Hello, the 2 stereo outputs are mirrored or they can be individual? For example I want to use the first stereo pair for monitoring the whole track in my daw and the second stereo output to use it for sending just one stem of the track for processing (compressors, distortion etc) and recorded it back in my daw. Probably i'll buy the Crane Song interstellar adc for that. Waiting for your answer thanks !!!

I bought the Solaris a few Months ago as PreAmp / DAC between PC and my Unity Audio Monitors and what can i say... such an High Quality Product. The Sound is so effortless and detailed with an Tight Lowend, the Mids and Highs have such an good Resolution. The best DAC is a DAC that dont color the sound and this unit did it perfectly. Way better than my Mytek & SOtM before. My Monitors are already (for my taste) very punchy with an good tight bass but these Combo with the Solaris is 100% 👌

I have an Hilo and sounding great. Do you think i would see a major quality improvement in conversion adding a Crane song Hedd Q via AES to the Hilo? How much of a quality jump would I get in %?It is the Heed or adding a few pieces of hardware from Tegeler for the same money. Not sure… I’m looking for amazing conversion but something that is quite significant so it can justify the money as this is quite expensive… Thank you.

I love the main outputs on the Solaris (it's my reference DAC) but you should point out the secondary rear outputs aren't the same and not as high resolution, nor are they intended to be. Dave Hill is an incredible designer.
So, I guess I should put one on my Christmas list :)

Hey Streaky, I've been using the Solaris for the last 6 months or so and I, like yourself Love it. It is really a great bit of gear. I use it to feed my analogue chain and Avocet. I've had the Avocet for years and upgraded the DAC in it last year to the Quantum and was amazed at the difference and when I heard about the Solaris I knew I had to have it for the Pitch. Dave Hill is a very cool mad scientist making great gear! I capture the master with my Hilo and Love the combination of the two. I like the new room BTW.

@Streaky can you do an Apollo X16 vs Antelope Discrete 8 SC vs Crane Song Solaris DAC shootout...just to display some realistic spec clarity and vet out some of these"mastering grade" conversion and clocking claims? I see a lot of manufacturers boasting 130+ db of dynamic range,..would like to see how true and usable that is and how relevant those specs are to the over all sound of the DAC when paired with varying spec'd internal clocking tech ie: Apollo X16 10000 fs jitter spec vs Solaris 45 fs jitter spec. Numbers wise..massive difference, wondering how audible it is?

Hi Streaky, Thanks for great and helpful videos! I have been producing music for about 10 years now and feel really comfortable with my workflow and gear. I want to take my productions to the next level and start to make a living on it. I did quit my day job a few weeks ago for this line of work, to be able to focus on getting out there. My plan is to go by the title audio engineer and I can think of numerous ways to use my skill in films, commercials, beat making etc. I know that contacts is really vital in this business and I don't want to be that producer that hides behind my computer, do you have any tip on where I could start digging to find a first client? How do you get clients or is it a snowball effect, the more you do the more jobs you get?
Organised Sound specialise, be the man that does that one thing well...work for free to build the CV, build a Personal brand, offer your services to people...basically do that all day and not engineering until your phone is ringing without you pushing them you can engineer all day. So you need 1 d/a solaris quantum and one more a/d solaris quantum, but what about your HW chain? Do you get a third for that? Optionally 1 ad/da hedd quantum + 1 d/a solaris quantum to the chain?
So, I can’t speak for streaky, but I have a Lavry feeding the monitoring chain, then Prism for the AD/DA loop, with an additional Lavry AD in case I want that sound. So, minimum 2 DACs and an ADC.
Hey Streaky love your videos. Would the Solaris be well suited as a monitor controller/interface for bass heavy electronic music production? And how does the headphone amp compare to some high end standalone headphone amps?
its well suited as a monitor controller but with limited features, so no dim or A/B monitor switch. The headphone amp sound super crisp, but I have no comparison

How do you set it up? I just want it for DA but how do I link it to my interface? I thought it would need word clock.

@@whytewavestudios3039 oh sheesh..a year ago, mine was a 2 months waiting time! ah yeah, maybe don't connect it to your interface, bc then it works off the clock of your existing IF. just hook it up as your main DA. the other interface can be used as main AD
So if it's not good to connect it through a digital link, how would you hook two of them up to your laptop system to pitch and monitor the ad return? Trying to get that through my head??

Thanks Streaky. So you’ll connect each Solaris with a USB port to the laptop and just use Core Audio? Or would you use sort of digital interface card. Just trying to figure out how one would connect two Solaris and an AD to a laptop and interface each with your daw. I’m thinking of grabbing two as well but I was going to connect them digitally through my Lynx Hilo. But if the Hilo clock will muddle up the Solaris I was trying to think of what would be the right approach. I have a Dangerous AD+ for AD.

Be great to see what you think of the Antelope Pure2. I've got one and love it! I also auditioned it against a couple others (Hilo and Lyra) and for me it sounded exquisite.

Was going to say, yea their customer service is the one downfall. Sonically they're great but I am keeping options open for the next AD/DA since I want more in terms of reliability and support from the developer. Definitely interested in Burl, and it's Canadian! Or Cranesong :).
could you compare Babyface pro DA to PURE 2 ?
Would this work going out of a Scarlette 18i20 audio interface?
I think a good way to run it would be to connect both the Scarlette and Solaris to the computer (not daisy chained). Then optimise the settings in your DAW so it takes input signals from the Scarlette, and sends the master out to the Solaris. The Scarlette will 'bottle neck' the the signal running to the Solaris if it is first in the chain.

I loved the Hilo, nice and open and neutral (at least to my ears it was neutral yet beautifully extended top-end). I went with the Pure2 because I found it had slightly warmer feel (less fatiguing) and just sounds more 'modern' and 'fat and fun to work on'. I'd be really interested to see how it sounds against a Burl B2 and this Solaris!
Did you try running the HiLo with the Pure2 clock? It opens up nicely with a better clock. I kept my HiLo and replaced the Pure2 with a HEDD Quantum (which got Quantum DA and Interstellar AD.. both awesome sounding!).
Sadly I didn't have the unit long enough, or else I would've! I love the clock on the Pure2. So I'm sure it would've just enhanced the imaging further, which I 'think' also makes it feel fatter and tighter (than the Hilo) to my ears. I think a HEDD Quantum is the next AD/DA I'll seriously check out. Out of curiousity how do you feed it from your DAW rig? SPDIF or optical? Thinking I'll go the HEDD + RME Multiface route next when it's time to upgrade.
I got most of my converters connected to a RME HDSPe AES in a thunderbolt case (since the latest mac pro doesn't have PCIe).
Burl converter AD/DA .. get your hands on one of these,
i think burl are colored converters.. good for summing and inputs but not sure as mastering and mixing DA. might be wrong

I bought the quantum. I was really disappointed !!!!!!and returned it. The device did not respond as it is spoken and worth nothing !!!
