Love your video here. Gotta appreciate honesty and aspirations. I looked at about 130 DP in person and an additional doing the virtual tours. So disappointed in that I was looking for the large rear bathroom and a decent sized front bathroom and king bed. So the frustration was enough to cancel me. The deciding factor was a pusher being sold ..thinking it was in Peoria Az and it was in Utah!! I remembered seeing this new addition and called the consignment lot. They said come over..it was 4 miles away. They just hit it in the night before so they knew nothing about it. I’ve been full timing since 2010 and after seeing it I knew it was mine. 2009 Monaco Yorkshire IV. It was right as Monaco was being sold and it was one of the last coaches they built at the Monaco plant in Oregon. No Frankenstein piece mailing together. With 61k on it I took it to Chandler Freightliner. They did the M-3 servicing and Generator too. Two lead mechanics were responsible for the work. They both said this rig was in exceptional shape. For me.. I made the correct choice as I was looking hard for particulars not found elsewhere. It had tie rod ends replaced, a brake reservoir replaced and a full alignment completed also. I added new tires with sales price reduced and aqua hot checked and serviced as it has radiant floor heat……… another must living in Montana part time. You are so spot on ..get the things you require to make you comfortable because it’s your home. I am still learning the system as the consignment folks did not know anything. They got it the night before, I show up the next afternoon before it hit the pages and available to show. I go through..under and on the roof.. done! I’ll continue to follow your adventures. Thank you

Just bought a Tiffin Allegro Red Open Road and my wife and I love it so far. I have owned RVs in the past this is my first class A and I really love how well it is made. Also, quick note Tiffin Customer Service is the best! Already have contacted Tiffin for questions about the coach and I was immediately connected with a service person where my questions were answered.

Great channel! Just purchased an older Coachmen Santara for our first RV. Did the research on what to look for and I don't think you find many older rv's in this shape, stored under cover, many updates, no sign of water damage or delamination. Decided to go with the older rv because of cost, we're anticipating taking 2-3 trips a year to explore different areas of the country for retirement for the next 6-8 years. Not 100% sure this is the lifestyle or type of rig we'll end up with in the end.

Enjoyed the very informative video and was delighted to hear Newmar in the top 2. Out choice came down to the Newmar Ventana LE or the Tiffen RED. The Tiffen appeared to offer more coach for the money but we chose the Ventana LE because of the star foundation and wall construction. We thought this would stand up better in the long run. We ordered ours new from the factory and saved thousands by limiting options to those we knew we would use. Coaches on dealers lots are typically ordered loaded adding $ to the price. We agree that those fancy options are just a liability in the long run, the model we chose is their entry level diesel pusher with just the basics like we like them.

@@FreedomTours - we paid about $188,000 for a 2018. I didn't mention it earlier but ordering one puts you in a stronger bargaining position because the dealer knows they will get their money as soon as the coach is delivered with no carrying costs for them.

  • @jeandecker4073
    @jeandecker4073 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

One major benefit I my opinion for choosing a Tiffin over a Newmar is that Newmar uses those awning style windows that do not open very far and for someone like myself that has weak wrists, are very hard to open. Why frameless windows are so popular in RVs is a mystery to me. An RV should feel like a home, with Windows that let a lot of fresh air in. Most homes don’t have little roll out windows Just my two cents. Thanks for sharing your thoughts

We have the Blue Pearl. A 1993 Winnebago Vectra 35RQ (our third motorhome). 2nd Generation 5.9 Cummins (considered one of the most reliable engines ever built), Allison 6sp MD3060 Tranny (considered almost bullet proof), Spartan Chassis (designed for emergency vehicles not trucks). Not for the faint of heart but they don't build them like this anymore. I have a laundry list of things to fix or upgrade but we love this old beast. We have found that if you want to RV you have to have at least one of two things, a lot of money or the ability to fix anything. We don't have a lot of money but I was lucky enough to have the super power of being able to fix anything.
We always go for simplicity so we decided no slides. If there is a way to do it mechanically that works just as well, go for that. Maintenance, maintenance, maintenance.
Thanks for the video and Happy RVing.

