    I hate the lack of pushback from popular folks on social media because of their sponsorships. That's one of the reasons I value jangs reviews.
    It makes me sad how accepting people are of these price increases. Like you say, 400 bucks is a lot of money and Lego keeps releasing more and more of these high end sets. It really seems like they've went all in on nostalgia sets for afols.
    Fair critiques on the set itself and some of the differences between the two. Does seem in a lot of ways they went the wrong direction with short track, single coaster, and detached booths. But a lot can be forgiven for the cool concept and technical features

    • @joevictor53
      @joevictor53 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Agreed. Way too many people like Bricksie are just too scared to complain because they don't want the free Lego to stop. But they cover it up as them being "positive." And like AFOL TV said, those kind of reviewers aren't spending their own money so they won't be honest about if it is worth it or not

    Thank you for providing an independent assessment of this set. It is REALLY easy to be effusive and giddy when you get a $400 set sent to you for free from Lego. But for the rest of us who actually have to pay for it ourselves, this video helps explain the good, the bad and the ugly.

    This roller coaster is the 4th tallest lego set. The tallest lego set is 10181 The Eiffel Tower (42.5") followed by 21203/92176 NASA Saturn V (39") and followed by 10268 Vestas Wind Turbine (39").

    The old one was longer with no inversions, the new one is shorter with 2 inversions. I'd rather have a mix of the two. But the price is the main thing for me. I'll be buying multiple other sets instead of either rollercoaster (and I'm a big rollercoaster fan IRL). Great review, btw!

    LEGO has always been expensive, but the last few years they have gotten out of control. I know all the IPs, and licensing add to the cost of sets, but this coaster is just a straight up LEGO set. However... we all keep buying them. Like anything in this society, they only way the cost will ever change direction is if we all stopped consuming whatever it is they are selling. For the record... I love your honest reviews!

    I wonder if LEGO designed this for a corner of a large LEGO CITY theme park area. I don’t like how the tower tiles are hidden behind the lift and the entire set seems more of an Immediate gratification for action and wow to standout. I prefer more realistic looking sets but I understand LEGO fans must keep their LEGO CITY fresh and not fall behind when new sets are released. I’ve found some model railroaders do this also to keep people and themselves interested. I’m kind of new to your channel so I’m wondering if you could please make some videos once in a while about sets that are still fresh and exciting versus ones that have gone stale?

    I wish some of the high speed turns, like the one after the second loop, would be a banking turn. For $400 I would have loved some more focus on the details. No way would a rollercoaster turn flat at that speed.

    Nice review! The original Roller Coaster is one of my favorite sets so I'll definitely be picking this one up at some point.
    Oh the tallest Lego set up up until now was set#10181. Creator Expert Eiffel Tower. 42.5 inches in height. I'm sure the new one coming out later this year will top it finally.

      Also the Lego Ideas Saturn V Rocket is taller than the Loop Coaster standing 1m when positioned upright. Not as tall as the Eiffel Tower. I also think that the Wind Turbine set would also be taller than the Loop Coaster measuring in at approximately 1m.

  • @imaginationsquare

    5:00 no they can't, these black snot plates are the max, adding anything onto it is too wide and blocks the carts from passing. Believe me, I have been a MOC coaster designer for 3 years, I've tried a lot..
    Could you please test such a simple thing before pointing it out as a 'bad' thing?

    • @dougdavis9438
      @dougdavis9438 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I noticed that too. Even a small tile would interfere with the train. LEGO could have made those SNOT plates in dark blue to match the color of the bricks.

  • @imaginationsquare
    @imaginationsquare 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Never have I ever heard a reviewer say this set was hard to build, everyone always says it's a very easy and smooth building process, ofcourse a little test and failing is needed, but this is an insane machanism, so it's fair.

    4:55 putting anything on these studs probably would’ve caught on the bit of plastic that holds the car onto the track.

  • @VXRHSV
    @VXRHSV 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The main issue is setting the lifting platform and the counter weight correctly.... The platform is not reaching the track due to the weight not hoisting it far enough. Plus when it does work when the counter weight goes back it damages the upper part of the structure due to the force it returns to the top. The structure constantly needs pushing back together....

