Scotty this just shows how you have always been the man! The way you teach says a lot about you. The patience, respect, intelligence, caring, teaching other lessons about life at the same time (wear that dirty helmet! haha). 4 years later you continue to contribute to this world and make it a better place. Keep it up man, much appreciated!
I want to thank Big Boy for inspiring me into keeping my BMX bike. I was going to sell my BMX bike and then my friend showed me your guys channel and seeing how big Big Boy was, told me that I'm not to big for my bike. That's how Big Boy inspired me, and same for u Scotty and thanks to u and huge thanks to Big Boy.
I tried to manual and fakie this past Sunday for almost 2.5 hrs. It didn’t go so well on either. I did, however, get more comfortable with my bike. I will try to manual again now that I’ve watched this.
Same, I am doing the right technique by getting low and back, arms straight etc. But my tire always drops or I loop out right away. Sometimes I do get it right and I can balance fora short while.
When Scotty gets better I would love for him to put up some more "how to" videos for those who are just learning to ride or need help with a specific trick. He's a good teacher. 🤓🤓🤓
My friend and I would practice manuals in parking lots. We would play a game of bike but called it Park or Lot and we would call out how man parking spots we would manual and if we would hop into a manual or out or both. It made better and had fun.
Scotty, you are a very gifted teacher and rider. You teach well, naturally, effectively, and positively. Keep going forward with your teaching gift. Im 39 yrs old and I think Ill get the manual down now!
Troy Lewis watched it in 2019 and re-watched it in covid lockdown April 2020. I think I’m sitting too low down / close to the rear tyre. Will adjust and try tomorrow.
Sanus180 after not riding a bike in 18 years i finally got one today. I have been trying this technique and need to adjust my height on the bike. It is not easy, but it is so much fun to ride again. Also, a huge problem I am facing is the the rear ends are much shorter than they used to be and I am looping out way more than I used to on my 90s and early 2000s bmx bikes.
@@AbsoluteyAmerican yes most rears are hovering around 13 even. I had an FBM that when slammed was a hair over that and it took some getting used to, but once you did it manualed effortlessly. It also had a slightly steeper headtube which helped drastically it nose manuals
More of these with diffrent tricks! I feel this is more helpful than just having a skilled dude show how to do something (not saying Big Boy ain't got no skills but you get the point :D) Keep doing good work!
I just want to say thank you Scotty, this is the best video on the internet when it comes to learning how to manual. I'm an old scrub noob and this video has helped me make more progress than anything else out there.
+Sgt Oif ArmyCombatveteran Lol same, I'm 33, never had a skate park where I live until a few years ago- sae these vids and thought screw it, I am riding again!!! Awesome \m/
Scotty is hands down my favorite Rider, he is amazing on a bike. I just found out about the channel about a month ago and i just wanted to say you guys are such a inspiration. Also seeing how far bigboy has come is really inspiring to see. Big Boy keep it up man your kicking ass. Scotty i just wanted to let you know you're a true role model man. I really look up to you and I know you will overcome all of this in no time! get better man.
Superb video, always entertaining and at 46 years old and getting back into BMX, I have just learned to manual after watching your tutorial. Thanks and best wishes to you both!
hi scotty! been enjoying your videos. rode bmx in the 80's, can't believe how far the tricks have advanced. I have a question, though. what's up with no brakes? I always thought that having front and back brakes were useful, esp for street. what's the advantage? im using your vids to get my bike handling skills up for my mountain biking. thanks, really enjoying the vids
The brakes aren't there because in many of the tricks that exist now, the brakes would get really tangled up. But you can have back brakes and do all these tricks, so I guess it's just to look cleaner, (to not have back brakes)
No, it is mainly to keep the bike lightweight, because having a freestyle bmx frame is very heavy because of how strong it is and then having brakes on restricts tricks where the bars spin or the frame spins (Same thing really) so you would need to have a gyro to allow the bars to be spun right around without the brakes getting tangled up. In the end, if you are riding park, as in ramps and bowls at a skatepark, you don't really need brakes, because if the skatepark is designed correctly, every time you build speed, there will be a ramp that you can use to lose speed and slow down. So many people just dont use brakes and they just scrape their shoes on the ground.
I go back on my previous statement, they don't have brakes because it gives it a cleaner look, and means less things to go wrong. Brakes barely weigh anything
Dude I’m binge watching every single video, I’m not a rider but I love watching these type of videos I found out about the channel recently and my first video was big boy in the future(present), I didn’t know who scotty was but man I’m definitely gonna miss seeing him, he’s so down to earth and so kind to his friends and everyone around him. Best vid on TH-cam imo. I was doing exactly what big boy was doing in the beginning of the video. Now, thanks to this vid, Ill finally be able to do it. Thanks!

I like how you sound genuinely pissed or frustrated with Big boy half the time, makes the antics all the more hilarious. Great videos, I've been hooked the last few weeks. Should be able to crack some real manuals tomorrow. Thanks! Hey when you can be arsed, could you make a tutorial on hop 360s?
oh man. I remember when I was learning. it took me a week before I swapped bikes. I went to my 26" slope style bike and I'd have to pull the front tire way up and stay super low about an inch from the top of the rear tire. longest manual I did was 2.2 miles all downhill. my friend used to challenge me and I over came him
Great video. You're a great motivator. I'm turning 44 next month and looking into getting an other freestyle bike. Gave up riding back in 1990. I ALWAYS wanted to learn to manual!!!!!!!
Watching this in 2017.. and at 3:28 when Scotty says "I'm gonna demonstrate the proper way..." and gets on the bike without hesitation it threw me for a loop.. I had to pause for a second and remind myself that this was before the accident. It's so strange to watch this now.. I'm really glad Scotty has made it as far as he has and I sincerely hope he keeps progressing every day until he can casually "demonstrate a proper manual" to Big Boy again.
Loved manuals when I used to ride. I do believe my longest was at Woodward down the hill during the manual contest. Good memories. Best way to challenge yourself is finding a huge parking lot and counting how many parking spots you can go.
ok...... i know how to wheelie a bike right...... so scotty says to use no brakes and use ur body weight....... so im a bit nervous cause im used to using the back brake but i i still try it. so im mountain bike right with family, and just came off a double diamond and i go to practice this trick right....... my front end of this bike was light as heel so it came up and flipped....... now when this happens its in slow mo to me and im looking at the back brake the whole time because he says to not use back brakes and im not using back brakes...... so im looking at it the whole time...... weirdly enough i landed on my left foot and broke my right lef in half..... see now if i was covering the back brakes this wouldn't of happened
