Is Frankfurt Safe Around The Central Train Station? ( Frankfurt Main Hbf)

  • Is Frankfurt safe around the Frankfurt Central Train Station? I walk around the streets in front of the Frankfurt (Main) Hauptbahnhof and see for myself.
This area of Frankfurt looks even more dangerous than the last time I was here before the pandemic.
On the streets around the Frankfurt Central Station (known as Frankfurt Main Hbf), there are casinos, spicy entertainment for adults, hotels, restaurants, and bars. This area around the Frankfurt Central Station is very busy during the day with the many people that come through the Frankfurt Am Main Hauptbahnhof Train Station. I show what the neighborhood looks like in the daytime and talk about if it is dangerous.

My wife and I just walked those same streets - AT NIGHT! We stayed at a nice hotel near the river and decided to walk north to dinner before sunset. I told her we needed to find a different street to walk back after dinner and we picked an even worse street! Open drug usage and dealing along each block. At least the people all seemed to be more interested in getting high than bothering us. The next day we waked south, across the river into a really nice area of the city. I would recommend a cab or Uber to anyone who is not comfortable with sharing sidewalks with such conditions.

You cannot generalise things about Frankfurt. I would say, the area around the Hauptbahnhof are the only ones that make you feel unsafe. But cops are always around, so I have never felt unsafe as a woman mostly travelling alone. Just 800 meters from here is where I live in a place called Westend Sud in downtown Frankfurt, right next to the Messeturm. It’s like the diplomatic quarters with consulates and other main buildings. You will see that these areas close to the Hauptbahnhof are really beautiful.

Walked there a week ago, someone was doing crack in the middle of the day. but no one was bothering me. There was a different story when i took my camera out and took a few shots of a station and some trams. Some guy on a bike started saying something to me in german which i didn't understand, i said that i don't speak german, but he just continued, so i walked away. A girl walking past said that he is saying that i shouldn't shoot people without permission. I think this has nothing to do with what i shoot, but he just saw a camera and saw it as an opportunity to scare me or scam me or whatever. I didn't take my camera out in that area anymore to avoid unnecessary bullshit.
