2:23 “Daigo with a rare mistake”
Obviously these commentators are not on the same level as the players but that was not a mistake. Daigo couldn’t afford to take any chip damage so he used the DP invincibility frames to beat whatever Valle was gonna dish out. This was actually a very smart play by Daigo.
@Umit Yasar Akturk and after 5 months still no word for his wrong comment 😂😂😂
It wasn't a mistake, it was a great idea to throw out an Anti-Air even if it was random to some people! The fact that Daigo was at Chip Damage the Shoryuken was a great decision incase he caught Alex Valle on a Jump-In, or hit one of his Sagat's long ranging Normals, it could've gotten him a Knockdown & a favorable position to still win the Fight!Invincible DP or not! The only thing it wasn't was a mistake! ✌🏼
@@vallox6430 It was a mistake, these two know each other's playstyle. Alex and Daigo go back and forth winning against each other. That year Alex beat Daigo in 3rd strike, and CvS2. Alex is smart enough not to jump in. Do you have this Japanese hero worship where you think they are only the best? Dude, give Alex some respect. In 2000 Alex was the only one to beat 4 out of the 5 ST gods of Japan at the time using Japanese sticks which the Americans were not used to using.
@@pb879 It wasn't a mistake, Alex Valle is actually one of my all-time favorites who I have the upmost respect for, I was simply implying that the "random" Uppercut was actually thought out because Daigo was at Chip to get taken out, especially against Old Sagat who is notoriously broken, the only mistake here would've been to just stand there & get hit, getting KO'd. So yeah why not go for an Uppercut & get a hit/Knockdown + Oki?..... but thanks for the History lesson though................................
I thought it was pretty clear Daigo just threw out the random DP hoping to catch Sagat doing a fireball. Any block or damage taken at that point was a KO.
Announcers showed little professionalism with that insult and their demeanor. This isn't the first time the announcers have verbally shown their preference for one side over the other. This happened a lot with Wong and Choi.
Mr. Wizard needs to find some more skilled announcers, at least some that know how to celebrate the victories and losses of champions regardless of who they are or where they come from.
I agree.
Just let James Chen and Yipes commentate everything!
cheesesteakphilly replying to nine year old comment
BOOM TETRIS FOR VALLE
This was before the age of political correctness and crybabies. Nowadays announcers are little granny nannies.
@@StreetFighter2010 What you call politically correct, has a name. It's called integrity. Apparently, what you call crying, I call class.
I love how sirlin just stops talking, like he's embarrased to be announcing with this guy.
These are two good matches. Two of the best Street Fighter players in the world going at it. Some good speech from the commentators.
ruu and saggit
@kmden Rt Nope, it pronounced ree-you
Gotta love that it is the PS2 version
0:31 the crowd goes "ooooohhhh:" at the damage
how does the number not turn blue
Capcom is shit
Shit damage
"Daigo is out of there. No money for you buddy"
That "annoying" guy is Chris Li. He gives out the medals for Top 8 at Evo, and he's also the guy who said "Let's go Justin"
It's nice to know that after how many years, sagat is still over powered even in street fighter 4
Only a complete scrub would fail to see the level of skill in this match. The zoning, the mind games, the poking...
Any chimp with an hour in training mode can do combos. Pros don't eat jump-ins regularly, which is why you don't see the precious combos you speak of (part of zoning, as mentioned earlier).
Maybe the problem is SF2 itself, though. The fact you can't do much more than zone and control space...
There's no close-game neutral in SF2.
Why do they have to be a scrub? Why so negative?
2021 and still watch it! A gigantic pressure!
This is the 2nd video with Daigo that the commentators are showing some serious bias towards the other player in there commentating. Fair and balanced ppl.
When you've been playing in arcades where it's loud, it's crowded, it's full of shady people and you perform in tournaments with tons of people screaming in your face, this is hardly something that will bother you.
Hello 240p. How are you today? I'm ok... my eyes are a little blurry though. To be honest, I hope I don't see you again for a long time, ok? Take care though.
Lmao
Yep. Daigo in this throws fireballs because if Sagat gets too close, he'll punish him. Daigo's using his fireballs to stay safe and look for an opening.
man I could watch these 2 play all day
Also, this is on USA soil, so of course people are going to root and chant for the US player to defeat foreign players. Alex Valle is an OG player and a hometown favorite. You might not know but during one point and time, Alex Valle was UNTOUCHABLE.
