    If you're a woman and you're traveling alone try to sit in the first 5 rows. The bad eggs tend to sit in the back from my experience. I've seen a woman get sexually assaulted in the back. Anytime around the holidays the bus is always packed. Sit next to another female and make friends if you have to.
    Almost at every terminal everyone has to get off the bus. If your carry on items include anything you don't want people to steal, take them with you. You can leave your luggage under neath if you're staying on the same bus, if you're transferring to another bus you should take everything with you.
    They do driver changes at every other stop, so you won't have the same driver usually.

      Just like when you were in grade school the bad kids always sat in the back of the school bus, funny how nothing changes as you get older. The best place to sit if you don't want drama is directly behind the driver.

    I've been on Greyhound before. And I've never had any issues. I've had lots of people ask me to watch there stuff and I did same thing. I always kept my purse with me. I try to be very careful with my surroundings,. The last time I rode on the Greyhound bus the bus driver was talking to me and having a conversation, I was a little nervous, I get nervous when I'm around strangers. He helped me calm down, I got to sit right in the front.

    I'm going by Greyhound to Biloxi, MS in October 2018. I haven't ridden a bus since the early 80's and decided to give this a go. Thank you so much for the tips! I already have my ticket. Thanks again and safe travels to you, my friend!

    Thanks for all your tips. I've been thinking about taking the bus for a trip for awhile. I finally booked a trip. Myself and my 2 autistic kids. A 2 hour trip, no layovers or transfers. The kids will experience public transit which doesn't exist in our rural county and if it all goes wrong, it's not tooo long of a wait for my husband to come and get us. 4 days at our destination and then a return trip on Greyhound. The kids are acting like I told them we were going to Disney! I just hope we can sit close to eachother on the bus or it's going to feel like a very very long ride! Time to start binge watching your greyound videos lol

    Great info, especially for the first time or intermittent traveler... Generally speaking, I've had really good luck with buses being on time or close to it. My step daughter however got stuck at a station in Lubbock to Dallas for 10 almost 10 hours.. It was a freak thing being way out in West Texas, but always be prepared to go fast or stick around for along time. Like Frugal Travel Guru said about theft.. Almost all thefts are thefts of convenience.. It happens pretty much everywhere.. discount or vip travel. I asked someone to watch my macbook traveling on the xcella train when I went to the restroom... I called out the entire car after the babysitter left.. I went up and down the train and no idea where he or my laptop went.. Guess what, MY BAD! Never heard of anyone getting jacked on the bus or other forms of distance travel.. (Not including subways, L's, etc).. The 21 days in advance for discounts is seriously sage advice... Just found your channel! Much appreciated!

    I have had fairly good experiences on Greyhound and I'm not "poor". I've met people from all strata on the bus, and I tend to get along with everyone. My trips are in the midwest, from St. Louis to everywhere. There are always hustlers. "No." is a complete sentence, and I use it pretty often, but I also help when I see a real need. I always take extra water and snacks because a lot of people just don't plan very well and Greyhound has no facilities for food and drink, other than expensive vending machines--though I've run into some pretty good coffee and hot chocolate at decent prices. Since I don't live on potato chips and coke, I carry canned tuna salad, nuts, carrot strips, nut butter, fruit, hard cheese slices, hard boiled eggs, anything else that doesn't need refrigeration.

    I would really thank you for this wonderful video after reading so many bad reviews about greyhound i was scared, but after watching your video, i was impressed i traveled from ATL to Sacramento and back , and it was ok most of the connections were on time and their terminals were clean, sitting in the back is not as pleasant because of the bathroom but all in all greyhound is ok to travel with.

    I personally have not had any issues with greyhound. Only had late buses and many years ago, they kicked someone off the bus for open alcohol, but it's been ok for me so far. The newer buses are great, and I don'ttake really long trips either, 4-6 hours on a bus is fine with me, lol and one bus I took in Christmas 2002, the driver could not find the stop , so he gets off the bus in full greyhound uniform, asking a group of people where the greyhound bus station is!!! :p

    I am confused about this whole thing. So I got tickets to come from Dallas tx to la. When you get to ur bus stop where you have to change buses and you go in the waiting room to wait for the next bus. Do you go up to the counter to check in or you pay for another ticket??

    • @fundyourlifestyle
      @fundyourlifestyle  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The ticket you purchase initially should be the only ticket you will need. It will consist of several different stubs, one for each leg of the trip. Each driver will tear off the portion of the ticket for the leg that he/she is driving and will hand you back the remaining stubs. So you don't need to pay for another ticket along the way. You don't even really need to check in at each station though you can if you have questions about what time and gate your next bus is leaving from.

