    Hello Tad. I was working in the field and ran across a thermostat that the voltage on the R and Y was 16 volts, it also showed 16 volts in the air handler and 16 volts in the condenser. Testing the Red with green, and white register 27 volts. What could be causing the voltage drop? The contactor does not show voltage on the coils, but when testing the coil for ohm it shows 12.8 ohm and it also has continuity. What could be the problem? Thanks for your input.

    • @TaddyDigest

    Lots of insulation worn through on vibrating Goodman units. Most manufacturers do not tie wrap the wiring properly. When installing new systems, I pull the top and go down inside to foam tape and secure the wiring. Otherwise you'll be called back out in 3-10 years.

    Out of curiosity, if my AHU has no fuse (3 amp or 5amp) can I wire in a fuse between my transformer and my furnace board? If so, I have been thinking that if I am going to do this, should one side of the fuse be on the 24v hot from transformer and the other side my common from transformer? then from there to my board so that I have power in and out of that fuse? I couldn't find a video on how to do this. I have come across furnace boards/ahus without a fuse. cheers

    When you say the contactor coil resistance is way off, im guessing your saying the coil internally got damaged and might be reading Kohms or Mohms? Or short to ground?

    • @TaddyDigest
      @TaddyDigest  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      typical contactor ohms for a 24 volt coil are around 10-15 and when damaged will read like 3 😁

    I currently have a low voltage intermittant short. Replaced the fuse and the heat pump will run in ac mode for about 24 hours before blowing the fuse again. Resistance on the heat pump contactor is about 17 ohms, I didn’t find any wires chafing outside. I’m wondering if the thermostat has an intermittent issue causing the fuse to pop?

    • @TaddyDigest
      @TaddyDigest  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TaddyDigest found it.. in the AH, low voltage wiring is in a small metal box the size of a playing card with 2 screw’s holding the cover on. Checked every wire run, ohmed every coil, unplugged the rev valve ect, everything checked good. Had my popper in, then removed and put in a new fuse. The ah was running while putting on the cover to the control wiring, installed the bottom screw of the cover, then while installing the top screw, the fuse blew. The the stat wire was routed behind the box, as i installed that top screw, the threads of the screw were penetrating cutting the insulation of the stat wires (still in the brown insulation). Accidental find but ill take it.

      @@TaddyDigest Thx much for your reply! Because the Lil' Popper resettable breaker is about $20.00, I'm looking at one like you're showing in this video. It's 3A with the rocker switch (less than $10.00/free shipping/Prime. Does it need to have a low voltage rating, or are the ratings such as 125v/250v (whatever the exact numbers are) maximum ratings which is OK?

    What if the unit runs for 3 days then it burns the transformer (low voltage side) and not the fuse

    • @TaddyDigest
      @TaddyDigest  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      then it could be a wire touching only at certain times

    A bit confused when you said the fuse is protecting the transformer. I thought it's supposed to protect the control board.

    • @AlexanderGonzalez-un9ox

      @@bojack2740 it protects both. The board is wired in the 24v circuit and the fuse is in the board.
