Heard this often in the last 6 months, however underhanded. As an older worker, the prospective employer has the gall to bitch about how young people are not trained and unrealistic in their expected wages. I'm very qualified, yet, they won't hire me because of age; not asking for insurance, etc, as I already have that. Finally, this morning, I was hired at a relatively fair wage. I've been subject to numerous scams, so, will see.

They will always blame the employees too. They refuse to admit that if you have a 70 bullet point requirement set paying a Walmart wage will never get filled. In the same way that cutting all the training programs in a niche field where no one is going to be able to acquire those desired skills means no filled positions.
They always fail to understand that the job market is a market and they have to offer what is going to fit the market not whatever random moonshot crap they can come up with.
It is what it is but eventually even watching the dumpster fire gets boring, and you wish they would just get with reality.

@@scwirpeo Very true, employers dont want to waste time training new employees that have little to no experience. They seem to want someone with 30+ years experience but in their 20s. @@bobbyggezs2898that’s where I’m at too. Growing up I was told to go into tech. So my main career is game art and my fallback is IT networking. But guess what? Neither of those fields are actually hiring for a livable wage in cities they require a work-on-site role. It’s pretty crazy how 95% of tech jobs can be done remotely, yet employers require in office work while not paying a living wage.
It seems a trades job is the only thing that will actually pay these days, and even those are insanely underpaying. My husband is a mechanic and back of shop manager. He’s seeing job postings looking for fully certified 10+ year mechanics paying $16/hr 😂! That’s less than what McDonald’s pays in the area!
Every job seeker should start reporting job postings that are below livable wage when they require in-person work settings.

I have been looking since last fall. I have noticed a gradual decline overall in salaries offered for the position I'm applying for. This is a direct result of the oversupply of labor and lack of jobs in the current market. If you're, like me, in the unfortunate position of looking for work, you're going to have to settle for what's available until the market recovers - and then move on when the opportunities are there.
My own basic strategy has been to earn about average pay while delivering above average performance, so as to be viewed as economical enough to not be worth replacing. Worked well for several decades. It does not immunize you from losing work due to a company acquisition and your position becoming redundant.

If employers are saying this, it's a lie. The only thing they care about it getting the maximum out of you for as little as possible. They want you to train yourself for them just to pay you less than market rate. The market rate for most employers is less than the cost of rent and food. Nobody is worth so little. They don't even invest in their employees at all.

    • @whatevergoesforme5129
      @whatevergoesforme5129 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

Though it is true that employers don't invest in their employees anymore, it also goes the other way around. I have seen medium-scale companies train their employees only to see those employees leave them after a year or two after training them. No one is loyal on both sides anymore compared to in the past when employees were loyal to their companies and in turn companies rewarded loyalty.
EDIT: I am stating an observation to present a more balanced view of the employment process since it is what it is now and we will never go back to the good old days of the boomers.

@@Rustyknife1 Yes, I know why those employees had left and obviously after getting trained, they would get more MONEY. It's not rocket science.
That is why demonizing employers (and some are indeed abusive) is sometimes misplaced because employees are not loyal either. It is all about the MONEY. Employers and employees are BOTH concerned about MONEY. And until everyone accepts that as the truth, both sides will keep accusing the other side as being unfair when it just boils down to basic human flaw.
Both sides see the other as the "enemy" while in the past, the situation was more about one being like a family, especially for the small to medium-scale businesses.
You think only employers are greedy and self-serving? Try to create your own business, even a very small one, and see how that experience will open your eyes.
And, yes, I've done what you have done as well. My mom told me I was a rolling stone that gathered no moss.
I was just stating the truth about how people keep demanding to be trained nowadays and get mad when employers hire those with experience and training already, and yet the sad truth is employers also know what that means for them so with the kind of economy we have now, can you really blame them?
As you said, you are not going to be loyal so why would they train you if you are a newbie, for example? They'd rather get someone like you (now) who already got the training and experience. And I know this as an old GenXer.

    • @whatevergoesforme5129
      @whatevergoesforme5129 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

@@keithparker1346 Again, it is what it is. Both sides have their issues with money. You guys whine about companies not willing to train while companies whine about workers they trained who will leave them after a year. So both sides just need to deal with this reality.
Companies nowadays know that even if they pay more, there will be other companies willing to pirate and offer a higher price so why bother when the economy now gives them more applicants than ever before. So both sides shit each other since as many of you guys said, loyalty is no longer part of the relationship unlike in the past.
All of you guys are thinking of the big crony corporations but forget that there are small and medium businesses.
That is why now, I just work for myself as a freelancer and I don't need to hire nor apply for a fulltime job. It is also tough since I need to sell myself over and over again to people who may want my services, but I don't need to get angry at a company for abusing me nor get angry at clockwatching employees who may also steal from me.

@luke5100 Even with the case of personal responsibility, it shouldn't be hard to find part time minimum wage work, not everybody in the job market is looking for a skilled position, kids and teens are resorting to crime because fast food places won't hire them anymore. All the fast food retail places are filled with people that clearly don't belong there but 55 year old Nancy had the right buzzwords on her resume and now she's the cashier at Wendy's.
My solution is that if people applied locally, like how we used to and jobs were honest with hiring process none of these excuses wouldn't matter unless it really did come down to personal responsibility.

Since the wave of layoffs started a few years ago, companies have become increasingly picky, looking for a unicorn that knows it all and wants to pay way below the market value. Also, they expect candidates to put up with the BS of 4, 5, or even 6 rounds of interviews, where companies seem to look for reasons to reject you instead of hiring you. A simple, menial mistake could mean that you are out of the process, while companies can have any number of red flags, yet they expect candidates to jump through all these hoops.