In Alpha 2, he went to Japan and MOPPED all of the Best Japanese players in that game, literally for Free. Imagined if they recorded those matchups for us to see now right?
Valle along w/ Daigo is a 2nd Gen. SF player, both are legends.
That video never gets old.
It sure doesn't. I don't know why i am replying to a comment from 11 years ago this guy probably forgot his password.
@@Lilcousinbruva323 I'm still here!
@@JJOR64 Woah after all this time? damn
XD I always forget how OP sagat was in this game.
No, you forgot or didn't know Alex is just as good as daigo. The same could be said about John Choi. They go back and forth winning and losing to each other. Were you mad your favorite Japanese player lost? You poor guy, you.
@@pb879 I'm a little amazed you felt so strongly about responding to a 7-year-old comment. I hope you feel extra validated knowing that I, having been 11 years old when I initially made that comment, and having only played street fighter 3 times before jumping onto TH-cam, have been thoroughly put in my place and won't think about commenting so ignorantly ever again.
@@Resetable I see. I still feel great.
@@pb879 Sure wouldn't want you to lose any sleep over it.
@@Resetable My man you didn't have to respond to him but gg haha
I love his sagat!! its not like the campy sagats who shoot tigers all day. I love how he uses the tiger knee to get in close!!! im learning =]
Even if Daigo lost, he put up a helluva fight.
roo's got the fireball
Qnzdipset1 sagit better watch out
The game they're playing is Street Fighter Anniversary Edition. That's basically an attempt to culminate all of the characters and their versions throughout history. For example, World Warriors Guile is very much a different character from Super Turbo Guile. One of the main differences being that Super Turbo Guile has access to a super. O. Sagat refers to "Old Sagat"
@Engravings How is SF2 more technical than SF4? I fully understand all that is going on here in this match, and it is a far simpler game than 4.
great matches, top players, amazing level of skill.
that was so stressful, and i wasnt even playing!
these were the days
Sagat is so fast, that when he would try to jump foward, he would eat anoter life sucking tiger uppercut. Sagat is monster on that game, toppest tier ever.
"Alex Valle Technique" = legend status.
Having a technique named after him is something Daigo has yet to achieve.
Actually Umeshoryu is a thing. How many times has Alex beaten Daigo? I'm pretty sure it's 0.
@@jacobr4558 Alex has beaten many times. In fact that year he beat daigo at 3rd strike and CvS2. And has beaten many other times as well. Learn your history. Sorry you Japanese worship hero lost to a better player.
Valle left Street Fighter for a couple of years to focus on RL stuff that might explain he is not on his A-game yet but it will evently comes to this.
Anyone notice Daigo always does best at a sliver of health?
Great matches by two excellent players.
good ol OG Sagat. That tiger speed and recovery in Anniversary is ridiculous haha.
It's not OLD SAGAT!!! It is CE Sagat. Stop crying!
@@pb879 lmao 11 years ago. We know what it is sir. No one is crying it was hilarious.
why does it say daigo using st ryu, ce ryu, ce guile? all i see is st ryu
@FfantasyF No. got him mixed up with Dasrik somehow?
If I'm not mistaken, Valle beat daigo in 3s, cvs2, and this game, must've wanted revenge for 1998,
wow its hard to beleive that sagat is NERFED in sf4. i thought he was waaay overpowered until i saw this. hes so fucking strong!
"you cant afford to get hit by that uppercut thats 30 to 40% everytime" lmfao
lol its like 15
@@l750z_6 the guy was over exxagerating
Daigo has been a world-class player since...2000? He is absolutely one of the best players in the world.
Since 1998 actually. And Alex is one of the best in the world too. Alex isn't free, and neither is John Choi.
Won't be long until "Roo's got the fireball; Sagat's gonna have to be careful" becomes the new "Do a barrel roll."
Yeah but did you see the second part of that video? where he came back dominated that guy?
I guess that's why he lost? OH WAIT ! Owned.
Alex Valle is a legend since the old days. He is still a legend. I don't think I had heard of this Daigo until recently, and even then, he hasn't done much.
Alex Valle has won Evo on MANY different games and has made a name for himself for over 10+ years. I rest my case.
Cocoon CE Dictator was the best character in hyper anniversary.
