    I also have a handsome rooster named Henry! We do the same thing with him and all our chickens, which is snuggle and cuddle with them . A lot of people don't realize how sweet chickens are. And although I sometimes still need to keep an eye on Henry he is overall a friendly boy. Love our chickens! I only wish all chickens were well cared for!!!

      That is so cool. Henry must be a popular name for Roosters. . That is awesome. Yes you are right they are very smart and very affectionate birds. I'm happy to hear you do the same. Chickens are awesome . You are right I feel the same it saddened me to know some are not well taken care of . All we can do is love ours more. .
      Thank you for sharing . I really appreciate it. Stay warm

    Pretty sure the chickens with white feathers and black feathers around the neck and tail are Light Brahma's. They have feathered feet. I have Buff Brahma hens now that are a golden brown with black neck and tail but have had the Light ones in the past. My favorite breed! Very docile hens. I would love to have a Brahma rooster some day. I have a few Icelandic hens and the one rooster I have is an Icelandic. He's friendly too! I appreciate what your saying here but in my experience I've had friendly roosters and really scary roosters. All treated the same. All loved. In fact, one I nursed back to health after a nasty infection of some kind. Kept him inside in the basement in a dog crate, medicated him, took him out for sun baths, and when he recovered he was terrible to us! We had to keep a broom nearby to protect ourselves, haha! But it certainly doesn't hurt to love on them. Your chickens are beautiful!

      Thank you for sharing. Yes light brahma . Chris my rooster I don't know what breed he is . Got them from a friend when they were little. She didn't know either. . I guess I always depend on their character.. no matter how they are raised. Kinda like people some are good some are bad . So far I have been blessed with some sweet boys. . I had a friend that happened to it too. She took care of him and nurtured him back after he was mean too. .
      I really appreciate it for you sharing . It is good to hear from other chicken owners and their experience. Good luck with your boy.

      @@tanjasplace4202 Hmm, Chris has feathered feet. I wonder if he's a brahma crossed with something. I had a beautiful rooster once, he was a cross between a buff orpington and a blue orpington. Pretty and a friendly boy. He was our first rooster and we loved him! Whatever Chris is - he's beautiful!

    About 7 months ago I bought 2 chicks. I buy my budgies and cockatiels food from a small bird store. There was atleast a dozen plus chicks in a box. I put my hand in there and one of the chicks jumped into my hand. I thought they were broiler, roaster chicks so I thought , o.k 1 year , give them a good life. I had never had chicks or wanted them as pets, friends. I kept them I my room. One of them was a rooster. Ouch. He is a rhoade island. Fast forward. He is amazing. Never attacked me. He showed actual aggression only once. He was in my den, where they sleep and I was trying to pick him up and as I was He looked back at me as I had him at eye level and I could see he wanted to bite but he didn't. That is when I knew he trusted me. The first few months I was kind to them but I didn't want to get to close for various reasons. I didn't know, and still don't k ow if I would be able to keep them their whole lifetime for various reasons during these uncertain times. He is amazing. He is a rooster. He loves to be held when the day is done. He dances for me, tidbidds for his hens. He is always on the lookout for danger ,and likes to be hand fed. He won't eat for the most part until I " crow". I don't know why. I never got or had to be aggressive towards him. When he was young, I just didn't allow him to jump on me in a dominant way.I bought another hen . I just got lucky I guess. He is a good soul. Who would have thought. Not me. And, he is huge ang gorgeous. They spend most of the day in my backyard. About half an acre in Los Angeles county.
    His name is Lock. God bless this world's messes

    I hand raised all my hens and roosters, kids played with them almost every day. I always end up with a whacked out one once and while usually bantam little ones attack me! I got 7 jersey giant roosters that are the sweetest boys ever! I think it’s just the personality of each one, you got grab his has when the first time he attacks you and pin him down for 5-7 minutes! My giants are 12-14 pounds . You can’t be scared they will know it. I’ll tuck him under my arm and walk around 20 minutes with them we build a bond

