A nice build and you will be able to see all of your fish. In my tank I went for a rocky river bed with rocks on top of rocks. I found that my loaches are often hidden as they live under the rocks but interesting to see my minnows under the rocks looking for food or shelter from the flow. Glowlight Danios were perfect for my tank - I am interested to see what fish you add.

Depends from aquarium to aquarium. I use K+micronutrients (product is in a pinned comment). In this particular aquarium I will not use any fertilizers because I have only Crypts and Vallisneria.

People level their tanks because if you don’t it puts uneven pressure on the glass and can cause it to break. Also the leveling map is really there to make sure that any debris under the tank doesn’t crack the tank. A small rock creates a pressure point and can crack the tank. The fact that the substrate is sloped has nothing to do with using a rimless tank incorrectly.

    • @arir8655

The leveling of the actual aquarium is what you need to worry about not the substrate inside being leveled.

sad you didnt do it rigth, and made the filter. under the sloped area! its so ez! just make a slope, out of acrylic. with walls on the acrylic slope, and on the bottom of the tank. so you make small room, for filter media. then make a small space, for a hoose/pipe to go from a pump to the top.. then the filter is inside, and apart of a natural system

No one seems to quite understand the flow dynamics of creeks and rivers. For that reason, tanks are always put at a ridiculous angle, and there is always a huge pool at the bottom. As a retired extreme water kayaker, I know what those dynamics are, and if I had the money, I'd make a fast water tank with less than an inch of drop, without the vast amount of substrate that most river tank builders put in. The places where they are putting in wood would never happen in real life. It would be good for people who make tanks like this to get out and look at a mountain stream, and to understand it. They need to understand how the force of water plays against surfaces and pins things down, or lifts others up and washes them away. What causes eddies, pour-overs, and holes? Why is some water slack, while others run fast and splashy. When you understand fluid dynamics and who water flow in the natural environment, you'll have a whole other idea of how to build a natural looking heavy current system, but not before.
As a note, some of the world's gnarliest class V white water drops less than 7 feet in a mile. The only places where it drops more than that are waterfalls. Most blue ribbon trout streams drop less than two feet in a mile.
Do the math. in a natural creek or river such as the type which hillstream loaches and other fast flowing water fish live in nature, the slope is less than 0.1 over the length of the tank. If you place your wood and rocks correctly, and truly naturally, you should be able to get your natural river to run like a white water stream with just a tiny shim under one end, and a decent filter putting water in one end, and pulling it out of the other. A water bar at both the top and the bottom will help ensure that the flow progresses evenly, and in a natural manor. Flatter rocks will be your friend in such a tank, and so will wood, but don't put the wood lengthwise in the tank. place the wood either crosswise or just a bit beyond crosswise but with the wood angled downstream. Another thing about wood, and even rock in a deep enough aquarium, is that it does not need to touch bottom all the way across to start backing up water, and then having it pour over. Lots of fish hide under logs, or beneath undercut rocks.
The substrate in this tank would be okay if the water was coming from back to front, but it coming from left to right, but with it going from left to right makes me thing this individual hasn't spent much time in nature, looking at how water works on the environment.

    • @IMaqua