  • @legod1717
    @legod1717 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I agree with all your points. I had an issue after I moved it and the cars would get stuck at the top(with a motor) I solved the problem by making sure the tower was absolutely level and new batteries in my power brick. I also made sure that all the round horizontal connection pieces of the tower were snug. I don’t understand why they used all the half round pieces for this but ok. I still love the set even though it is expensive. I figured it should be $350 but I think they just started with the price increase up front. Great video as always!👍😎

  • @truebnb
    @truebnb 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I was having the same problem with the cars getting stuck at the top. I played around with some things and found that the problem doesn't seem to happen when there's only a small gap between the elevator track and the fixed track at the top (large gap shown at 3:39). To try to adjust that, the full height tower piece with the chain has a 4x4 gray cube type thing at the top that's put down on a 4x4 stud grid to hold that in place. If you instead shift that over 1 stud when placing you can sort of angle that tower piece enough to close up that gap quite a bit.

  • @ZacPricener
    @ZacPricener 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    It doesn't seem like you took into account the size of the pieces, the size of the packaging, and the engineering and development costs. Generally, price-per-part is a poor metric for determining value. Take that modular set you showed. That set is comprised almost entirely of smaller pieces, so the price-per-part on it is very deceptive.
    What does the set weigh? That's the more reliable way to determine if the cost is reasonable (though even that is not 100% flawless).

    Per piece works for standard lego sets, but with these sets you have more 1 off pieces, and a lot of big pieces. They usually increase the cost of all sets a little to account for the licensing, instead of raising the licensed sets a lot.

    Hey, it's LEGO. If you don't like it in blue, just exchange it for yellow. All those complaints... just makes me so angry. A couple of them are fair, but the rest... it's about taste. And it's LEGO. You are supposed to build it your way. Even complaining that it's hard to build... wow. And regarding the price: do you know how expensive it is to develop new parts, and how few they sell of these advanced sets?

    I can justify the 11 cents per piece, and the reason is twofold: not many people know this, but Lego is trying to switch to a new, slightly more expensive, type of plastic that is biodegradable (which is also why the quality of Lego's plastic seems to be degrading). In addition, the mold to make the actual rollercoaster pieces doesn't get much use, compared to other pieces, which makes those rollercoaster parts more expensive to produce, compared to other parts. So, pricier plastic, plus pricier parts = pricier sets...

    Thanks for this nice review, you should check the review from ‚Steinküste‘ (sadly only in german). He get his coaster motorized and there will be major problems with it. For the Problem that the coaster won‘t exit the elevator on top: after a amount of rides, you have to adjust the weight on the back, so the track that lifts the train ends a bit higher. The other Problem that occurs, is that the chain wich lift the train would wear out. So perhaps you have to shorten it.
    I think those problems shouldn‘t come with a 400.- Set. When you spend so much money, you should get a set that works without auch problems.

    $400??? 😳 That is insane! NO excuse for such a ridiculous price.

    As far as having just one loop. The 2 loops are very purposeful. It's called LOOP and the 2 loops form the Os, the large drop going to the loops is the L, and the track curves towards home in a P format. Thus the whole set itself spells LOOP. So they need two loops

    I like the honest feedback but you can’t really base price per piece as a way to see if it has good value this set has a lot of big pieces that cost Lego more money to produce

    • @LukasD89
      @LukasD89 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The production cost is still ridiculously low compared to the pricing. Plus there are a lot of basic small pieces as well. No motors, nothing, it’s a scam

    To me the only truely bad thing is the price, 360 is up to modern-lego standards I feel and 350 would be perfect to me, but 400?! GET THE COUPON CODES OUT GUYS!

    I really like this set. If it was made in the US and especially if Lego was an American company I would buy the real set. However, y'know I wish Lego would start being competitive with alternative brick mfrs this is not 1990!
    I'm going to buy the alt version which is less than half the price--- after buying several competing vendors products.
    It is too bad Lego doesn't manufacture in the US because if they did, I would have to rethink this!
    I really hope Lego starts getting its act together. They make good sets+I could see myself being a loyal brand customer... but they don't seem to want that!

    Not sure what is going on lately a Lego HQ. But 2022 seems to have had quite a few Lego sets that feels unfinished and rushed. Like the Delorean, the doors can't stay open by themselves, i mean it's not like thats a huge part of the BTTF movie car and the fact that the window frames looks like something out of a tank or something.
    I really wanted this rollercoaster set, but the price is just too high, and seeing these lack of detail, miscolor matching, it just puts me off. It's unacceptable for a set of this price to be anywhere below excellent.

    Set 10181 (1:300 scale Eiffel Tower) was 64.77 cm tall whereas this one is 52.5 cm tall … I think the soon to be release new one may be bigger yet

    I thought the price to part ratio conversation died a decade ago. Size of pieces matter. It can artificially increased.