Can someone explain to me the different sagats and stuff? Im super confused. After playing SF 2 i have always noticed tht Sagats moves are super powerful compared to everyone else so why wont more people use him? Like the announcer said, one kick could easily do 30 percent damage so why not jus everyone pick him?
Hyper SF2 allowed you to pick every SF2 version of a character, in this case Valle is using SF2' Champion Edition Sagat. As you noted he does massive damage and has very fast Tiger shots, not only the speed of the fireball but also how fast he throws it and recovers. Not much of a drawback but note that every version of Sagat gets countered by Dhalsim, and some people just don't like the character I guess.
Who were the two commentators again? I forgot.
David Sirlin and another I can't remember.
I believe the other commentator is Tragic.
Why is CE dictator used instead of the ST one?
CE Dictator can do jab, jab, psycho crusher trap. Or as we called back in the day flaming torpedo!
i LOVE this matchup more so than any other sf matchup. super t ryu with super vs o sag. So fucking good on my skin mmmmmmm
Chris McClellan i do not forget this match two every year i watch this
"Roo launches the super bomb!" LOL :D
@lockeezlulz who is the loud one anyway is that seth?
I see CE Ryu was used by a few people in this tournament, so which advantages does CE Ryu have over HF Ryu?
i'd say they would too when they have more arcades than fast food restaurants.
I'm in america and i want arcades back
oh, they are. all iterations of SF2 are about being what a lot of people call "cheap", since projectile recovery time is so short... but ST Ryu is a very good ST character.
@JackTR21 it's not O sagat
To add on to this, Ive also seen Daigo's miracle but seriously guys Daigo is not the only pro in Street Fighter.
The Announcer is David Sirlin. One of th ebest SF players on the planet.
1:24 Daigo uses the Tatsumaki to get over Sagat very smart skill. Shows now Daigo knows his game of HSSF2T
Did Daigo ever play the USA No.1 Evo Champion DSP? 🤣😂😁😎
My comp doesnt have sound =( Whatd he say?
So dope...it's even a SF Lore battle
@majinsupervegito
competitive DDR doesn't involve like "who can do the most steps" or "who can complete this song in the shortest period of time" etc(steps being pre-determined)
If you can complete a song there's no need for you to improve on your physical attributes(whereas such improvement is central to any sport:the more you improve(speed, strength, etc),the better)
If you're talking about DDR where people invent dance routines then it's more an artistic activity (like dancing) than gaming
John Madden is KNOWN for saying the obvious, in fact, that quote you made up is close to many of the things he actually says. "They wanna get a touchdown here..."
Damn, it seems like valle always got that dudes kryptonite
@majinsupervegito
By pass I didn't mean getting to the end of the song. There is a point where you cannot improve your score. If you get a AAA there is nothing you can do to get a AAAAAA
Furthermore, you're diverting from the subject by basing your entire arguments on DDR
You can have a press-up tournament and use the Wii to keep track of numbers, that's a sport; doesn't mean that playing the Wii competitively is to be regarded as a sport under all circumstances
Pretty sure that is also because in Japan most tournaments are you pick one character and stick with it while here you can change.
So he is just more comfortable sticking with Ryu and adapting.
why is he useing an older sagat rather than the sf2turbo hyper- sagat
Who are these commentators?
Damn some of y'all upset over commentary decades old lolololol
We all know Alex Valle is good, but we ust admit, that overpowered O.Sagat from CE helps him a lot against Daigo...
and if he wasnt on the top of the tier list it's be ryu and you'd hate him too.
we'll see wat its like when Super Street Fighter 4 comes out in the spring.
@BashOr12 because alex selected championship mode....there was no super bar in champ mode sf2
The 30-40% was basically true - he got 3 uppercuts and a low tiger; 4 hits to win a round. He was saying that more to the audience than Daigo.
The 'no money for you' comment can be received as rude but fighting game tournaments are basically a shittalking environment, so it's not egregious there. Plus, Daigo has hopped the pond and beasted for years so he's more acknowledging the fact that he's gotten free money from the USA, but not that time.
I like the part where Sagat goes "Tiger!"
They're both legends, lets not be rude.
Commentator: "no money for you buddy"
cmon can't say that to a legend like daigo and besides this street fighter version was gay
what does imfao mean¡¡?
