    I had the chance to see “Stalker” and loved the cinematography of it. Tarkovsky, both on movie film and Polaroid, had a unique vision that was ahead of its time. As a Polaroid shooter, I am glad you gave us the opportunity to see Tarkovsky’s images. Thanks for sharing Tatiana!

    This is a blast from the past. There was a time when polaroids were more popular than cell phone photography. People use them capture their time at some picnic, a day at the beach or road trip. Professional photographers who use medium format or view cameras, had polaroid backs to preview them for the correct exposure, then made their corrections before inserting film holder into the camera. Mr. Tarkovsky's film clips are exceptional, he was incredible visual artist both with film and his polaroids. I wonder what his work would have been like today. Keep up the fine work.

    There’s something about the photos of film-makers. The altered colours of the Polaroids definitely add to the mood of the photos but light and composition and the intimate nature of the subjects, whether they are of inanimate or living subjects, often lift them above being ordinary snapshots. I think smartphones are great for this way of capturing life as it happens. Probably people think that digital is too clinically perfect to have the same resonance but i think it depends on your approach and intention. Or maybe just use a filter lol.

    Been waiting for this one as I knew it eventually had to come. Superb work, my friend! Lovely presentation and selected images. Tonino Guerra once said, “Tarkovsky thought a lot about the “flight” of time and wanted to do only one thing: to stop it - even if only for a moment, on the pictures of a Polaroid camera.” I think you expanded on this really nicely.

    Great video! Stalker is one of my all time favorites (as is the recent Alex Garland movie Annihilation that was surely inspired by it) and I'll have to get my hands on this book at some point. Isn't it ironic that he was able to capture these timeless and universal images with such "instant" technology? He surely could have shot these with pretty much any camera and they would have been gorgeous, that's the mark of a true artist. The two portraits of his dog Dak are my favorites, as they contain elements that I strive for in my photos: gorgeous light, a hazy soft look, stellar composition, minimalism, and a subdued, monochromatic color palette. Very inspiring!

    • @TatianaHopper
      @TatianaHopper  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's what I mean, the irony of the timelessness being captured with something so instant and immediate! My all time favourite of his would probably be Andrei Rublev because it touches so much about the art of seeing, the important of spirituality but certainly Stalker is probably second or third in my list :)

    You mention that he's seeing things for the last time but I'm not sure the audience knows why that he is. Nonetheless, and even though we get only a quick glimpse of a small selection of this work, we get a feeling of sadness, perhaps even of resignation. Realizing that we can never step into the same river again, we all may benefit from looking at subjects as though seeing them for the last time. Finally, It is a little bit ironic - this notion of saving a moment of time with Polaroid. Thanks for sharing this. (P.S. you may want to pin your comment about the give-away so that it stays at the top).

      Hey Brad thank you for watching! I showed my best friend; back then; how to use a Poloriod. They are great cameras for kids. Instant picture for them, and it teaches them to slow down and compose the picture. Ansel Adams used Poloriod backs to check his exposure settings.

    The default "instant" camera is now your cell phone. What is the biggest difference between the two? The ability to share the old instant with those who are in immediate physical proximity to you straight away, verses being able to share a digital image with anyone, limited only to your social media reach? To what degree does that difference inform the images you are capturing? Are the images captured by the old instant naturally more personal?
    I was resisting this video because I was wondering about what Tarkovsky might have thought about having these images shared, but it sucked me in anyway. The only thing that broke the spell was the shift (albeit seamless) to the sponsored ad. 😅 Pretty cool promotion though.

    • @TatianaHopper

    I find myself wondering whether the Polaroid format and its aura of "instant photography" adds to the sense that what is/was captured are "instants" in time--if that's not being too clever. Digital photography is "instant" too, of course, but it doesn't seem to have the same feel, does it?

    • @TatianaHopper

    Your show has become my favorite show. Photography has become; one of the few things I'm interested in becoming better at. My resent struggle; has been building more depth in my pictures; with highlight detail, shapes, textures, shadows, and the shading of objects. Right it's the resulting feeling; that's be most important result. Count Baise said that writing jazz music; was like patche work. So many of the best things are. They didn't have an ending for the movie Casa Blanca; while they were filming it. In another movie; The Man That Fell To Earth; The alien tells the press; that he's getting rid of the computers, and replacing them with people. He says; because people make mistakes; and mistakes are where some of the best ideas come from. To me the best pictures that I get; are when I can pull a few interesting random things together; somehow. Then see what happens. Sorry just thinking out loud.. Sometimes I get lucky, and can stitch a few good elements together. Like people, places, and objects. Your shows are good food for thought; and a great source 4 my future researching; of inspiring photographers, and film makers. Thanks alot.
