if your son is a DM you NEED to get him to run you at least a single session on this. Either with some friends of yours or experiences players of his. After all the work this fantastic table took you deserve to get a decent taste of DnD for yourself.
In any case, this is basically the ultimate gaming table. The only addition I would include personally is a distributed sound system throughout the table (maybe one small speaker per desk) which would allow music to be played by the DM, ambient music being one of the best things you can add to a game in my honest opinion. they could be connected to the same circuit as the power outlets and connect to the laptop via wireless. However, the laptop is still fully capable of playing sound, so this is basically the perfect gaming table so congratulations! Honestly, you could make an absolute killing selling these, or at the very least make a tidy sum selling the design to an interested manufacturer (some assembly required obviously)

This is one of the better thought out tables I have seen online. Seeing the how to videos would help a woodwork out tremendously
Looks good! I've not been one for the built in screen but I like the steps you took to keep it safe from abuse. I was blown away when you expended the table! There must have have been a long list of scrapped ideas before you figured out that gem.

Amazing engineering. As with any recessed gaming table, it looks extremely uncomfortable to have to reach so far down to move your minis but I understand that it‘s necessary so that it can be covered. Again, great engineering, your son is a very fortunate man to have a caring dad like you.
I just stumbled on this video. My story is very similar. I never got into D&D until my son and his friends started playing. now my wife and I play along with all of our kids. I would love to see more on how you built this table. You have many ideas that are very interesting. Thanks for sharing.

As someone who has vigrusly researched the Table Top Gaming space as I am making my own game.... Honestly that is the ultimate TT gaming table and for most TT gamers it's perfect and an upgrade as most are used to Dining and exhibit tables... I would make mine in a U shape to allow for more the 8 players in TTRPGs and massive battles in TTwargames. Also great video telling it's story!
Well done! Very resourceful. The biggest concern for me is the expense of the project so I am going to avoid hardwood. Not sure if it will work. The expandability with the Aluminum square tubing is really neat. I hope it worked out for you. Would be nice to see a follow up video talking about how well it worked out for you, pros and cons sort of thing. Thank you for presenting this on TH-cam.
Sir I must say...outstanding. I have been wanting to build a sliding table and couldn't come up with a good way of doing it. I play several games and some only require a 3x3 or 3x6 or a 4x6. This could be the perfect solution. I sure hope that you do end up posting the plans and or the build video. Your son is very lucky to have such a great craftsman as a father and one that also supports his sons gaming habit. Well done.

WAIT??? You've never heard of D&D or Dungeons and Dragons until your kid started playing? You're older than I am. You would have lived through "The Satanic Panic" of the mid 1980's, as I have. I had started playing a little bit before this, and I remember this being all over the news.

Absolutely awesome, from the resesed dm station, to the pop up insert leaf, the add on custom rails, can't wait for the build video, I hope you don't mind but I'm coping it, lol, I won't sell it, but you should, that's $2.5k easy, probably more, I want to see material cost and time to complete, I don't imagine you have blueprints? if you can provide at least material used (1/2, 3/4, plywood, steel rails, etc) and estimated cost would be great in the build video. I'm excited!! A reaction video is a great idea also. Your son is lucky!!!

Holy wow! This is the exact kind of build I was looking for! Have you gotten around to editing together the footage yet? I'd love to watch how this was built and what kind of challenges you experienced. Additionally, now that it's been a few months since you completed this build, is there anything about this table that you or your son wish you would've done differently? I definitely need to see a how to build on this. I can figure out a lot of this on my own, but some of these things I have no idea how to do, like making the rail for cupholders, or making it extendable with an add-on leaf.
I'd even be happy with just some plans, which I could figure out on my own. Please let me know if this is possible.

This is a great table! Thanks!! I have designed a modified version, but how did you connect the led lighting across the extendable leaf? Thanks again for the great design.
Hi Ross. Would love to see your version! I did not add the LEDs across the leaf. They are just down each side. Only a single outlet is on the extension. If you have some pictures to share of your table email them to askdiymark "AT" gmail.
