    21:35 oh noooo 😭😭😭😭 a couple of years ago I lost 28 out of 28 of my pepper plants with that method. If you check most of the blogs and videos recommending that method, they typically finish with those trimmed down twigs heading into winter and then they never show how they emerged in spring - probably because most of them are dead by spring. The only way I've ever managed to overwinter pepper plants is by digging them up with as big of a rootball as possible, potting them up and then that's it, overwintering them as houseplants (Co Cavan). Definitely no trimming, taking away 90% of the plant is just too big of a shock for them. The general rule of thumb when it comes to pruning anything, from fruit, veg to trees is that you should never take away more than 30% of the plant to avoid shocking the plant and killing it. It makes my heart sink every time I see gardeners showing that they are now trying this "fabulous" method they saw online - everybody is always showing the method, but never the results: dead plants by spring. 😭😭😭😭 And just a side note: overwintered pepper plants seem to lose their productivity year after year, I got literally nothing in their fourth year, that's why I don't even bother trying to overwinter them anymore. I start them from seeds early in the year, I have heat mats and growlights, and those newly started plants are noticeably more productive than the overwintered ones - no idea why though. 🤷

      Ohhhhh noooo!!!! 🙈🙈🙈😅😅😅 majorrrr woopsy, I can tell your not joking 🫣
      Good news is I have loads of seeds to start again next spring and I learnt probably the most valuable tidbit of information just now!
      The other goods new is I get to do another video to show everyone what not to do with your peppers....I guess 🤦🏻‍♀️
      I can't believe you lost 28 peppers 😧 I'm going to nurture these so they pull through! Never take more than 30%, got it 👍👍 thank you so much, this is some really amazing advice 🫑🙃🌱

    I love seeing you growing fresh vegetables at home. I also had created a huge flower bed when I was in Vancouver, so I could totally understand how much work it is. Now in Toronto, I still have a garden but it's just quarter the size of what I had in Vancouver :) . Great job with your amazing vegetable gardening. It really require passion for someone to do this much amount of work, Laura 👏

      Thank you so much! I would loveee a massive flower bed, I wish I new a bit more about flowers, I have a bit to learn with the bloom cycles and coloir pairings!
      I went with mostly bulbs this year but I find they flower and die back real quick! Maybe annuals are the way forward! 🤗

    I am like you, I don’t like summer, always too hot for me! I love autumn and winter. There is nothing like snuggling up under the covers with a good book by the fire! I still find plenty to do in the garden, especially in autumn! Your dog is so beautiful and gentle! The kale looks amazing! Wishing you all the best for your surgery. Take plenty of time to recover. Don’t worry about us, we will wait for you, we are not going anywhere! The garden will do fine too. Don’t rush back, just let us know you are ok.
    If by any chance you feel well enough for a Q&A, here is a Q : Would you ever consider taking on an allotment?
    Please, do only do a Q&A if you are well enough. The body needs so much rest to recover properly from any surgery. Sending you lots of love 😘💕🌸

      Thrilled to hear I am not the only one who doesnt like summer 🤭🙈Snuggling up by a fire sounds amazing!! Autumn feels like it's going to be a little less hectic but lots of maintenance to do! Cannot wait for the crispy cold mornings!
      Roo-boo is just a gentle giant, she loves to snuggle in right close and she's always peering over my arms with her nose into the beds to see what I am up too, sowing seeds at times can be interesting 😆🙈
      Thank you so much for your lovely wishes 🥰 I will keep you posted and see you very soon! Hope you have a great week on the plot and it's a less blustery one for you!! 💖🌸🤗🌱

    Your brassica bed looks so lush! I can't grow them until I make a separate bed for them and cover properly, otherwise they are just a cause of frustration because of pests:-(

    • @thetinygarden_
      @thetinygarden_  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Laitae 👋 thank you!! The brassicas are such a magnet for the cabbage whites aren't they! I did notice this year that the cabbage whites went after most of my other crops though 😅 so all my baby brassica seedlings for winter ended up suffering. I think next year I'll net it again but I'll leave one plant out over cover as a sacrificial plant!!
      Hope you have a lovely rest of your day! ☺️🌱

      @laitae 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@thetinygarden_ poor baby brassica seedlings, they didn't deserve that :-( I'd be worried that rather than just focusing on the sacrificial plant, pest would gain an appetite and attack other plants too!