Most friendly guy I ever had kids and dog played with him. Now he is 11 months he attacks everyone except me. If he is out and you walk in the yard Che attacks both my kids. New chicken mama here ❤started beginning of August and got a couple different batches of chicks. Out of 17 chicks I believe I have 4 roosters. They are all very sweet. They don’t necessarily like me to hold them but they know me as the “treat” lady 😂 Depending on noise level I am hoping to keep them all as I have raised them since babies

    I used to be around roosters all the time as a teenager in Ky. Practically everyone not in the city had them. ... I found that the meanest ones were I was at were the Banty roosters (not sure if the spelling is correct).... I got attacked regularly by a a couple. 😂
    Very aggressive but by far my favorite

    • @tanjasplace4202
      @tanjasplace4202  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think that every breed has some aggressive ones it depends on the character of the rooster. I have been lucky so far mine are sweet . I love on the all the time. But I agree the little ones are a challenge sometimes. Banty. .

      Oh most definitely. It's just seemed like the banty were the fiercest chicken in the yard. I got a kick out of it. The bantys and the silkies were my favorite anyway.

    My boy is a Rohde Island Red and is a suspicious fellow, but he has looked at me calmly and just let me pet his chest recently while he stood there and opened and shut his beak like the hens do when they come on my lap and ask for a hug. (I do sit with my birds too much XD) My rooster used to avoid me and seemed extra alert when i was around. But now he's 6 months old and is starting to climb on and off my legs along with his affectionate ladies. But even this interaction is super rare. Most days he avoids me completely except to be fed. I'm alright if he's just a shy boy, as long as he doesn't turn his concern into aggression. I've never heard of that happening if you treat them kindly and they are visibly growing more relaxed around their owner. Hopefully Jasper will only improve over time :)

    In my experience, the less you pamper roosters as chicks, the better they are. When I've ignored them, and let the hens raise them, they've never been violent with me. It's the ones that were hand reared that were mean.

    Does anyone know much about White Leghorn Roosters? I have a 6 month old one that is super jumpy. He tries to attack us a lot. I’ve been training him with the beak to the dirt technique. He’s better for a week, then things get dicey. It may be partly his breed…. Yes, he was hand-raised by my grandchildren, but he’s definitely skittish as an adult.

    • @tanjasplace4202
      @tanjasplace4202  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      He may stay that way . Just keep working with him . I had one rooster he was a little one . I had to pick him up and hold him when I was feeding the girls. He never changed so I had to find him another home. Some breeds are more aggressive than others. Or just he has his own mind.

    Our rooster was very sweet to us, but he was terribly rough with the hens ~ even though they were from the same clutch and raised together ~ We finally had to get rid of him, because the girls were miserable ~ Although we tried everything, we couldn't ever correct him

      That is so sad. I'm so sorry about that. It's hard to make that decision. That was one of the reasons why I had to make decisions on giving up one of my boys and keeping Chris and Henry . Sometimes we have to think about the girls first. It's not easy decision . Thank you for sharing your story I really appreciate it.

      @@tanjasplace4202Sorry I missed your reply.Yes Chris and the white hens are Light Sussex. They are a wonderful breed. I would fix a chicken run for Chris and about 5 hens before I would let him go.I’ve learned a lot about roosters over the years and as long as Henry can handle Chris and just runs him off if he needs to everything will be fine.But if Chris gets to where he can outdo Henry and takes over the flock he could possibly kill Henry. I have had to retire roosters to a safe place and not let them around the flock to keep the younger one from trying to kill them.Also whatever a baby chick sees first when it is hatched out it will think is it’s mother.If you interact with a single baby chick when it is hatched it will follow you around with no fear of you.Don’t even let it around other chicks at first. I had a chicken that hatched out in a ducks nest that some hens had been going in and laying eggs with hers. I pulled into my driveway and saw the little chicken sitting in the grass at the point of death. Pick it up and took it in the house and put its beak in water. It drank and started to purk up.My son came by and I showed it to him and I said that it doesn’t seem to have any fear of us.That chicken thought I was it’s mom and wouldn’t hang with the others. I could be mowing with a riding mower up in my field and if a rooster chased after her she would run up to where I was working. I named her Ducky.
