Ahhhhh yes indeed, the old Magic Number 9 trick where the answer is always 1089 except the rare occasion when it is 99. Interesting application but really not much of a book test. Not really impropmtu.

This will only work if all 3 digits in the number are DIFFERENT.. So be concious of that

I hate these "tricks" that all are mathematical manipulation. You can take any number and turn it into a number you want it to be. Once you realize this, any of these tricks that start with "now add the numbers together" or the like suddenly become incredibly lame.
