    4 hours on track, but time in meetings, risk assessments, preparing equipment and man power and travelling to and from site. Still a full night's work when your body clocks playing with you.

    ???? I started with BR in 1981, so that's 30 years now can't imagine doing anything else. Ok I know the odd shifts can be a pain and we all moan about our jobs, wages, bosses etc but I love it and want to stay till I retire.

    Many many cancellations these days re Engineering works because they can not get enough people or contractors. The the next disaster the managers will be responsible with their high executive pay we are all paying for. I am a very experienced manager that has now left the industry for good . Network rail likes apprenticeships and new inexperienced people also it seems .

      I concur, I went to Australia when I was 20, did 5 years on the railways over there worked up to leading hand and gained so much experience and knowledge. Came back to the UK and absolutely nobody wanted me, or offered help to sponsor me for a PTS. 4 years since I’ve been back and I’ve finally found a government funded course to get me on the UK rails. These kind of situations are why our country is such a mess!

    To do such things you need to have a background in mechanical or in civil (transportation) engineering?

    • @MaxLloyd-kk9oq
      @MaxLloyd-kk9oq ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No not at all you just need a pts and other add ons depending where you want to work like your AC DCCR OLEC1 Or your third rail

    @XxROBERTSONx take my advice from somebody who has been on the railway for 18 years. Don't work for network rail, they are greedy, and run a very badly managed railway infrustructure, what the camara doesn't show or tell you is the amount of accidents due to workloads being rushed and managers putting pressure on staff to do stupid amounts of work with little staffing levels,they took on loads of apprentices, and now they have no jobs due to staff cutbacks, apply for balfour beatty, !
