    I need a bit more practice putting the net on and off before I go making videos about it so that is why I didn't show it. For now, I could at least share my experience with it.
    When you add shipping, a 50x50 will run about $100. Expensive, but my various trees ripen at different times so I can use it more than once a season so it's worth it to me. I recommend getting one with holes no bigger than 3/4". You may see cheaper ones sold but they usually have huge holes and won't keep small birds out.
    Commercial Grade Heavy Anti Bird Netting ¾” Black Mesh, 50ft x 50ft
    Flexible, highly tear-resistant
    ¾ inch mesh, 50 foot x 50 foot net
    Treated for extended UV life
    This is the one I bought 3/4" - 50'x50'→ amzn.to/2s8yTZw

    I really like how long the netting is on the bottom half it keeps the birds from flying in under the netting to get to the fruits. Way to go .

    The reason fruit trees are grafted is to get a particular type of fruit, generally an improvement over the root variety in taste and quality; putting dirt over the grafted area means you will lose that. Besides, do you really want to struggle netting a full-size tree? A full-size tree right next to the house dumps leaves, twigs, and branches on roof; a full-size _fruit_ tree dumps leaves, twigs, branches, and rotting fruit on roof.

    I’m blown away that you got this tree from Costco and made it grow so tall - not 100 % sure how you did it, if you don’t mind clarifying. Also, question I can’t find an answer to - Is it detrimental to the growth of a fruit tree if you cover it with bird netting too early in its growth? I have a few fruit trees that are just starting to produce fruit, which are tiny at this stage yet I already see a critter has taken bites out of several tiny fruits. I covered those trees with netting but wonder if it will impede full development of the fruit. Any insight?

    Would this work against squirrels? Obviously squirrels can chew through it but would they do so and risk getting trapped

    Well folks, trees create sweets fruits as treat for birds for spreading their seeds, it billions of years of evolution in order to survive. Trees figured out , only wind could not do the job. Then the human liked the fruits and decided be in partship with feathered animals, you can still share some with them. I put bags on the best fruits and let the crocked for them. You also can put bird feed around in order them meet their needs.

    3rd year in (video date says 2017) so how is your netting holding up? I need to get a couple as birds are taking out all my fruit, figs, apples, peaches etc. thanks.

      DJ Chiesa it’s ok. A few holes but it may be my fault. My problem now with the cherries is the worms. I don’t want to spray. I may remove the tree and plant another nectarine.

    That netting is awesome. I have to be honest though, I felt bad for the birds starting at 1:45. They were still scoping out your smorgasbord you had growing on your property.

    Do you take off the net when you don’t have any fruit that’s getting ripe or is ripe?

    • @AdamDIY
      @AdamDIY  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. If you leave it on the tree will start growing through the holes.

    I have tried netting before and ended up with a few dead birds each time. They get snagged and end up dying.

    • @AdamDIY
      @AdamDIY  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      What type of bird was it? I have mainly house finches and robins around here and they don't get snagged.

    How do I keep squirrels away from my peach trees?

    • @shubeedoo
      @shubeedoo 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Take a large smooth circular disk, (something similar to a five gallon paint cover, the larger the disk the better). Cut a hole in the center and a narrow slot, to fit around the diameter of the main tree trunk. Place it around the main tree trunk at about five feet from ground level. The squirrel will not be able to climb further than the level of the disk; and if your disk is large enough and has a smooth surface, he will not be able to climb over it either.

    LoL .22 Cal pellet gun would work as well just as quiet and when birds start noticing you don’t come back for a visit at that location…problem solved worked for me 😉

    • @AdamDIY

      I used pvc sprinkler pipes with cut tennis balls shoved on the end. It takes a big ladder and time. Especially difficult on larger trees.
