I’ve seen over 200 of his shows, and still see new ones. I miss you Huell.
Fr 😂 love that
Me too miss the program and himself
That woman at the beginning knew what she was talking about. She really knows the history.
I don’t know how old I was when I first went to Olvera street, but I was a little girl. My dad is born and raised in East Los Angeles. Anyway, I tried some awesome taquitos from a street vendor with a thin green sauce. I never had anything like it. My dad’s mom was Mexican-Indian and she married an Irish man that emigrated from Belfast, Ireland with his family, due to the “Irish potato famine”. They had eleven children and my grandma stayed in that three-bedroom house until the day she died. I unfortunately never got to meet my grandpa, as he died of prostate cancer, just like Huel (R.I.P).
Huell was such a gift and treasure for us all. Thanks for these videos so that he and his gifts can continue to enrich us.
Amazing video by one of Californias greatest advocates.. Mr HUELL Howser... boy do I miss everything he did on PBS..... I truly miss this great "Californias gold" host n creator, HUELL HOWSER, may he rest in peace... thx Huell.
One of the older programs - 1994. My man looks healthy and young ... but then, he looked that way until he left us too soon. Anyway, I love Olvera Street. I can only assume it's as nice now as it was 30+ years ago when I lived in LA (and when this was taped!). Not mentioned here is that Olvera Street, or as it was known during the Silent Film era, Wine Street, was featured in Chaplin's "The Kid" and in a number of silent films in the Teens and early 20s.
It’s always great to see an episode with someone who can vibe with Huell. Good one
I remember going to Olvera Street as a young kid back in the late 70's early 80's and it was packed! Gotta go back and take the fam. Miss ya Huell!!!
I was fortunate to have met Huell a few times. A genuine great man.
Grew up on this show. Shaped my public speaking and people skills! ❤
This was an great video. It’s beuitiful time capsule of the early 90s . I grew up in Los Angeles and only visited Olvera plaza once. My last name is Avila, so now I feel I need to go back and see the Avila adobe house with my family. Thank you for uploading this.
I miss this show!
Such a lovely Lady. Reminds me of my Grandmother.
Same
I fell in love with Helen! Especially at 9:06 & 9:57, so great!
Agree good merchandise and amazing food and the atmosphere is always humble
RIP HUELL HOWSER😭
Praise The Lord!
Visited Olvera street many times as a child, many memories of the mariachi and watching dancers in the square. I saved every penny for years to purchase a set of wooden string puppets from a vendor there. I also had a cherished tiny glass cat from a man there who would blow glass right in his booth. Toured the tortilla factory on a field trip as well.
Oh, and jumping beans! Hours of entertainment.
Christine Sterling ! Thank you, thank you for your contribution in restoring a little piece of my Mexico! I recently visited la placita Olvería with my hija and her boyfriend . As we stepped into the plaza I said to them " ""your about to enter a time machine """ ! That's what it is ! It's a little part of Mexico...thank you Christine Sterling ! We got there at 3pm...by the time we made it to the adove house it was closed 😭...they closed at 4pm..but we enjoyed the rest so so much.
You're Mexico unfortunately the Mexicans have taken over California
Huell was such a good looking man! And so talented! Love all his content! ♥️
Proud to be Angelino!! And from Sinaloa just like the first immigrant families from Mexico.
You get a glimpse of the sanja madre behind them @25:00 LA's original way of transporting water. 200 years old
The thing they found by accident, its behind glass now?
I have seen many of huels programs , not all , but any ! And a vloger that I watch , Adam the woo has stated that huel howser was a big influence on him !
#1 EDUCATIONAL programs
Huell has met his match❤
Cheers to Christine Sterling!!
Olvera Street, one of my favorite places in Ciudad De La Reina de Los Angeles
Huell howser is AWESOME
She is so lovely! I like her!
This is episode was aired in either in 1995 or 1996
This part of Los Angeles would make my dad proud, because he was meztizo.Tony
Maybe one day I’ll visit California.
Better make it quick, before the bum camps takeover the place, I still love it, but it's getting ridiculous in some areas.
Free land ! Excuse me lady ! This was not free land , this was my ancestors land ! Shame shame shame !!
She was telling you what happened..not what SHOULD have happened. The late James Garner outlined similar things in Oklahoma as I recall.
I always remember Pumpkin Candy from Olivera street
Man, this guy was a savage, 16:48
Haha, Huell Howser was thinking "Gotta keep it clean, too much future California Gold to risk on a saucy tale of a house of ill repute on public access TV"!
@@TheNgc1999 that's right
HUELL howser gold MAN
She says the Indians that lived here ! ..yes lady the natives that lived and owned the land that was ours !
❤2012 to 2020. I worked in jeffersonville indiana, Shepardville Kentucky , Mishawaka indiana elkhart Indiana and waxahacie texas. The weather, the people and brick buildings It was an experience. Southern culture is totally different then California culture. I learned about Duke of hazard flag and KKK. I didn’t know the history. Never do that again.. 😂😂😂
Band stand,,lady ? ..this is the KIOSCO , QUIOSCO !
Alta California what is now USA territory was Mexican territory(55+ percent). That is why there are Mexican descent people in California.
California New Mexico Nevada Utah Texas Arizona grand part of Colorado Wyoming parts of Kansas and Oklahoma were Mexican Territory. Mexicans are Native American!💫
All these statues need to be removed ... All these people giving land that was not there's to give !
I was baptized at the church at Placita Olvera!! Memories!!
