. I'll have to check it out.
He also came out in the highway patrol Joe flynn
Sad to hear what happened to Matthew😅
Like Your stories , even if sad , They short and not too much talk on each actor😀
That’s wild I literally saw a video yesterday about Peg
Me too. I did not know who she was, but I am a curious person and clicked on it because I liked her name. She was beautiful.
You didn't mention Tommy Kirk.
Joe Flynn was the R. Lee Ermy of the 50's and 60's.
Happy New Year Steve ❤❤
Had My Three Sons had stayed on the air another season, Ernie would have gotten married too
Fred MacMurray was "only" 83 years old. That's much too young to die.
He was just a kid really.
I grew up in same town as Flynn and went to same high school. It is p renounced Ray en not raven
🤙🤙
😢❤
You must be brave?
I am a bit❤
Star Disney Luana Patten ? Sad dead.
