I heard the album the second day it was out - a classmate from school told me his older brother bought the album and invited a few of us over to hear it for the first time - its not like today - where you could hear it before its release - so i did not know what to expect -- i was literally mesmerized by each song as the album played and i found myself being drawn closer and closer to the speaker of the record player - the sounds were so rich, so full, cinematic in scope - it was breath taking from the very first listen - i have never forgotten how i felt when i heard it that day for the first time. Amazing how i forgot most of my life's experiences - but a handful still resonate with me and this was one of them. Long live THE BEATLES !
Cool, I remember when Zeppelin’s “Physical Graffiti” came out in ‘75, my friends, and I ran home after school to hear it in its entirety on K94 fm in Virginia Bch. Remember when they played uninterrupted albums on fm? Anyway…Great story.

I would have love to walk across the world's most FAMOUS street of all time.before I pass on,I would love to do that. That's definitely going to be on my bucket list.
On May 23, 2024 at 1:25 pm I had flown from Chicago to Manchester, took a train to London, checked into my hotel 1.5 miles away from Abbey Road, and at 1:25 pm got my picture. I'm 72 yrs old and made this journey my only bucket list item. Saved for a year out of social security money and finally made it. You can, too. Make a plan, stick to it and you'll be there. It was the most thrilling thing I had done since childhood. You will not regret it.
My husband and I were there in '96. We also were able to walk right into the studio! What a thrill Then a secretary very politely said we had to leave,. She gave me a magic marker to leave a message on the wall. I still have it. Plus many pics and great memories of Abbey Road +the zebra crossing. It was so accessible back then. A cabbie even stopped and took our picture crossing. What a blast!
@@lisaparsons4124I was in there in August, they did two weekends where it was opened in the evenings and two researchers gave a presentation on the history. In Studio 2.
A lot of people tend to forget that Abbey Road studios was originally named EMI Studios, they changed their name to Abbey Road studios after the album was released :)
It is my dream to someday visit London and Liverpool to see the Beatles related sites. I don’t know if it will ever happen, so this video is the next best thing to visiting the crosswalk. Thanks for posting!
I did the Liverpool Beatles tour thing a few years ago, it really was Very Very good, get the bus tour around many sites then end up in the Cavern for some live music .. was great really
if you go make sure its August Bank Holiday weekend. Matthew Street is crammed with live bands and a great atmosphere. Just be aware that the Cavern has been rebuilt and is not the original one.
I was just there this past March 2022. It was not busy because tourist season had not started. We waited until a few people crossed and took pictures and then our guide took a picture of us crossing. Very exciting since I am such a huge Beatles fan. We also went to the Abby Studios Beatles shop. But the best Beatles shop is in London on Baker St. I bought a bunch of nice souvenirs there. Also went to the train station were they filmed A Hard Days Night. That was a very special day.
I started work in 1969 round the corner in hall Road so I used to cross the crossing everyday. I never knew about the studio being there, and I love The Beatles!! Thank yuou so much.🤗❤
In 1946, there was a 6 ft wall between the In and Out gateways of the studios, and the bus stop was situated between two. My mother used to drag me onto the 53 or 153 bus, aided my a friendly commissionaire employed by studios, to take me to kindergarten school in Boundary Road. I don’t think there was a zebra crossing in those days, maybe just a studied crossing? and of course before the Beatles and graffiti!
I've walked Abbey rd twice, one in early 2000s and then In 2017 with my wife and 2 sons. All the way from wee New Zealand . Love it, love standing outside the studio and the shop is great too
This was great, you can certainly see the changes through the prism of time, much of the trees that seem so prominent on the Abbey Road album have since been taken down, thanks so much for the tour guide..
Just returned from a business trip to London (October of '22) and asked my cab driver to stop off at Abbey Road on the way to Heathrow. He warned me in advance that the street was now blocked off to vehicular traffic, but that he could stop just before the barrier and I could walk past the building to get a souvenir snap. Driver kindly offered to take a photo of me in the cross-walk (where folks were already lined up to take turns at 10 a.m.) but I told him just seeing the building was all the pilgrimage necessary. Was it worth it to run up the meter on the cab for an extra ten minutes? You bet it was!! A must for a Beatle fan, if you are in London.
Its amazing how unassuming it all is you can walk by the studio every day of your life and never even notice it and the crossing is just another crossing.

Was actually there summer of 2019 and surprisingly, most of the north of London like the Zoo...Abbey Road...roundabout next to it...all look very much as they did summer of 1969 when the famous pics were taken. You were lucky, I was there before pandemic and it is crazy, there are so many people standing on the sidewalks waiting and trying to cross and take a picture and it is right on a big intersection which, at least me, did not know it existed. I always thought it was a small street in between buildings. So many people cross that they have to re-paint the crossing several times a year. Nice!