    • @fundyourlifestyle
      @fundyourlifestyle  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When I have long layovers or stops I usually try to get some sleep if I can, if not I either listen to music on my phone, or watch movies or tv shows on my tablet. I also use the time to go to the bathroom and freshen up (you will need to freshen up a couple times on a 49 hour trip) and to get something to eat. Sometimes I just people watch, you can spend hours doing that on Greyhound lol.

    Any suggestions about E-Tickets. First time using them. I have been on Greyhound before a lot but I usually bought my ticket at the station. I'm traveling with my 3 kids. I hate doing the ticket part it's annoying

    • @fundyourlifestyle
      @fundyourlifestyle  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I recommend using Greyhound.com or the mobile app. It makes buying tickets much easier and there are online discounts. You can buy your ticket online and print it at home or pick the ticket up at the station.

    • @pearll_abcdgarcia2906
      @pearll_abcdgarcia2906 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I just used the E ticket, it was easier but I also used the app and printed out the tickets at the library. Somehow I felt more secure having a hard copy, especially with Greyhound.

      Stream PLUG You book the whole trip on one ticket. If it is a long trip, there may be multiple pages. Make sure you keep them all and the driver will take one page per leg of the trip.

    Does the grey hound snoop through your bags before going on a board? If so I'll like to know before I order the tickets

    • @fundyourlifestyle
      @fundyourlifestyle  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not that I'm aware of, you usually keep your bag(s) with you until it's time for them to go under the bus, and you can watch them put them under the bus if you like. And you are usually standing right there watching when they take the bags from under the bus at your final destination. There is really no time for them to snoop through your bags.
      In the few instances where your bags might be taken and loaded out of your sight I recommend putting luggage locks on your bags just to safe, but I don't really think you have to worry about Greyhound employees going through them.

    • @fundyourlifestyle
      @fundyourlifestyle  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I always go economy and buy my tickets online so i get the best price. I've never had any issues where paying for one of the other tickets would have made a difference.

    Thank you for the tips! I was wondering, do they have the same kind of security rules as the airport? specifically I'm wondering if they'd allow me to carry on large bottles of liquids like shampoo or juice on the bus. Do they check your carry on baggage for stuff like this?

    • @fundyourlifestyle
      @fundyourlifestyle  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've never had my carry on bag searched while traveling on Greyhound but I have heard that they do search bags at a few stations. But they are not looking for liquids, juice or anything like that. They are mainly looking for weapons and drugs. You are allowed to take food and beverages on the bus.

      @fundyourlifestyle  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Usually the Greyhound employees will start forming the lines for your bus around 15 to 30 mins before the bus is ready to board. Once you've got your ticket you can go stand in line behind the door your bus will be boarding from. (if you are unsure of the right door just ask the ticket agent of any other employee.) . Once the bus and driver are ready for passengers to board 'first boarding call' will be announced for that route over the PA system.
      The line of passengers will start exiting the building and heading toward the bus. The driver will stand typically right by the door of the bus and check your ticket before you get on the bus. This is also when you will drop off your checked bags to be put under the bus. After the driver confirms you are getting on the right bus you can board the bus and find a seat.

      Thanks! No, I've never seen anyone bring a bike on Greyhound. I suppose it could be considered a checked bag but I'm not sure. I think the awkward size would be the issue.

    Thank you for this!! Is the boarding # at the top right of the ticket the number of boardings before yours?

    • @fundyourlifestyle
      @fundyourlifestyle  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Sharetta Walker Some of the greyhound stations will board you according to boarding number, for instance they will let all passengers with numbers 1-25 board first then passengers with #25-50 and so on. Alot of the stations don't board using boarding numbers but some do. I've found that the earlier you buy your ticket the lower your number will be. I usually book my ticket at least a month in advance so I'm usually #1 or #2. It's helped me to find a good seat on crowded buses on occasion.

    I purchased a bus ticket from Ukiah, CA to Los Angeles on May 8, 2017. A friend dropped me off at the small open bus stop at 1:15. The bus was due to arrive at 1:35. It never showed. I waited three hours. According to their "bus tracker" the bus simply drove by the town of Ukiah without stopping to pick up me and the four other passengers.
    I then had to make all my own arrangements to get home including renting a car and staying a night in a hotel.
    When I called Greyhound's customer service center I received the standard corporate runaround and was placed on hold twice for more than fifteen minutes only to be mysteriously disconnected.
    I left messages at the corporate headquarters, the calls were never returned.
    I spoke to a director Mark (1496) who informed me this kind of thing happens so often there is a corporate procedure to handle the complaint should a customer have the audacity to make one. There is no corporate procedure in place to handle the circumstances should a paid customer be stranded in a potentially dangerous situation.
    I can not believe the complete lack of ethics by Greyhound that they would take money, not provide the service, and then refuse to even give the money back. Shame on Greyhound for its corporate greedy arrogance.

