Met him several times, what a great dude. Always helpful, innovative, experienced. Not many like him around anymore, sadly. He had the highest respect from some of the most successful engineers in the world. The great Al Schmitt, R.I.P., loved Daves TLA100 compressor. Whenever Al was in Europe, studios rented my two TLA100 for him, because he loved those so much on upright bass. Al even signed on of those on the front plate for me. My most precious gear at my studio now.
This is great, thanks so much for making it and posting it on YT. Everyone in this film seems like an awesome person, which kinda doesn't surprise me seeing as how everything I've heard about Dave Hill has been awesome. Awesome attracts awesome.
I watched it two times now, and have to state: this should be a must have seen movie for every student of music and music technology. The depth of all those thoughts about recording music, of special topics like sampling rate and pre/postringing on sharp waveform edges, and in the next moment those truly felt deep emptions and music snippets - the whole humanity is just insane. I love this movie!
Thank you ! I spent some time in Superior to film Dave and this was a blessed time. Such a knowledgeable person with concern for the human beings around him. Dave will be missed !
Love this. Does anyone have a link to the song they recorded on Spotify? Great performance. Dave Hill (was - RIP) and Crane Song are incredible beacons of the pro audio industry.
Loved this documentary. Heard about it from Doug Fearn’s podcast. Does anyone know the brand of that mic stand he’s using? Looks like a beast of a mic stand.
Some of the circuit boards were stamped with 2007, so I would guess 2010 plus or minus a year or two. The younger looking Fab Dupont and Will Knox would also fit with that time period. Let's just say 2011 🙂
Holy buckets! Awesome. We lost a light in this world when we lost Dave Hill. Thank you for everything, Dave. Rest in peace.
R. I. P. Gratitude Sir!