Hello from Canada. Thank you for your insight. I too am partial to Newmar, I think they are not so much a French suit unless you are buying luxury diesel. I love that they are hand built. I have seen the factory as well. A nice tour. We are about 3 years from retirement, and are thinking of going on the road for perhaps 7 months of the year. We currently have a 35 ft gas class A that I have slaved over. However, it is a 2000 and it will be too old to be reliable for more living by then. If the piggy bank is big enough we were looking at the Newmar Canyon Star 3924 which has that super patio at the back or The Ventana LE 4048 which has a very nice mid ship bathroom. I thought of the V LE because it is diesel and can carry much more an all of that, but it still has a gas water heater and all the comparatively simple stuff. However, the costs of maintenance on the air brakes and air bags and all of that terrifies me. The Canyon Star is on a Super F-53 rated at 26,000 lbs, I worry about carrying capacity on such a coach. I also wonder about upgrading the suspension and all of that. We are probably going to stick with whatever coach we buy until the end as we cannot afford the depreciation hit if we traded. Your thoughts at your convenience would be appreciated. Travel Safe. Henri

When buying a coach go into it with your eyes wide open. We bought a older motorhome (2003 Newmar) knowing that we would have to replace all the appliances. The upside is that we will have much more coach than if we had bought newer. Lots of ways to do this. Do your research know what your getting yourself into.

Love the video, what you are doing and that you are trying to get your kids to do the same.
I am in early stages of research and a typical full timer as I work and travel. I understand you say don’t buy something older yet I can’t yet afford what I want and don’t want to invest in a tag or something else that I can pushing out the timeframe of getting what I really want if that makes sense.
A friend of a friend has a 2000 Winnibago ultimate freedom just under 100k diesel pusher in great shape well maintained for 37k
what I would like and can get now.
Curious what your thoughts are on this Winnebago model and buyer older in this scenario
    Thank you in advance all.

I have driven big trucks for 11 years now and I have seen trucks with a million miles on them with the engines still running strong. As long as you follow the PM schedules the engine will last longer than the RV.
Most people have never had a vehicle with air brakes. If you decide on an RV with air brakes I highly suggest you do research on how to maintain and operate them. They are vastly different than the brakes you would be used to in a car. With car brakes when you press the pedal the brakes react immediately but with air brakes there is a slight delay. You have to account for that delay when deciding to brake or you will likely hit something. Also you need to periodically check the system to insure it doesn't have serious air leaks. A leaky connection or line can cause your brakes to lock up at highway speed. When the air system pressure drops below a set amount (usually between 40-60 psi) then the air brake valve will set automatically which will immediately lock up the rear brakes.

Just curious why people figure that paper plates take up less room than regular ones. The biggest issue with older DP is not the mechanical itself. The parts like seals, Aquahot heating, hydraulics, roof tops, windows and such also need serviced regularly. We opted for new, but did negotiate the price down. 25% off MSRP is normal. The interest rates are a lot higher for used RVs.

Good video on what to look for in buying the RV, but Seller market?? Only if you let them take you that route. Think of sales man as a used car sales person. Don't let them run the negotiations, you are KingCash, you don't need them. There are lots of other RVs, you should be able to take price down by at least 15% and I'd start offering 25 to 30% less. As for older RVs, just depends on how well you can do things for yourself. If you are mechanically inclined, changing out old hose, changing oil or replacing microwaves, stioves (...) then a 2005 to 2010 is probably a great buy if its a good RV, like a Newmar.

The high end coachs between 2000 and 2008. High Quality, Pre DEF which is a big deal. Look at the older Country coaches, Foretravels, pervosts, Newell. They last a long long time. Our Monaco has all hand built cabinetry and woodwork by Amish. Despite its age it drives better then any gas coach.

? duel axle vs single. 40'-45'. for full timers?

    • @FreedomTours

the duel axel allows for more stability for longer rigs. If your rig is 40' or more you should probably go with duel. Many people choose a smaller rig for the mobility of the design.

Neither Tiffin nor Newmar have a true couples floor plan.
I have only, so far, found the Damon 4055 and 4056, Also, the Winnebago Vectra 40AD to have our floor plan. I can't stand the opposing sofas with the TV above the cockpit or in the middle of the coach. Just 1 sofa with the TV directly across from it. Why is this so hard to do? Also, I do not want to spend over $100k on a motorhome.
    Thanks for the info though.

Steve Walker I so appreciate your taking the time to leave a comment... however, I couldn’t disagree more. A Damon is a Tuscany which is a Thor product... Thor is getting better for sure but it’s NOWHERE near the quality of Newmar, Tiffin or Entegra. I do agree with you as far as comfort goes.. I don’t like opposing coaches.