Did it in March ‘84. We planned to take a tour of the studio that day, but we’re informed that tours were canceled, as Duran Duran were recording. There was no shop back then, however the security guy gave me about 7 pages of Abbey Road stationary. I gave several away to friends, but still have two sheets stuffed in my Beatles Anthology book. By the way, that is one busy intersection. Be careful if you ever make a pilgrimage there. I became a Beatles fan in ‘68, when I was 6.
I was lucky enough to attend an "openday" at the Studios in the 1980's before they had some work done internally. Actually sat in the studios The Beatles used.
Bought the album when I was 14, half a century ago. Though a Londoner, have never been there so the video leading up to the Actual Crossing was enlightening... Signs of the times 1969: VW beetle, park on the kerb, no unsightly yellow lines or zig-zags. More trees. Nowadays: graffiti, vans everywhere, constant traffic, selfie-sticks. Always, the Crossing and Abbey Road. 👣

...also I remember in the eighties people from all over Europe would drive there VW beetles to England and drive to Abbey road just to park it where the one on the album is parked!!

Sorry to burst everyone's bubble but that isn't the same crossing that they walked across in 1969. It was moved/repainted in the early 80s as part of Traffic Maintenance work. The original zebra crossing was outside no.3 Abbey Road,so for a truly authentic Beatles experience might I suggest dodging the traffic outside there!
I'm amazed at the number of people in the comments saying the same thing, when it's obvious by comparing photos that the crossing has not moved. Certainly it's been repainted many times, so it might have shifted by a few inches back and forth, but it's still where it was in 1969. I can point you to a book with a photo of the crossing taken in 1989 from the same vantage point as the album cover that clearly shows it's where it was then and where it is today.
There is a well-known guy, Richard Porter, who has been a tour guide there for years and recently made a video, explaining that the crosswalk is in the same place. I don't know and it seems secondary to me.
I must have crossed on those zebras a million times, and another million cursed the tourists when driving, I used to live 10 minutes walk from it. God knows how many licks of paint on those walls over the years, actually it looked quite clean on the footage. To get the perfect angle/point of view for the iconic picture you have to step almost in the middle of the road, the original was taken extremely early in the morning on a long British summer day. The replica picture contest was definitely won by Red Hot Chilli Peppers, all bare naked just wearing a white sock over their bits.
We *JUST got back from London and this was a mistake see. We went twice. My wife didn’t see the point. I get it. The art museum. 😂. We did this exact walk. This is amazing! Love the background music too. Start recording these in Vision Pro. The iPhone 15 Pro records it. It will be to the viewer like they are there! Yes, brand new and in its infancy. Start now. In a few years, you’ll have an awesome library. 😊
It’s a crosswalk. Just like any other. The only thing are trying to live out there fantasy of being as close as they can to the guys. What ever makes them happy.
Not a crossing. THE crossing. A symbol of modern popular culture. The Beatles leave their legendary recording studio, will not return for another record and at the same time end the spectacular 1960s. Also, the crosswalk cover contains "evidence" of the "Paul is dead" legend. A conspiracy theory about which people still make long TH-cam videos today... I interpret the walk, that millions of people have reenacted over the past few decades, as a kind of note of thanks for the "Fab Four" and their work. In addition, it seems to be great fun for many, to position themselves on the crossing, preferably in a row of four. And not a few make their own versions, show a stunt, walk particularly conspicuously, lie down, jump, whatever. One also sometimes see people, who just got married or people in special clothes. All of this has somehow developed into its own art form, which can be very entertaining.
I've " walked" it a couple of times now ,it just feels weird that your walking on exectly the same steps as four of the most famous people of all time.
I live in a Street in Hamburg wich the Beatles must have crossed hundreds of times in real life every evening on the way to their gigs when they were unknown.
No one but the Beatles that could make a simple walk across a street so Historic, thank you for the video

PaulMcCartney had a house round the back of the studio on the next road along so must be big bucks!
@@GimbalWalkTV Wow! Didn't know that. Thanks!
@@GimbalWalkTV I tell you what would be cool, that photo of them sitting on those entryway steps. Same steps in video.
That's a myth isn't it?
No Beetle parked there, but I did see a Golf pass by. 🙂
Yeah 🤣🤣
What's that on the right? Is it a row of townhouses?
It is
The street seems so much more narrow on the album. The right side facing toward the studio also looks vastly different
Very true!
I was there in 2017, it was a sentimental Journey. But nothing else.
Yeh! Good that you went though!
Very cool!
Nice beautiful day!
Definitely!
I will have a look at that - thank youi!
I would imagine its much like crossing any other crosswalk? to verify I went down to the strip and crossed a few, yup, same same
It’s a crosswalk. Just like any other. The only thing are trying to live out there fantasy of being as close as they can to the guys. What ever makes them happy.
It’s ok to have fun in life 👍
Not a crossing.
HELLO HERE FROM BRASIL NICE VIDEO 😎🙏🇧🇷
Thank you 🙏
What a difference from the original pic of the beatles, there were more trees. And that building wasn't there.
Excelent video
Thank you!
is the building abandoned? gate looks filthy.
No still in use!
I've " walked" it a couple of times now ,it just feels weird that your walking on exectly the same steps as four of the most famous people of all time.
I live in a Street in Hamburg wich the Beatles must have crossed hundreds of times in real life every evening on the way to their gigs when they were unknown.
Nice video! The music sux... ✌
Had to put music on as the mad wind ruined the sound recording
went here in the 70s theres something magical about it
