Meg, to make life easier on yourself, here's how the controls should be mapped : Consider the 4 face button of your controller as the 4 cardinal points of a human body (the aforementioned "puppeteering concept"). So, head is triangle, left hand is square, right hand is circle, and legs are X. Do this, and it'll match up with your HUD quite nicely.
Totally agree here. It might make playing just a bit easier. Also, the high profile button should be R1, locking on L1. Selecting weapons should be the d-pad.
The buttons are supposed to line up with the layout of the actions in the top right. If your assassinate is the circle button, that should be switched to square
It is time! There are unfortunately no subtitles as you may have found out. Also the game does not directly state it but Altair’s time is 1191 during the Third Crusade in the Middle East (then known as the Holy Land to the Crusaders). This was the third attempt by Western European Christianity to reconquer Jerusalem after it was captured by Saladin (a few people mention his name). I won’t say too much more because I feel that would be spoilers but feel free to Wikipedia it if you want to know more about the historical context. Really hyped for this one! 🙌🙌
Don't mean to be pedantic but the Third Crusade was technically the second attempt for Jerusalem overall, and the first after it's recapture by Salah al Din. Just found your channel today and already loving your content!! Those 3 minutes of trying to do that leap of faith were so hilarious Subscribed and ready to binge 👍
i'm so excited that you started assassin's creed, meg! i can't wait to watch more reactions. a fun little fact for you : the voice actor for al mualim ( the leader of your assassin group in the black and red robe ) is the same person who voices duncan from dragon age : origins!
Fun Fact: The Historical Assassin Order was actually more of a quasi-nation that held territory with multiple fortifications (namely Alamut and Masyaf castles) and the assassins themselves ran the gamut of jobs from makers, herders, clerks, etc etc. Most assassins weren't responsible for killings. That said, they didn't really have a military so instead they had a unit type that is most remembered as "assassins" from within the order. They were a group of disciples known internally as "Fida'iyin" (sp) meaning those who sacrifice and externally as "Hashshashin" possibly derived from the hashish that was common to be smoked at the time within many cultures but noted by the Assassins (although there are many possible reasons they became known as Assassins). The big reason the term assassin became so synonymous was likely because the military tactics caried out by the order and enacted by the fida'iyin meant that their operations could be carried out on a greater number of their political enemies over a greater area. Generally their tactics were discreet infiltration and importantly: Public Elimination (The assassinations needed to be public so that the threat was made i assume?). The targets were high profile members of enemy states too. I couldn't find a "Creed" as it were, so I assume the game extrapolated it based on the Typical Assassin modus operandi: Targeted individuals, discreet infiltration, public assassination, And targeted individuals often were the ones causing the most harm to public and the most likely to be a threat to the Assassins. That said, it is rumored that the last words of the first leader of the Assassins (Hassan i-Sabbah) was "Nothing is True; Everything is Permitted" so there may be something historical to that... but I can only find that coming from a book called "Alamut" from 1938 so take that with a grain of salt. Anyways, thought I'd give some historical fun facts ^.^
Lucy (the assistant in the lab) reminds you of Kristen Bell because SHE IS voiced by Kristen Bell :) Desmond is voiced by Nolan North, who voices Nathan Drake in Uncharted, by the way.
This is also the one AC game I revisit and play every now and then because of the crusades time period, the combat, the music and the ability to kill civilians after you completed the story. It's usually a lot of fun messing around.
There's a reason AC has lasted this long and continues to produce more games. Cuz people enjoy them. Ik there's some that didn't care for the more recent ones, but I like the idea of seeing how the assassins and templars started and the cultures that were influenced from it.
Aaaaahhhhhh! I'm very happy to watch you play these games. It's taken me an entire year to play through them (took breaks) to get to Odyssey It's been one hell of a ride. You'll have so much fun.... and tears
The animation in this game was such a landmark at the time. Ironically enough, it is something the more recent ACs have been lacking. Hopefully AC: Enchilada or whatever it's called will honor the detail and stealth roots.
Glad you love AC1. This game deserves all the love for it started one of the greatest video game franchises of All Time. Altair is a Mount Echelon Assassin. Altair and Ezio.
Just found your channel recently through the Dragon Age videos! Assassin's Creed is my favorite series; I'm looking forward to seeing your journey through the games! It's a long and crazy road, but one well-worth the time. Have fun!
Honestly, such an incredible concept for a video game. Whenever player screws up and/or does something the character wouldn't do, then it simply didn't actually happen. An animus memory glitch.
AC was so many current historians' and teachers' gateway drug into history. Myself included. Granted, it's a science fiction story at its base, but you meet so many important historical figures, and each one deserves their own rabbit hole.
