Greenland was named greenland beacuse it had lot of vegetation back then.

When the Vikings first settle to Greenland, it was covered in ice like it is today, but they named it Greenland to attract settlers.
And about Iceland, the settlers only stayed there in summer, but despite the season, it still snows, hence the name.

I actually know the reason why Iceland was named Iceland and vise versa. It’s because the Vikings wanted to use reverse psychology so people would not want to go to “Iceland” cuz it’s ice and Greenland is “green”

Iceland: They liked it so much so they called it Iceland so people would fear it so the could keep for themselves.
Greenland: They liked it there and didn't think it was called so they named it Greenland.

In the year 982 AD, a leader of the Vikings (Eric The Red) found a very green land so he (Eric the red) named the land "Greenland".
