We are so lucky to have access to ALL THE THINGS! I began card making 40 years ago and all I had was paper, a black ink pad, stamps on a wood block and colored pencils. I still love to color with Prismacolor pencils and a blender; as for all the other things....YES YES YES.
I appreciate the details and instructions you’ve offered. As a card maker of 14 years (including six years running a card making business and teaching card making classes) I think your suggestions are more appropriate for intermediate card makers. I was really curious about your list when I saw 25 items in the title because when I think of a beginner, I think about the lowest barrier to entry to try the hobby without buying too many hobby specific supplies. Card bases & envelopes, a patterned paper pad (or individual sheets), a black ink pad, one sentiment stamp or sentiment stamp set, adhesive, a ruler, pencil, and scissors are enough to get started with card making. If a new card maker buys everything from a big box store on a good sale weekend, they could get started for $20-30. I’m also a paper planner person and have been recently making cards with card bases and stickers from my planner sticker packs. There are so many inexpensive ways to get started. You made a REALLY GREAT list, a lot of which I don’t own (or own and have never used), and your card is super cute! It just feels like a lot for a beginner. If I was just getting started and saw this video I think the hobby might feel a bit out of reach for me. 😕
As a card maker for many years I think your recommendations for a beginner are on the mark! As someone that was afraid to color, I began stamping on colored cardstock (i,e, stamp the ducks on yellow cardstock, etc) with Memento ink then die cutting. I eventually became more comfortable with coloring.
Excellent coverage of what a beginner might need. The only thing that I would recommend is printed paper, for example, florals, birthday theme. I found that when I began I used printed paper until I could afford to buy some of the other things, like a variety of stamp sets. I would also recommend a good overall sentiment stamp set that covers a variety of phrases.
I have been making cards and Cricut projects for about a year and a half. I was fortunate when I started that I found you and your channel. All of the items you discussed today were the same items you recommended when I first started. I filled my craft room with your expert recommendations and I have been so happy with all of it! You inspire me with your wonderfully soft colors and creative projects. I don’t think I ever had the chance to thank you for your guidance - but this seemed the best time. Thank you, Bethany for your great product recommendations. I have never wasted a nickel on your picks! Keep us inspired! You are a gift!
You rock!! I've been looking for this video! I stumbled onto a card-making video a few weeks ago and thought, wow, that looks like so much fun! I fell down the YT rabbit hole and have been watching all the videos since, lol. I craft all sorts of things but never ventured into card-making. So I wanted to try it. However, oh my goodness at all the different styles and items you seem to need. I was overwhelmed and nearly decided to give the idea up. I've been looking for a video with a basic starting point, and this is it! Thank you so much for doing this and listing all the items one might need to get started, and for explaining them and showing how to use them. That, along with your comments section full of suggestions from other experience makers has truly helped me have a starting point. I'm excited once again and can't wait to try this out. Thank you, thank you!
I just wanted to take a moment to let you know that I appreciate and love everything that you do. Thank you so much for making such lovely and entertaining videos and motivating us every time! Can't wait to see your complete craft room tour.
This was such a wonderful video Bethany! All of yours are but this one was such a great help. I just ordered so many things and I’m so happy…now I feel much more prepared to continue on my card-making journey. Many thanks to you!
Hello, I have been making cards for a very long time already but, you always inspire me. I love to watch your videos. Many people will find this video very inspiring and informational. Thank you for the share and take care.
Love this video! I started watching you for your cricut tips, and then just fell into card making being inspired by you! It really is so therapeutic and people LOVE a handmade card!! And I love the pun-ny sentiments the best! 💞
You are the reason I started card making! This video is perfect! I love your style! I have finally completed my Concord and 9th ink collection! Thank you for taking time to make videos!
Woo Hooo - Thanks for sharing this tutorial - I was able to show it to a friend who is interested in getting started. I guided her to your channel. As always, thanks for sharing your time and talent. Continue to be blessed as you are a blessing to others. 🌸
Hi Bethany, I found your channel recently & subscribed! Your new room is just beautiful! I started paper crafting over 20 years ago. I went to a party and got hooked! I was recently engaged, so I bought all the supplies & made our wedding invitations & almost everything that required paper for our wedding. It’s such a fun hobby. This video is wonderful, you did a great job. Now, I need a Misti 😊
Nice Reccomendations. I have been wanting to get into card making . I used to have a little mini manual die cutting machine but I don't know where it disappeared to . That little tiny one you have is adorable . That card turned out so cute .
Thank you for all the recommendations for a card beginner, I’m definitely looking into buying everything so I can spruce up my card making. Card turned out adorable. Thank you for another amazing video 🖤
I LOVE all of your tutorials SO MUCH! I have officially gone down the rabbit hole! Hope to maybe see some of the Lawn & Fawn Christmas sets (Christmas Dreams &/or Beachy Christmas). Would love to see what you would do with them! 😊. Thank you for sharing all of your tips & tricks!
Love love love this video! Perfect for beginners wish you had this out a few months ago as I am still new to card making. Thank you for doing this video💕. Love your channel and I am always checking your videos for inspiration😊
Bethany, I went to your supplies in the show notes. I had some difficulty opening some of the links and a couple others are out of stock, and Amazon is unsure if/when they will become available again. You have such wonderful supplies. I hope things become available again soon.
A very useful beginner friendly video. It might seem an obvious thing to say, if you know, but it might have been useful for people just starting to fall down the card making rabbit hole, to know that there is a right and a wrong way up to place the dies :). Just a thought.
Hello Bethany! I just discovered you today & what a perfect video to begin with! I’ve been stamping & diecutting for about 38 years, but I went a different direction with Sizzix machines & Tim Holtz stamps, dies & inks! I didn’t actually realize what I was missing! (Don’t get me wrong, I love all of that!) but I never wanted to use markers. Now I do! The alcohol markers look so fun & fairly easy to work with! While on Amazon I saw that they also make sets of water soluble glitter markers. Can those be applied over the spectrum noir alcohol markers? I also never got a stamp positioner, so I have subscribed because I realize there’s a whole lot that I need some basic instruction on! I guess sometimes an old dog can learn some new tricks! Thank you so much, you’re a breath of fresh air in my craft room! Erica❤ Oh, they’re called Sparkle Pens!❤
I'd suggest an Anna Griffin Empress over the Gemini Jr. I have both and the Empress is easier to use, quieter and sturdier. I've had mine since 2018 with no issues at all.
I LAAAAVE this video! Things are in my Amazon cart waiting for those gift cards to roll in. Thank you! Just curious what do you do for envelopes? I had a coupon for our craft store and didn’t know what to use it on so I got a We R envelope maker but never used it. But wondering if you make your envelopes or buy the size you need?
You can’t use dies, it isn’t a die cutting machine. But you can make cards with the cricut by cutting out other shapes and letters! The machines mentioned are entirely different than the cricut. ;)
I'm not sure if it's still available, but I found a we r memory keepers precision press on Amazon a few years ago. A little smaller, but like half the price!
I do not know what you mean, by linked below. I have watched this video twice. I can not find anything in any comments. I have wasted so much time. I'm fairly new to card making and hate trying different glues, etc trying to find the best. 😂 please 😢
Go back up below the video, it has the title. Click on more and it will bring a drop box down. There you will find the links to products mentioned, supplies used. I hope that helps.
I absolutely loved this tutorial. The supplies you recommended were just what I needed since I’m new to card making. The information was also helpful for my scrapbooking. You’re amazing. I can’t wait for your next video.

