  • I picked up two DPA 4097's on my last show and used them a bit and had some mixed feelings. So I decded to do my own car tests and experiment with some post processing. Here's an interesting look at the results and some of the sonic qualities of this microphone in the real world! I may have changed my mind!

Great seeing everyone here at the stream, interesting results from these DPA4097's! Great mic in some situations, looking forward to comparing to my CUBs next!

I was looking to buy this Mic for indoor interviews. I like the versatility regarding Documentaries and quick set up? I'm on the fence about it. What do you think? Or just a good supercardioid mic for indoor interviews.

@@shangohusani8250 it makes a great plant but for interview interiors I’d stick with a super cardioid 48v phantom powered short shogun mic.

I think of the 4097 as an instrument mic and the 4098 as a production sound mic. But I guess they are the same mic with different mounts? How would you protect the 4097 from car moving windows down wind noise. The 4098 is easy with a BBI windscreen.

Hi Allen, Bubblebee makes a windscreen for the 4097 And I believe Rycote has one as well.

What shotgun mic do you think we edit well with a dpa 6060? And do you think the 4097 would edit well with the 6060?

Matthew, I think as long as the lav mics are well placed matching should not be an issue, most issues in editorial arise from poorly placed lav's that sound too buried or have to much clothing noise.

@@MichaelWynneCAS I work in the independent film scene for low budgets that won't have a true sound editor. My lav placements are good but my boom mkh 8060 doesn't sound the same as my cos 11d. I'm planning to switch mics entirely.

@@matthewsmith910 I hear you, you def want to do what works for your ears. But matching booms and lav's is mostly a post process when it comes to air ( reverb ) and or EQ. Maybe experiment around a bit in a DAW and do some listening tests on your end and see what's possible? However I did always think that the MKH50's match the COS11's nicely for what it's worth.
