I’m in MN and went on vacation for a week, we came back a week ago and I was pleasantly surprised to find everything looking great, even my dahlias started to bloom again
@@ChicagoGardener yes the rain helped a lot, it had been super dry… I don’t really have much too pull, I had pulled the petunias before I left and I’m planning on leaving the zinnias in place for the birds and a few bees that are still around
Amazing deck garden! I'm gardening in Chicago area too, your pots garden give me some ideas, we might downsize in 2 year, I Will try pots garden.Thank you for sharing !
Your Chicago garden still looks good. I like your idea about balancing you holly trees with two more. I’m looking forward to seeing how you prepare them for winter. I live in Milwaukee.
Wow! So gorgeous! Both your decks still look absolutely fantastic considering how late we are in the season😍 The extra heat in September and first week of October definitely helped keep the plants thriving. A few days ago I started cleaning up & bringing in some plants inside to overwinter as the temperature is dropping fast. I’m now looking forward to next Spring already 🌸
Totally! & I brought indoors my hibiscus, it’s in a 9" pot so it’s not too bad to move it. Also a zonal geranium, an English lavender, and a Hydrangea macrophylla “Jip Pink” that only grew foliage this year, but hopefully will flower for next year🪷
Your garden still looks wonderful. I usually let mine go over winter for the insects, but spring clean up takes away from the joy of planting. I'm on 2 acres and this yr they have to make do with everything else out there, plenty of overgrown areas to hide in. I'm on the shore in Md., it's just 56* this morning, seen some things that are not happy, honestly that includes me, I do not like cold weather. But I do love Md.

Yes! We got enough rain to keep everything happy and full. Have you started pulling any plants yet?

I don't receive full sun anywhere in my yard so your shade area is inspiring. I agree that I love the color palette. Anything light pink tbh
Do you grow astilbe? It’s one of my favorite plants that’s shade loving.
@@ChicagoGardenermy TH-cam notifications are messed up but yes! I have two

I’ll definitely let you know what I do! I’m a bit nervous since they’re only down to zone 5 but we’ll see how it goes.

Looking back at photos last year, we were so much warmer for longer this fall! What plants do you bring inside over winter?

I don’t like cold weather either! I need 60 degrees and above to keep me happy 😆

A min after it hit reply, I figured 56 wasn't that bad for Chicago.
Do you start your Zinnias from seed or buy transplants. You always seem to have a boat load
My zinnias are all from seed! I’ve had better luck that way compared to when I planted starts.