I have enjoyed the video. You did great. In the first game there no subtitles, controls are a mess, and map markers are confusing. I made notes on controls too btw. There is even one flag, which you may not be able to get without turning v-sync on in options. The game can be stressful because of that, but I think that makes it more rewarding. AC1 not only started the whole series, but its mechanics inspired so many other games. Looking forward to your next video.
Thus begins one of the most convoluted, contradictory, but fascinating series in gaming. Love it to bits all the same though, happy to be here for your beginning :3
It's really refreshing seeing someone going in completely blind. Not even knowing the duel storylines. Be ready for one hell of a ride. 1:25:16 I was NOT expecting the game to glitch out like that.
The assassins and Templars also did exist irl. The assassins comes from the Arabic word: Hashashin: which is “those who stand out from society.” The Hashashin brotherhood (as well as the order of the Knight’s Templar), was founded during the Crusades in the Holy land, the OG Assassin’s Creed takes place during the 3rd Crusade.

For the first few games just know that on PC it doesn't tell you the buttons on your specific controller, but it's based on the xbox controller layout.
I giggled like a little kid when you said "Desmond?" in the opening segment. AC1 is my favorite in the series and the most important piece of advice it would be: After you do investigation missions, hit "ESC" or whatever it is on the controller to pull up the menu and read the memory logs, they provide info on the big assassination mission such as escape routes, guard spots, etc. Also small story spotlight. Desmond says he's not part of the Assassins anymore aka he left. And Altair, broke all the tenets of the creed so he also figuratively left the Assassins. Cool story parallel.
What's this? Someone playing the AC series? Damn, I have to watch this. Glad to see you're playing them in order too, not jumping in randomly like some people do, and then complain they don't understand the story. It's amazing seeing someone not know about the modern day. That's like the most well-known aspect of the series these days.
I didn't remember Desmond Miles was Nathan Drake! It has been so long since I played this game! Looking forward to the series. It'll be easier if you match up the diamond-shaped buttons displayed on the top right of the screen to match the diamond-shaped triangle-square-x-circle buttons on the controller. Also, the it'll be easier for the future games if you make the high profile action button as "R2" instead of "R1". Looking forward to the chaos!!
Very excited for this series! You can synchronize from on the beams, looks cooler. There are no subtitles. You can use sprint (gallop, on horse), helps you get by faster. You can also blend from on the horse, and don't have to get down to pass through the suspicious guards. The symbols on the map weren't showing you up or down, it's just the icons. You can check those out by clicking on legends in map. Also Abstergo aren't the Assassins as indicated by the dialogues: "We know who you are, don't play coy with me; [escaping from the assassins] made our job easier to kidnap you, etc". I'd also recommend you read the books based on these games, but not right now, because the order of the books is a little different. But the books are important in a sense because they contain a lot of extra background information. The book starts from AC2, and after AC revelations is AC1. So don't read AC1 now, because spoilers. But I do think the books are also important for the lore. Anyway, I'll stop here before I spoil. Hope you enjoy the journey!
Yes!! It’s finally I can’t wait to watch go through the same journey I went through, I’m typing this comment before I watch this video so I can’t wait to see your first reaction to the game, some of the questions you had during your reaction to the cinematic trailers will be answered in this game.
Most definitely, AC 1 is a learning curve, and I wished to god that the rumors of it being remade or remastered were true, but it is still a fun game with lots of story and history, and I hope you enjoy the series as much as I do. With how much work that has gone into the game, how much content there is, it would not surprise me if you were doing Assassin's Creed content for the next year or 2. :)

I just love watching people play this game, it’s a big eye opener
Just found your channel today and already loving your content!! Those 3 minutes of trying to do that leap of faith were so hilarious
Subscribed and ready to binge 👍
Each new game you play is one banger after the other. I'm so happy I found your channel :D
i'm so excited that you started assassin's creed, meg! i can't wait to watch more reactions. a fun little fact for you : the voice actor for al mualim ( the leader of your assassin group in the black and red robe ) is the same person who voices duncan from dragon age : origins!
I'm so excited for you to pick up this series!! You're in for a ride!
This is so far the funniest way I've seen someone play Assassin's Creed. Laughed so hard watching this. You're awesome and I'm already a fan 😂👌
This is also the one AC game I revisit and play every now and then because of the crusades time period, the combat, the music and the ability to kill civilians after you completed the story. It's usually a lot of fun messing around.
Yes finally. This is so awesome. Especially the fact that you start from beginning in right order. Thank you for this.
