We used to live on 100 acres and we had chickens, ducks, geese, goats, sheep and a pig once. When I was getting overwhelmed by life, or my temper would be getting the best of me, I'd go out to the chicken coop and just watch the birds. Don't know what it is, but it was just comforting.
This reminds me of of Rocky when Mick told Rocky his nose was broken and Rocky asked how’s it look And Mick told him, it was an improvement . Love you guys.
@Ruth, In order to pluralize a word, all you need to do is add an “s” at the end...there is NO apostrophe! An apostrophe is used to indicate possession; or a contraction.
Quail are so awesome to have!. We had them growing up along with chickens and rabbits. I've been a gardener for about 7 years now and I can't wait till we can start homesteading at least 50% of our own food. We are currently looking for some property and I can't wait till we can move so I can start setting it up! We are definitely investing in beekeeping too. Mike's dad and step dad, before they passed, taught him all about hunting, butchering and beekeeping so we at least have some knowledge getting into homesteading which has been a dream of mine forever and I can not wait!! Thanks so much for sharing!
Home haircuts were a regular occurrence on our homestead! With my husband and our two sons ,I can’t calculate how much we saved, even our two daughters getting trims at home saved so much! I actually enjoyed cutting my family’s hair!
We been raising quail for years, we start to hatch mid Feb because we don't have heat in our buildings then ramp up and hatch all summer and harvest and sell in the fall, just keeping dozen or so. At one point we sold 13 doz a week locally and sold to other homesteaders. They sell well a farm markets in the fall for hunters who want to train bird dogs. I know you only have a few eggs to start with but start to save the next 10 and place them in the incubator to stagger hatches we use 2 Bators a good one and cheaper one for the hatch. when it is lock down day take those eggs and place them in the second Bator. then continue hatching. Good luck. Hidden Acre Quail Farm
Quail is an excellent addition to your homestead! We raise quail, the eggs are so much healthier than chicken eggs! Plus quail eggs don't carry salmonella! Feel free to look us up on Facebook. Lots of interesting people and auctions going on all the time. (Quail and More Farms)
I have been cutting hubby's hair for 40 years, it started when we were young and poor as a way to save money but as he got older and could afford to go to the barber, he just didn't want to...he would not ask them to trim his eyebrows or nose hairs or ear hairs...he said it was too embarrassing LOL! Having someone to clip your nose hairs or shave your back is priceless hahaha!
I grew up on quail and pheasant my grandfather raised them yummy . Rich old men would pay to hunt them they where pin raised so I had to go and scare them to make them look wild lol .
The way this one began, I thought you meant 100 more days just like that. But 100 quail will be great, too. :) Thanks for a nice way to enjoy my lunch today. And I've been cutting my own hair for several years. I can't even remember if I've had a haircut someplace else this decade.
You will love it. I've been raising quail for about two years now. And I can truly say it is so addictive. The best part I've been told quail egg is 3x the vitamin of 1 chicken egg. I'm a retired hairdresser. You did great.
I have eaten quail before really good meat bird. Eggs are just as good. Seeing your lab hope up in your husband lap was too cute. And the beagle trying to get in his lap as well. Two good breed of dogs. I love how the beagle was trying to get your daughter attention. I hope the quail hatching works. God bless 💗
Yay! Thanks Kevin! I've been waiting for a quail update. Once I get my flock going, the plan is to have around 24 females and 4 males. That would definitely get us close to 100 eggs a week. We have a coop here too, where local ranchers and farmers can sell their goods. Quail eggs are not something I've seen at the store yet. So I may even be able to make a little money off this adventure. :)
BTW we had a dead tree like yours - loved it as a ''bird hotel'' - didn't think it was a falling threat - 'till waterlogged and windblown, it creamed our chicken coop - no hens hurt, but a royal pain to remove and repair.
Good morning I live in Roswell Georgia I moved here in 1984 And that was the first time I ever had the pepper vinegar And I got hooked That's a staple in the refrigerator What Is good about it is When you use all the vinegar up All you gotta do is take a knife and go in and and Poke the peppers in jar Add more vinegar The next day You got hot vinegar Really after about an hour you have hot vinegar I put that stuff on everything As that old lady said lol Now I like the red hot sauce But I love the little green peppers in vinegar Sauce On greens. Are you raising the quail for meat also quail taste real good I've had a marinated and Grilled And I've had them Fried like fried chicken . well have a great day god bless Talk to you soon 🎅
Been saving money by cutting my hair for 25 years. I learned th lesson early that te only difference between a bad hair cut and a good hair cut is two weeks!
Bye to Denver...going to Missouri Saturday 11/3 to start my new life. No internet, electricity and no stress. It's going to be cold. Good luck, enjoined your show. Guess it changed my life for the better. Are there many "Church of Christ" congregations there?
Google ''Church of Christ'' missouri ... looks like a lot of them. BTW even the self-sufficient life has its own form of stress. God bless your search. Romans 8:28
Our dog does the same thing! Loves to give real hugs, climb in our laps & give us sloppy kisses. I get a lot of eyeball kisses 😁. She’s a lab/border collie mix. Has the love & loyalty of a lab, smarts & watch dog/guarding of a border collie. Thank goodness she’s smaller than Mable 😆. Mable is just so sweet & gorgeous. Reminds me of a very special chocolate lab mix puppy we had when I was little. Looking forward to seeing the quail eggs mature/hatch. So much interesting stuff to learn from y’all! Wishing all of you a very blessed weekend.
