Well, well, well. Hi there! So, the Dystopia Trilogy. Scream is part 1 of the Dystopia trilogy, which is about cyber-bullying, hateful comments and people losing themselves in the (fake) online world. It is mostly showing the victim's perspective of (cyber)bullying, comparing it to a medieval witch hunt and a burning at the stake. The tree is the tree of language, and it grows black fruit for every hurtful thing people say. Note also the hand gesture, it is the devil's horns introduced by Ronnie James Dio as a symbol for metal, but it originally was a gesture in the middle ages to ward off the evil eye, tying into the witch hunt theme. I really enjoy the music, it's rock mixed with EDM. Dreamcatcher are always very creative, and they are in their own genre by this point. Boca means "mouth" in Spanish and Portuguese and has the lines "Why do you fill your precious time with hate" and "Too many angels dying now", which points to the effects those comments can have. Several Kpop idols have committed suicide in recent years, most likely because of cyber-bullying, but this is also about all the unnamed people who suffer from online bullies. A girlgroup tackling such a subject impresses the hell out of me. They literally go to war in this video and tell haters to go and shut their "Boca" in the lyrics. And the song is absolutely awesome! Who said you can't have three different musical genres in one song? Odd Eye is part 3 and the final of the Dystopia trilogy. People can get lost in the world of the Internet and social media and their online personas can take over their life. Dreamcatcher want us to use our odd eye to see through the lies (on Facebook and others) and don't be fooled by the "lies masked in sweetness". I can only recommend to keep reacting to them, they are always interesting and entertaining! And the song is a banger! In BEcause, Dreamcatcher are outdoing themselves once again. Musically, the song is a fantastic journey. There actually are "cute" parts, but there also are parts where the guitars go full metal. The variations in BEcause remind me of their previous masterpiece, Deja Vu. The bridge with SuA's slow rap and Yoohyeon's adlibs is possibly the most beautiful one they have ever done. About the meaning: According to Dami, BEcause is about love becoming obsession. And also, this is a stand-alone story. They go back to their horror roots, which I really enjoy. They noted that if you look at "BE" as a written Chinese character "悲“, that would mean "sadness". So the song title would mean "The Cause of Sadness". And that would make the lyric "because I like you" to maybe mean "the cause of sadness is I like you". The video picks up on that. JiU seems to be the puppet master here (or her doppelganger!). She is the one trapping the other members and turning them into puppets, but Gahyeon tries to escape (as you can see by her throwing off the cage right in the beginning). It seems JiU catches her again though, "because she likes her". And I didn't even touch on the references to the movie "Us" yet, there is so much going on. The lyrics are even creepier. SuA sings: "Your face turns blue, blue. Your expression is like ocean view.", hinting at strangulation due to the one being obsessed taking things way, way too far. Dreamcatcher are clearly not afraid to tackle the difficult subjects, and they do it masterfully here - again. For me, this is more than just pop, it is art.
