    I wish they would revive the pirate theme. Kids these days should be able to enjoy classic themes AFOLs grew up on without paying an arm and leg for old sets.

      They did in 2015 and it bombed. They were on clearance in stores near me and they still barely moved. If that small wave took off then we might be looking at new ships today.

    Fans will probably use this set for custom stuff, it's not very good, not terrible. With all the roller coasters pieces that have been seen for the last month (the Joker Manor, the Expert Roller Coaster and this one), there's going to be a lot of people wanting to create their own roller coasters, that's for sure!

      What is to be fair there, the Joker Manor set came out last November; thus it came out last year.

    8:23 I find it so amazing that nearly 30 years after the Pirates and Bluecoats fought here, the Lagoon Lock-Up has been converted into an amusement park ride. Very awesome remake of a classic set!

    This set is excellent. LEGO is smart, they know how to put together very functional sets like this one to appeal MOCers. Once you are done putting the build together, you want a double of the set. So many useful pieces in this one. Great value like Destiny's Bounty.

  • @BrickBrosUK

    • @entity1566
      @entity1566 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      BrickBros UK just imagine how much more time and effort it would've taken for the designers of the big rollercoaster to put 3 builds into that set. But you have to admit that that would have been unbelievably cool! 😀

  • @Stabby-Cat
    @Stabby-Cat 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    What I’d love is for Lego to release just the roller coaster cars and a lot of tracks as a set, just like what they do for the train tracks. That way, we can build our own coasters with plentiful pieces without having to buy $90 sets just for the tracks.

    • @zurtle
      @zurtle 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's what Bricklink is for, right?

    • @Neil-qg9cw
      @Neil-qg9cw 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jonathan Bell I imagine these pieces will still be extremely expensive on Bricklink as they are only in expensive sets. Better for the consumer for Lego to sell them, and make different colours available etc.

    • @d1p70
      @d1p70 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Get the track pieces from 3rd party manufacturers. They will not be authentic lego but you can buy them in bulk and build massive structures without blowing a hole in your pocket.

    • @StevenVillman
      @StevenVillman 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Neil
      Plus, the shipping costs can be extremely high there, especially if you are ordering from Europe, Asia etc. to Canada (or even to the U.S.)!

    • @StevenVillman
      @StevenVillman 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +d1p70
      That won't work for LEGO purists (like me); and, what is besides that, the quality likely will be bad there *_*if*_*_ _*_you can even_*_ _*_*find*_*_ _*_any_* from third party manufacturers.

  • @MayoHosko
    @MayoHosko 6 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    I think if they included the parts for mechanism to pull the coaster up and guide it around the corner, while being able to incorporate power functions even if it meant increasing the price by about $20, the playability would have increased dramatically

    Honestly was hyped for this set... a little disappointed because of the action features seeming to work not too well... but will still have to get at some point. • @jonathangiese5727
      @jonathangiese5727 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed. When Jangbricks brought the final model on screen, I was impressed with how nice it looks, secondary builds don’t often appear as polished as this one. However, the playability of that ride is definitely hideous, and I would ditch the whole moving track mechanic in a heartbeat for just having a skull that turns.

    4:07 The skull can even grip the first flat tile seam just above the shark's eye!
    6:14 I encountered the same issue. If the Technics pieces are fitted too firmly to the axle, it won't work properly. However a looser fit allows it to function properly every time :D

    Extended the arms holding the Skull Flap so that it didn't hit or impede on the coaster carriages or mini figs. Also added a spanner piece on one of the track cross members so that when it is static the carriages are held in a "moving" position.

  • @mavweirdo
    @mavweirdo 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    On the third build I found that the mechanism worked better when the skeleton arm was not connected to the coaster cars. The friction of the axle seemed to be the issue. I took out the axle and and put a 2x2 turntable plate under the skull and now it works fine.

    I feel like this is one of those sets that's probably better as a parts pack than what you actually build with it, spending $90 for a parts pack is kinda steep but it's still the cheapest way to currently get roller coaster pieces and as Jang mentioned you get them in a color that makes them applicable to a lot of different builds.

    it’d be nice to have a large plate in the center where there is a lot of empty space to make a seafloor and make some sort of center build, like a brick built shark (kind of like from the atlantis line) but not too big, maybe 1.5x the shark train’s size

    this is a set which i have found has several nice touches but several flaws, it needs some customising. ive changed mine alot several times so from a pounds to time spent perspective its given me value. its bigger than it looks but the problem is the track its not really changable (not without a lot more pieces) and the whole coaster track system are not that versatile. i might be wrong but i think that this track layout is exactly the same as joker mansion

    Nice video. I think the main build would have been better if they had included some kind of manually operated crank that made a chain "grab" the cars and took them up the ramp until gravity took over and they ran down the slopes. Not sure if something like that would even be possible but if so then it would be cheaper than a battery operated train and give you something to do while you sit and play with it. Speaking of "play" - You keep talking about play value. I would love to see how you calculate that. Do you spend time swooshing Lego builds after buying them or what? ^^ (I prolly would :P)

  • @jacksonreesman3838

    A few of these (2 or 3)would be great if you want to make a TRUE roller coaster. Lego would also need to double the civilians in this set for the sake of the queue for the ride, even if it drove the price to $100.

    For an adult, I think this is a good idea trigger - should buy the expert one and change the themes to pirates.. using real lego "big" ships, soldiers, crocs, and pirates... and ghosts too.

    The third build looks fundamentally flawed. I think I'll just save up for the Creator Expert set because none of the smaller roller coaster sets grab me.

    It would be great to see you use the pieces left over and show Lego what they could have done!

    At your 14:57 time mark mentioning a trash bin, I believe that entire build is actually a souvenir booth to represent selling items to remember your fun day as one would at any amusement park.
    I am not sure if I want to open this or return it myself and use that money towards the Lego Friends set # 41375, I refer to as the Sea Roller Coaster but ut is actually the Pier Amusement park but the roller coaster looks more like it is part of the ocean since it looks like the ride is a raft on water going through a wrecked pirate ship since my Lego theme is more on the ocean since I love surfing

    I was so close to buying this, but I bought outdoor adventures and the 3 in 1 pastry shop instead, after this review I'm quite glad I did. The main lure seems to be getting the full circuit of track, it is a little bit of a shame because it looked fantastic.

    This set is a bit dissappointing. I was really looking forward to it as a less expensive alternative to the HUGE Creator Expert set but there's just not enough to the main build and the 2nd and 3rd builds seem pretty weak. Bummer! Nice review Jang! You just saved me $90.