@kkeelan Curious how you would dub "zoning" spamming or lack of skill? I would like to know that? It's not like you can "mindlessly" throwing them out. A wrongly thrown fireball can mean DIZZY with crazy consequences.
No Fireball is ever thrown without proper thought of positioning, and what it limits and forces an opponent to do and what not to do. Their are no "lack of skill" fireballs thrown at high level. Bring yourself to Evo and "spam" and see how well you do.
Actually, the truth is, their bodies are physically transported into the video game so they can play each other one on one fo' realz without any interruptions, such as temperature, environment, announcers.. it's a very complicated process, really.
@spikeyguy777 not true, ryu's hadouken has 1 to many frames faster animation. you can look this up.
The one thing that impresses me the most about daigo is that he plays so well in a matchup that isnt seen at all in japan. Considering that O.Sagat is soft banned that is.
I live in Tokyo for many years, daigo is not an ST specialist, there are stronger ST player, in 2000 at the time Alex beat 4 out of their 5 gods of ST using Japanese sticks which the Americans were not used to using. But now a days everyone uses Japanese style sticks. I don't even think the SFV kids even know what American fightstick we played during our days look like. Daigo uses Old Sagat in Japan. Also Vega(Claw) is soft banned in Japan, but Mao stil uses him. All soft banned here mean you are looked down on. That's it!
Secondly people do say I'm going do some sport or sporting activity. And a video games arcade has NEVER been called a sports club (a point which strangely enough you're avoiding) whereas every places that host some sort of sport (competitive or casual) has had the denomination of being called sports club.
@avalonkiller well then why does sagat always win the fireball wars? cuz his actual shots are faster...
so its ok if daigo can spam but not valle rite?
Pretty much, he's Japanese hero worship. Lord Daigo can't do no wrong in their eyes. Haha
generally most of the top players arent as lets say as popular as daigo because none of them have really set a defining moment. Its like in sports, no one's gonna remember who won the 22nd nba finals but everyones gonna remember the free throw line dunk that mj did during one of the slam dunk contest. does it mean mj was the best? not nessesarily, but he did do something that was far and above average. same goes for daigo he parried justin's super and came back and won from the brink of death.
1:22
ROO's GOT THE FIREBALL! GONNA HAVE TO BE CAREFUL!
The Street fighter barrel roll.
gracias por avisarme, pero tengo un problema con el msn y no puedo entrar, cualquier cosita mandame un privado. Saludos
It's called zoning and positioning people.
Sagat has always been about Tiger Shots in SF2, and nothing has changed that. Valle deployed what has made him dominant...his zoning game. It's not "spamming" its positioning. Valle positioned with Sagat to put Ryu into positions in which he is very limited, giving Sagat the edge.
It has been done since the CE days, so nothing new here. If you just see "spamming" then you don't truly understand the zoning game of Sagat and the strategy behind it.
great matches, great players
@TheApatheticGuy Do you realize that this is super turbo? In this game, and every other street fighter game EXCEPT 4, reversals are ONE FRAME. You have to hit the special on the first possible frame.
What you CANNOT do is mash the input for 30 frames and still get a reversal. I hate that shit.
Sf2 all characters were like sf5 guiles
......
Some ppl say that it was because they used console ports instead of the arcade OCB.
it's what they do, and they support anyone who throws a million fireballs, as long as it's a shoto, then it's "zoning"
that was a good match, but you think that when valle was throwing low tigers and daigo was building meter with air hurricanes, valle would've baited him by performing a low tiger, then while daigo jumped to wiff air hurricane, perform a fierce standing tiger shot, that would've got a clean hit on the air hurricane and would've put a stop to daigo gaining meter..
In Japan isn't O. Sagat soft banned? Still it was a close match.
@pcgamerjoe
mind games dont start till aftter like match 4-5 when you know what hell do if X is done and how you can counter or bait a reaction.
there where two... i don't know who the other guy is, but one of them is Sirlin.
Fuckin' yeah, the Legendary Alex Valle.
It's no wonder Daigo was outmatched, he was up against a god.
How is it noob if hes using Sagat, someone explain plis?
Not a active sport with the whole body but hands involve and mental. Same with baseball not being physical sport, a lot of patients, mental and still specific skill set sport with a ball. Same as a controller just lesser mobility but brain and eye coordination is involve then yes it would qualify as a sport like darts in a way.
how much money was on the line.