Paid me just barely more than a burger flipper at McDonald's, yet they brought in an H1B visa worker from india to work with me and I found out they were paying him almost DOUBLE what they were paying me! If I become part time, the development will take twice as long, because they can't train other people to understand my thought processes and expertise for the price they are willing to pay. Employers say there is a "Lack of qualified candidates"
    - This after several major companies have laid off tech talent, and the talent market is saturated. The reality is that companies are being picky, not that there is a lack of qualified candidates. That's fine, the pendulum swings the other way too, so companies who didn't take care of candidates can expect to get ignored by the market when they need talent. They have been hiring non-engineers to engineering positions. In the medical field even the worst workers can still get a job because of shortages of professionals. In many places sign on bonuses are necessary just to get nurses to apply. In some fields there truly is a lack of qualified candidates. In others fields there is a glut of qualified candidates. The gist was that while it's starting to recover this year (just barely starting right now, mind you), we're looking at a tough 2024 and more likely won't see a more noticeable different upwards until some time in 2025. A lot of this stems from supposed over hiring of remote positions during covid, every company thinking they'd need more staff and then realizing they were still relatively efficient and likely didn't need that many, spreading resources thinner. It's disgusting to think we are going to trust these massive vehicles to a computer. Consumers should boycott any company willing to put the public at risk. Planes can taxi take off fly and land by computer but we refuse to trust them. Same thing.

Thanks for sharing! The fact that you both had a mutual agreement and understand of the situation shows professionalism. Also, the end result, you both were able to help each other was a positive outcome

I have an extremely solid job, but I don't enjoy the area I work in. I've been looking for an area more aligned for my interests. I applied for a job which involved assessment for core competencies based on long answer form questions. I was assessed to pass onto the next round of applicants- only to have a follow up email that said that this Hybrid job was now in person and "non-negotiable" in terms of being able to be on site daily. You would also have to move to the city within the next month, along with several other "non-negotiables" that weren't even in the job listing. As I couldn't break a lease in a month, I had to reject it despite meeting its initial qualification assessments. Got an email this morning now stating I "didn't meet the qualifications" based on my answers to the core competency questions, not due to the fact that they shifted their assessment goalposts. 🙄 It's clownish even for those currently employed.

Trucker here, I'm noticing that in white collar fields it's not that employers can't find qualified applicants like they claim, it's that they're simply asking way too much, right out of the gate they want you to have an insane amount of experience yet work for a meager wage, and those people just don't exist. We have a similar thing here in this industry with the auto insurance companies that trucking fleets are required to use. I honestly thing if employers keep this up then they need to start being regulated on what they can ask for out of an "entry level" position.

That story you started your video with was not at all an example of an employer being overly picky. The person they wanted was out there and they found and hired that person.
What frustrates and bothers me are the unicorn hunters. The ones looking for 10 years experience in ChatGPT (When was that released again?) or a SAS programmer willing to work for $25/hour.
The unicorn hunting recruiters remind me of the really average guys who say they will only date 25YO swimsuit models with PhDs. The woman of your dreams has a lot of choices. It’s possible she’ll pick you but not likely.

It doesn't matter. These corporate execs and middle managers have so much hubris they will lay off who they want to lay off regardless of how "differentiated" that person's skill set is. They will find someone else to overburden with that employee's workload regardless or not whether the replacement can handle it. Quality of the product may decrease, but it won't matter to the business because the executives still get their stock options and the customers have no other alternatives.

"There is a lack of qualified candidates" really means "That we are not prepared to pay the market rate, or more, to get the candidate that we need"! It's simple economics of supply and demand to which the Labor market is neither immune nor any different whatsoever.

I refuse to massage anyone's ego including employers. When I do make LinkedIn posts I generally tend to post about the progress of my project that I would be working on or any courses that I completed.

When they say QUALIFIED, they mean:
    . Masters Degrees
    . 5 Years Experience
    . Paying $15.00 per hour.
Doesn't take an economist to figure this one out. Very simple.
It's their own damn fault they can't find anyone, nobody is to blame but them. Period. I have NO sympathy for them, NONE.

Well, truth be told, any employee no matter the skill level is replaceable. When an employers feel that they don't want a certain employee despite the skill set that will be hard to replace, they can just hire a candidate that they can train for the shortest time possible. I have seen this happen so no one should think that they are irreplaceable since some employers can be disgusted by a brilliant employee that they prefer to just get rid of that person with a bad attitude and get someone else with an attitude they like better.

I'm already taking the step to move out of the tech sector(programming). It's just ridiculous how every jobs has requirements for specific programming/scripting languages and requires professional experience when a lot of them aren't even something you can pick up unless you actually work in the field because the cost of setting up the environment takes time and money as well. What's worse is despite having a lot of experience in a previous job, when you move between jobs using different languages or environment you're unfamiliar with, you're pretty much going back to junior.
I'm giving up because programming is the type of job where your skills can be completely worthless depending on the job and most of us are severely underpaid for how essential our work is for businesses and industry operations and the stress it brought to us and our mental health. I'm seriously mentally exhausted to give a damn in my current job now. My advice to young people looking to get into the tech sector is to try for 2-3 years at most, if you don't see any long term prospect in it, leave and get into trade, you'll get compensated more for less stress.

I hear this, there are for sure lots of people just throwing stuff out there. But can you blame them?
People are spending far too long tweaking a resume which we were taught has to be generalized from a young age but now were being told they have to be specific to the job.
When the listing wants 5-10 years expirience for entry level, I'm going to try anyways and when im applying for hundreds of jobs a day im not going to take the time to cater them soecifically for each role otherwise I wouldnt get anywhere. Thats what the interview is for.
