The burr set on this grinder has 10 main settings directly on the burr cage in addition to the 60 on the knob. Going finer on the cage will give you more range to dial in on the knob.
Hello . It is a very useful video. Are u using simple or pressurised filter on the first machine? I think now they give both filters with bambino. Will the 54 mm porte filter can go on the grinder ? The little metal container u have look cool . Does it have a name or reference? Thanks a lot I watched a lot of video but this was one of the most useful
Wow thanks for making this video. I recently got mine but was not getting the best results. It's like you did all the testing for me! Lol very helpful.😮👍 (few beans saved😊😊)
You are very welcome! But I would recommend going through this process to fine tune the beans that you are using. Different beans or even the same bean from different roasters might yield slightly different results. Your recipe and how hard you tamp will also affect this. But I am happy to give a bit of guideline at least =] Feel free to let me know if you have any questions.
For your double wall test, I am thinking maybe she will need a coarser grind since her machine will most likely have a higher bar pressure since it only came with pressurized portafilters while your machine came with both and is designed to support 9 bars.
i grind with mine set to 5, with the OEM setting for the distance between the burs. you can "calibrate" the timer with a set of scales. so once you have it dialed in, you can just press the button, and get 18.0 grams just about every time.
Pro tip! Have a mini spray bottle of water to lightly sprits the beans before you grind them. You get a more consistent return rate on your grind amount
Yes, this I can actually answer. I recommended my friend to get the unpressurized basket and it works fine, just got to dial the grind size don a little.
Thank-you for a great review. Very in depth and very useful..I have a Breville infuser expresso machine. Its basiclly the same machine your using there without the built in grinder. I have been looking for a decent but affordable grinder for months and really couldn't make a decision. Because your video was using basiclly the same machine I have and the grinder that I have been considering I was able to make my decision. Thank-you for a great review !
It's actually not a tamper, it's a distributor. Essentially what it does is to even out the grounds, you will still need to tamp after that. Hope this helped =]
I discovered that after changing my grind settings from espresso to aeropress, despite programming, it did not save the previous settings when I switched back to espresso. Surely it is ‘smart’ enough to save multiple programmes? Any idea about this?
Please update again after daily use. Some lasted 3 months and some says 6 months. And mostly 18 months maxed with weekly maintenance and some modification to the impeller.
Thanks for commenting. My friend, who actually lives very close by, uses this grinder on a daily basis. So far it's without a hitch, she have ground various beans through it and mostly on espresso setting. However it has just been 3 months so I can't comment on the performance down the line just yet. But I have also read comments out there on the longevity of the unit. I will be sure to update if anything comes up.
Hi, my smart grinder pro suddenly dropped from the usual 14 to 6 settings. Does this means the upper burr assembly has been worn out? Does anyone can confirm this?
I had one of these for 10 months, then returned it as not fit for purpose to Amazon, where I bought it. Sage (Breville) agreed to replace it for me, but I declined as I didnt want to be in the same position in another year. The problem is that the impeller wears out and is not available as a spare part. some people are 3d printing their own, but this is not really a solution.
A Regular person who fills the hopper with 1 lb of beans won’t care that it’s losing 3 grams. I don’t think it’s designed for single dosing. Grind 19 grams into the portafilter and be done with it. I’ve never had that problem tbf
hi guys im struggling to get slow extraction for non pressurized espresso. i get no creama and the shots are fast fast even on setting 1. i tried changing the settings in the upper burr and it doesnt make any difference.
@@Christusolus I’ve tried 18g no difference. I recently managed to get it right by using darker beans and just regular lavazza rossa. So my issue is why I can’t extract medium/ light roasted
@@Christusolus oh good question I didn’t know temperature affects the extraction I thought just flavour. So I’m using delonghi dedica and I don’t think I’m getting the best temperature from it. I’ve tried turning on froth mode briefly then go back to brewing mode to heat up the machine more and it didn’t make a difference.
Nice review of the grinder as far as I watched, but the volume on that perpetual beat should be half the volume currently set...it is as loud or louder than your voice, which is really distracting...
@@XICups the Specialita is great! After getting this I get way less issues with channeling. Shots became more consistent. :D makes the puck prepping more foolproof.
You did not show how to use the programming and timed extraction, for the folks not interested in single dosing. Too much time playing around with double wall cups. The Bambino will take a single wall cup, why not use that?
it may be for those particular beans. I haven't had to use a setting finer than 12 before with my smart grinder pro and bambino plus set up with the single wall basket. But man, that white version looks so clean and pretty! I have the default stainless, which looks sleek of course, but still the white one looks more special!
Yeah, it may very well be. As a matter of fact, just tamping harder or using more beans will change the output. That's why it's important to dial in the setting according to your habits when you get a new machine or new beans. But, yes the white color is so nice to look at.
Thanks for commenting. But if you watch the part where I dialed in the grinder, I did measure every dose in and out, the difference would be the retention.
1. an experienced user should know: you do NOT go by the brew time but by the pressure. That is why Breville equipped the machine with a pressure dial gage, and not with a stop watch! 2. different beans cause different results, meaning with the exact same settings (amount + grain size), the pressure can vary significantly, thus fine tuning may be required when switching beans. 3. measuring the weight of the beans before and after grinding is irrelevant. If you want to become scientific, and measure a decimal after the period, then first conduct a gage study to understand gaging variation.
Never set the burrs on steady grinder. It must be in action!!! And never test the shot immediately after change the grind size. You have to loose few grams.
The burr set on this grinder has 10 main settings directly on the burr cage in addition to the 60 on the knob. Going finer on the cage will give you more range to dial in on the knob.
Had to adjust the top burr to 8 now. Even in 1 sometimes my beans are still out of dial. So i zeroed mine to 8
Thanks for the in-depth review. It definitely helped me make up my mind and ended up getting a Bambino + Smart Grinder Pro as my setup
Exactly, its cheap, its good. You get exact dose without weighing grams all the time. You can save time for WDT, steaming milk, latte art etc.

Great review and probably the only review that I came across that highlights the retention rate of the grinder. Well done!
i use 13.8 grind time and grind size 8, i find these setting give me a good result with nice creama.

There is still quite a bit of liquid coming out of the portafilter when you stopped the machine. Shouldn't it slow to a drip before you shut it off?

How difficult is it to keep the white clean? I want that colour but I'm worried about how it will look with a day to day use...
Great video. I loved seeing you work through figuring out the grind settings
I usually accept between 18.0-18.5g. The impact on brew ratio is not really great
Great help. Ordered one yesterday. This will take a lot of the guess work out.
Thanks! 👍🏻
Can you please update us if it still working good for esspresso unpressurized basket

so i ordered one and have a dedica. bit confused on what setting to use for what
i use 7g single and 14g double for grounds. what to do for this
Hi XiCups! I use a dual wall double shot as well and just tested it with grind 8 and it came out very smooth! Thanks for your video
I set mine at 8 for 21 seconds for bottomless portafilter & it came out 18grs every time. However, the taste is not consistent….
If you did a deep cleaning, you will see a retention of about 3G for the first grind
Sounds about right based on the experience.

No problem after 7 years. Daily approx. 5 shots. Maybe little less sharp, then the new one.
No problem for me after 8yrs. Daily use.
Thank you for the nice video, but the background music is very loud and covering your voice sometimes 👍
I still have no idea where to find that white grinder. It seems impossible to find but thanks for the video!