I really enjoyed this video......the beautiful scenery, the girls getting off the bus, the hair cut, the quail eggs are unique, and most of all the view of inside your home......I love your area for your home canned goods....thank you for sharing!
looks like your doing good on quail, just thought maybe the dust bath be totally enclosed with just a opening to enter might help with clean up under cage
Beautiful scenery. We've been doing buzz cuts here for years. No using the guard. I've been known to dye my hair as well. It's a big savings. Nice to see the young ladies lending a helping hand. 👍
Oh the scenery is breath taking! Missouri tugs at our hearts. We just fell in love with it. For now it's Texas but soon very soon we'll be there. Ahhhh! Can't wait! Lol! I cut my husband's hair to and he cuts mine!
We have raised quail before. We will again maybe this next year. 😊👍 looking at getting some Mangalica pigs to raise as well. We usually raise Durocs or Hampshire’s but looking to change it up a bit and try something new. Also hoping to get my milk cow this next year 🤞lots going on this next year on my farm.
I cut the crust off some bread slices, butter bread ,put bread butter side down in a muffin pan, crack a quail egg over the bread then cover with bacon. Cook in a hot oven. There's brecky for a cool morning and the oven warms the house.
I'm deciding when to put some quail eggs in the incubator, this video has made me want to just hatch them now! Baby quails are possibly the cutest things in the whole world!!
Beautiful beautiful fall scenery the change of colors in the trees and just your views, you guys are very lucky, I'm in Florida all we have is summer summer and more summer... Lol the trees don't even change color for the most part
I started cutting my husband's hair about 2 years ago. Before that he'd go in about twice a month (his job required his hair a certain way). At $20 a visit it was adding up! At this point we've saved roughly $2000 in haircuts!!
I've been cutting my own hair for a long time. The last time I paid for a hair cut was 1988 or 1989. I was 19 or 20 back then....will be 50 come April of 2019. I am on my second or third set of clippers. I can't imagine the amount of money that I have saved over the years.....a cut a month for close to 30 years. I found your channel a few days ago and have been watching them like crazy. I love how laid back and cozy your videos feel.....you folks just feel like family.
That was a great intro, had to check if I had the right channel. I love quail. Had a family living in a shade house, 16'x24'x8' high. Sand floor, shade plants/trees and a little 45 gal pond. The male would dig a hole, bring the female over and she would approve or disapprove. When they had babies I put hardware cloth over the pond. They would fly up to roost every night about 6' high. I had one blind one and the others would guide it to the roost and to the food. Life was good.
@Donna di Lode I have to tell you the rest of the story. It's so cute. The female would jump up on my knee and get first dibs on the bugs in the food bag. She trusted me. Well, 2 years later her male died of a respiratory problem and she started to look lonely. So I let her go. She's watched the wildlife all her life and was aware of most dangers. That silly girl came back a week later with a whole crew of bob whites. It was so adorable I have to share with every one. I didn't cage them or anything. Tried to leave out food til I knew they weren't coming back.
You guys should consider doing a longer weekend vlog style video to show more of your lives. I know I would watch and I bet a lot of other people would too. It could really increase your fan base, sponsorships and revenue to expand your homestead. Ps. I’ve never had a quail egg but it looks like I would have to eat about 15 of them to have a decent breakfast! 😂
Just a little information for those raising quail according to the producers books, quail will live and lay beyond the 2nd year. My sister has some Courtinex Quail hens that over 4 years old. They seem to be the ones that are laying the largest eggs. However, the larger the eggs, the less the fertility.
Ha ha ha Kevin getting a haircut reminds me of that first haircut in boot camp at the Recruit Depot. I really should teach Marian how to cut my hair. After 2 weeks I feel like a hippie and gotta get a haircut. Good luck on the quail eggs. Oh our Silver Foxes are huge. Having a heck of a time getting them bred, but man they are huge!!!! Thanks for sharing guys!
The peaceful, quiet beauty of the opening of your video just sets the "tone" for my entire day. Lovely, thank you for sharing those quiet moments in your day. Be blessed.....
I am so excited about the hatching of the eggs, i am a sucker for pickled quail eggs and fried quail eggs over easy on biscuits, lmaooo, hope you have a wonderful day!! Hugs LeAnne from Louisiana!!
It sure is hard to figure, I've never lived in southern Missouri and only driven through a couple of times, but seeing those first few seconds opening this episode gave me an overwhelming sense of missing it; wanting to go home to the Ozarks. That sort of motivation keeps me working on my homeward path, too. ¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯ I could help but flinch when I saw the shot of Kevin's ear and those scissors headed for it!

It doesn't take long to increase your flock of quail. Thay really are great homestead anamals. It's a great way to get meat. The eggs are so tasty.
LOL. Don’t hate me because I’m beautiful. Lov’n it . Hope all goes well with the egg.
Plz, make a video about the Quail's, all about harvest them - eating them. All the best from Norway
I second this. I've enjoyed your complete how-to series and a quail one would be a good addition.

We have plans to knock it down but we think it's filled with bees. If we can catch them for a new hive, that would be great.
Great idea! I'm looking forward to the beekeeping vids. Will you place them in your orchard? Learning how to make hives?

You'll get better fertility if you house your quail in trios. Quads will work. I did that and had to buy a bigger incubator. Had an 91% hatch rate.