I needed this. Great step by step introduction to card making. Thanks

I just buy A2 envelopes, or make them with my envelope maker...which I have a tutorial for!
What glue do you like to use?
My favorite is linked below ;)
What kind of envelopes do you use for your cards?
For die cutting, can a cricut maker be used for card making instead of the 3 machines mentioned?
You can’t use dies, it isn’t a die cutting machine. But you can make cards with the cricut by cutting out other shapes and letters! The machines mentioned are entirely different than the cricut. ;)
Did you buy envelopes to put the cards in? I might have missed it in another video. Thank you :)
A lot of your cards have been appropriate for due drops 💕 at least a good majority.
I’m new to stamping. Is there an alternative to the Misti if I’m not ready to spend the money on the Mist?
I'm not sure if it's still available, but I found a we r memory keepers precision press on Amazon a few years ago. A little smaller, but like half the price!
You can also just start with an acrylic block to practice your stamping and see if you like it.
Hi
How did you decorate your pink gemini?
I used printable vinyl and cut it out with my cricut! :)
do you make your envelopes OR purchase them? IF you make them, what paper source do you use?
I’m sorry if you’ve already shared this info, but when you pat your stamps to clean them, what are you patting them with?
She used a baby wipe
@@getcraftay, thank you.

Do you say pounds for the weight of the card/paper as I go by GSM
The weight is referred to the cardstock