      @fundyourlifestyle  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately yours is not a isolated incident. I've heard the same story from other passengers who were totally forgotten and had to make their own arrangements. And they got the same treatment when they called customer service. It's not good business on Greyhound's part and it's bordering on illegal when they refuse to give you your money back. I'm a big fan of Greyhound but when they do things like this it really gets to me. My only advice is to keep pestering them and maybe, maybe one day you will get your refund. And maybe one day Greyhound will change it's ways.

    • @misterwbb
      @misterwbb 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Dana Potter Its usually pretty easy to find out where the bus you are transferring is departing from. Sometimes the bus driver on the bus you are leaving will tell you what door you need to go to to find your next bus. They also announce all out going buses over the intercom. Some greyhound stations are better about this than others, so if you miss any announcements over the intercom you can ask the people at the ticket counter and they will tell you where you need to go to catch your next bus. My last Greyhound ride had like 6 transfers and I had no problems

    Thank you for your helpful tips. I'm traveling alone tomorrow. When I was buying my ticket online yesterday, it said I can go to near by store and pay with cash. So I went to near by 7 Eleven and they only gave me a paper receipt. And I'm bit confused, so is that my ticket?

    • @fundyourlifestyle
      @fundyourlifestyle  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I looked into your question and everything I've read says that the receipt they give you at the 7 Eleven acts as your bus ticket.

      They ask for ID when you are picking up your ticket or checking your luggage. If you are near the borders sometimes you may have to show ID to prove you are a citizen.

    • @fundyourlifestyle
      @fundyourlifestyle  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      No I've never traveled with a suit on Greyhound. I would imagine the best way to do it would be in a suitcase that would be checked. I think it would get messed up if you traveled with it in a carry on.

      Someone else can buy a ticket for you online or at the station. But Greyhound charges a $18 non-refundable fee in addition to the ticket price if the person buying the ticket is not going to be the one travelling.

    • @burnerpeach80

      To avoid the fee you could make a transfer through paypal so he could be paying for you, but you'd be the one to order it.

      +trina todd I wouldn't be worried, as long as you take precautions and look out for yourself and your belongings. Bad things happen on the Greyhound (and in life in general) when people let their guard down. Just stay vigilant and try to find some decent people to ride with and you shouldn't have any problems

      +trina todd I rode the bus plenty in the 80s back then they smoked on the bus. I think riding the bus can be fun but things you never do on the bus. Discuss money or let others see your money. If you are carrying money go to the bathroom lock the door behind you and take out what you need for that purchase. There are not really a lot of poor people on the bus but there are a lot of bums. People want to hustle you for small change and it adds up, dollar here fifty cents they hustle you all the time if you let them.
      If the bus stops for a break don't leave your stuff on the bus I had the bus leave without me and because I had stuff on the bus I had to take a cab to the next town that cost me plenty too. All my spending money was gone because of that bus driver leaving early. I paid close attention to that watch too.
      One time we left for Dallas from Houston and a hobo took off his shoes. He stunk up the entire bus it was so nasty that dude had some serious trench foot.
      I like to ride the bus but I own a Prius I get along cheaper driving the Prius and I have a place to sleep each night in the car? It literally is more affordable to drive my car. Might as well I already pay insurance.

      +aaron gall The bus services all parts of the USA. When I was out West in the 90s the bus was full of what I PRESUMED to be illegals. I did not ask for papers and really could care less but the thing was if you were on the bus you could BANK of getting a delay one town to another because there were so many travelers. Every seat was taken on the West Coast going East. IDK what the ride was like going North.
      You must understand what happened yesterday will not be the same today let alone years. Time/life is like a moving stream you pick up your finger and dip it down immediately and you will not touch the same water it is constantly flowing constantly moving. Some jerk here today might catch a charge and be in the jail the next day.
      You just have to use your head when you travel don't appear to have means. Best to have luggage that looks like it has been used or donated to you. IF you have that appearance you should blend in. The great thing about the bus is the ride is good I have hitchhiked around USA and I can tell you ANY bus seat is way better than catching rides from strangers.
      When I hitched each car you got in had one of 3 types people . They were outlaws always high or drunk and you got high or drunk with them, the Jesus freaks that give you a ride to get their preaching coupon stamped, of the sexual predators male or females that want to F 24/7.