    Hi Laura, I live where we get plenty of cold snow and ice in winter, I tried one time many years ago when I didn't know what I know now. I tried to keep my pepper plants going in my garage but alas they still froze. I have cats and I didn't want my cats munching on my plants so I couldn't bring them in the house. So for me I start my plants from seed every year 😃. Best of wishes for your upcoming surgery and may you have a speedy recovery. Thank you for another great video 🙂 Good to see Roo boo out with you 😁

    • @thetinygarden_
      @thetinygarden_  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sounds so cold where you are Julie! It's never really gets below -4 here. We're near the coast we don't get much snow either! The last time we had snow the whole town came to a standstill! 🤣
      A lot of my pepper seedlings dampened off so they were hard to get going 😪 but I think I may have killed them by hacking off 80% of there growth in this video 😅 oops!
      I had a cat years ago and it ate my house plants 🪴 I thought it must have been super tasty but maybe it's more common than I realise 😆😆
      Thank you for your best wishes and see you soon!! 🤗🌱

    Those are definitely NOT dwarf kale !
    and it could have been picked earlier when leaves were smaller. It will grow all thru the winter I'd bet. It grows slower but it grows here in winter snows and survives artic below freezing blasts

      Hey T St 👋 lovely to hear from you!
      Hope you're keeping well!
      🤣🤣 I know the kale is hugeeee! I have just checked the seed packet and it's called Dwarf Green Curled, also known as borecole!!! Amazing, isn't it! 💪🥬
      Survives artic temperatures 🌡 🥶 wow that's awesome!! Thankfully I don't think it gets much lower than -4 here in winter! I'd be so pleased if it keeps producing! 🤞

      Mustard greens, I don't think I've ever had those but I absolutely love a veggie plant recommendation it's going on the list for next year!

      @@thetinygarden_ Gurl! When you live in the southern USA, you eat greens. You eat a mess of greens. Collard, mustard, turnip, kale. Simmer them in water with a nice hunk of fatback. The liquid is called ‘pop licker.’ You take a hunk of cornbread, put it on a plate and cover with greens. That’s fine dining in ‘the South.’

      @thetinygarden_  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I ate the leaves of cauliflower before I roasted them, they tasted delicious! I also harvested the tops of my Brussels sprouts and ate those, they kind of reminded me of mini cabbages! I didn't know you could do the same thing with brocolli though, I wounder is sprouting brocolli the same?

    Kale often makes it through my harsh winters here. Then we can get an early harvest before it bolts in the spring. Yours s/b fine.
    My dwarf curly kale is a monster…….😂. I agree about the F1’s, they have a place in the smaller gardens. I am looking for a dwarf squash to stay within my anti squirrel cage better next year.
    🙏 for a smooth surgery and recovery.

      Wow your sprouts are huge, mine are about a third of that size. I’m wondering if I need to remove the lower stems on mine??? Does this help fatten up the sprouts??
      Wish we liked kale… yours looks beautiful. The think I tried kale chips once and I burnt them, so more like charcoal 😂😂😂
      Great tip though getting more production on kale rather than say cabbage, especially when space is limited.
      Must feel great to get all them jobs done, peace of mind. Especially knowing you are going to be out of action for a wee while. Speedy recovery for two weeks time.
      Question time a good idea for when you are not able to get in the garden.
      Your lighting looks awesome to me and I love your music in this weeks vlog.
      Excited to see your chutney 😊 maybe my last tomatoes in the greenhouse will allow me to make some.
      I was going to try over winter my peppers and chillies but I haven’t even used this years, just in the freezer. So not bothering now, got a purple variety I like the appearance of so will just grow that from seed next year. Less maintenance over the quieter months inter months and then Tricia and I can get away for some well earned breaks x
      Turnips very cute and the joy they bring you…. Once you pull them out😂
      I could go on and on (must be in the name Ali… #myrustygarden 😂😂)

      So my comment on the sofa makes absolutely no sense 😆
      So chuffed with the sprouts I did then from seed for the first time!
      Ahaha I could cry with laughter right now, I did the kale crisps last night with loaded potatoes... oh I would not recommend the kale....burnt but like half not burnt not sure about it at all. Lovely texture but flavour was off 🤣 I just prefer to sauté it in butter but I did see a kale soup recipe I might try! Potatoes on the other hand were 💯!
      The chutney was so fun to make I might have to bring out a cheese board just to test it 🤤🧀 not sure did they all seal properly there are a few air pockets, even though I 'debubbled'
      I did try with the lighting but I had to cut half the pepper planting scene because I looked like Casper 👻 I did manual exposure for a lot of the footage, still learning!
      The pepper would be lovely roasted in a soup and the chillies could make an awesome chilli sauce but it's just finding the time isn't it!!
      So lovely to catch up with you! Hope you book somewhere nice for a little winter sunshine holiday 💖x
