Were you going beyond your dogs point and walking back in hopes of ting the bird off from running?

Nice dog work. Love the videos. 2 questions. What video setup are you using? GoPro? And location is the other question. I hunt all over KS and that looks like N of I-70 and W of 183. Am I right?

Your videos are always very clear and fun to watch. Nice double. I have never hunted quail. What chokes would you use in an over under, and what size shot do you use in 20 gauge shells?

Thanks! Quail are one of my favorite birds to hunt. I use a Franchi Affinity 20ga with IC choke and 6 shot since I’m hunting pheasants also. Thanks for watching.

Some nice dog work. How have conditions been up there this year with the drought? Planning on making a few December and January trips from Texas this year.

Thanks! It’s about the same as it’s been the last few years. Be prepared to work for the birds and bring some good dogs.

How did you train your dogs? They’re great!

Thanks! I had them trained by Mark Pace and I continued what he started. Thanks for watching.

Great video! Do you offer guide services? Also, I wouldn't ask you to share your spots, but could you confirm if you're hunting on public or private land? I did a scouting trip and found that much of the WIHA land did not look promising.

Thanks! It’s all WIHA. I don’t have any connections for private. Lots of miles walking and driving and some worn out dogs. I’m not a guide, just a guy out walking around trying to keep up with his dogs. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for the reply! If you would ever be open to it, I'd be willing to compensate you if you'd be open to letting me run alongside.@@TRPLCCOOP

Is it worth going to Kansas? I understand the pheasant numbers are in very bad shape.

It’s about the same as it’s been the last few years. Talking to some of the farmers, they had 3 and 4 inch rains followed by some hail during the nesting seasons so there’s good cover and lots of feed but about the same amount of birds. There’s still birds but plan on doing 10-12+ miles of walking a day and driving around 100+. I wouldn’t bother without good dogs.

It’s very isolated. I found a field in the Smokey hills region that at dusk the night before opener I counted well over 50 straight roosters just the ones I saw. I hunted the field two times and ran into an absolute boat load of all roosters. Zero hens. But they all acted as if they had been hunted for three weeks straight and were mostly getting up 60-80 yards out . I hunt usually by myself and dog or my dad and both our dogs and they were thick as hell but in absolute insane thick cover. There is a ton of birds out there but just super isolated. The last day in the middle of the afternoon I knocked down 4 and. Found two. The cover was 6-10 foot thick and dry as hell which gave the dog/s problems finding them. If I had 10 or more people with me it would have been like a game farm the roosters were everywhere. Find the thickest cover you can near corn/miloh and or water and that’s where they are at. The whole birds aren’t there thing is BS. They are there but not spread out. Stick to north central and south central/central Kansas and you’ll find them. Doesn’t need to be a huge field. Late season is better. Go out on the coldest windiest day preferably a snow storm bellow 20 degrees and you can do a bunch of quick heavy cover hunts and I gauruntee you find birds in every spot primarily on road corners with hay bales and cedar trees. In and out.