There's a reason AC has lasted this long and continues to produce more games. Cuz people enjoy them. Ik there's some that didn't care for the more recent ones, but I like the idea of seeing how the assassins and templars started and the cultures that were influenced from it.
Awesome video! I am very excited to see you play Assassins Creed 1! Assassin's Creed 1 is my favourite Assassin's Creed game!
Assassin's creed 2 and the subsequent sequels it has (based around the PC Ezio) are some of the best because it shows his entire life
Just found your channel recently through the Dragon Age videos!
I’m brand new here and I’m honestly so happy I found you, I love assassins creed and i basically never see people playing it on here!
This is going to be a great journey! I'm so hyped for this!
The journey begins 😁
I originally played this in 2007 and still have it great series
Welcome Meg to the family to one of the most complicated lore of the whole video gaming history enjoy the ride too come
AC was so many current historians' and teachers' gateway drug into history.
Stoked for you. My first look at this on ps3 when I was like 14 had me enthralled.
So excited! I'm watching this right after watching your Arkham Origins finale and I can't wait for you to go through AC II and the rest.
Glad too see people still play these amazing games after all the years. I've finished AC1 to AC4 about 5 times now each 😂
Just a tip: the game is made to be played in 60fps, and anything above will mess up the physics, such as the leap of faith and all the cloth flapping
I was waiting for this series for few weeks now, I'm following you on your journey
You playing The Assassins Creed series and the rest of the Arkham content has me so hyped
Your in for a long wild ride the games are so fun and have amazing stories, but no spoilers, just do them in order :)
That glitch caught me so off guard🤣
Lessgoo meg, I am soo much excited to see you playing assasins creed😭🤩. You are gonna love this part and the further ones which you are gonna play. Always wanted a see someone play assasins creed!!!! Looking forward to your AC playthroughs!
Ahhh damn the good old days since I was 11 years old 💓 ... during mirage reveal you were saying i'm happy for you guys (AC Fans) multiple times now it's us welcome to the brotherhood megan and here is to the your long interesting journey ahead of playing all the series till mirage is out lessgooo!!! 🙌🔥
For the first few games just know that on PC it doesn't tell you the buttons on your specific controller, but it's based on the xbox controller layout.
still can't go over the fact that desmond ancestors hail all tge way from syria, what along way, but they had few centuries to arrive i guess 😂
Assassin's Creed... My favorite videogame franchise of all time. It'll be a blast watching you play these games! 😀
@55:11 "She reminds me of Kristen Bell." That's because Kristen Bell is Lucy's voice actor.
I giggled like a little kid when you said "Desmond?" in the opening segment. AC1 is my favorite in the series and the most important piece of advice it would be:
After you do investigation missions, hit "ESC" or whatever it is on the controller to pull up the menu and read the memory logs, they provide info on the big assassination mission such as escape routes, guard spots, etc.
Also small story spotlight. Desmond says he's not part of the Assassins anymore aka he left. And Altair, broke all the tenets of the creed so he also figuratively left the Assassins. Cool story parallel.
She reminds you of Kristen Bell because she is Kristen Bell.
What's this? Someone playing the AC series? Damn, I have to watch this. Glad to see you're playing them in order too, not jumping in randomly like some people do, and then complain they don't understand the story. It's amazing seeing someone not know about the modern day. That's like the most well-known aspect of the series these days.
So excited to see you play this series!
Greez from germany, congratulations to your First ac Adventure.
I Hope you Like it!!!!!
It' s so much fun
Oh yea! I'm all in for this journey! Can't wait for you to get to Black Flag
One of my favs. Love the simplicity.
I'm glad you are starting the og AC games
The first thing Meg does... Hits someone!
This is gonna be great!
This is great! Excited to watch the whole journey 🔥
Well this is the most fun AC1 playthrough I've found :D
That same Leap of Faith glitched me through the floor and then did an autosave INSIDE the floor. Had to start the game over >.
btw you can actually see altair mix into the crowd escape on the side in the intro
Yoo i was waiting for this since i saw ur trailer reaction video
Excited for future ride of emotions and adventure 👍❤️🔥🔥🔥
Hope u enjoy it 😊
This was honestly my favourite time period still is, I wish Ubisoft would revisit this time period but I feel that may not happen. Either way great video I hope the next episodes will be great and I will try to see if I can watch them all.
Love your reaction to the game, assassins creed is my favorite game of all time (even some I wasn’t too crazy about) and I’m excited to watch the rest of your playthroughs.
Edit: It is an older game and the mechanics aren’t the best, but I do love this game for the story and because it was the beginning of an amazing franchise
Hey!! I've been binging your witcher 3 series, and have been waiting for this! I'm very excited to re-experience one of my favorite series' with you 😊
