  • In this short tutorial I demonstrate how to establish connections between RD Works and Your RDC Controller. For this demonstration I used the RDC6445.

    Great video. Clear, to the point, and includes techniques for manual entry. This was really helpful to set up my rotary axis when I had so many connection issues.

    Aloha Matt! Can't tell you how amazing your videos have been for us. We have a 6445G controller and just got the updated RDWorks software from your website per the comments below. I'm having an issue getting the port recognized. Followed all the steps you laid here and keep getting a "Port Test Failure!" message. Thoughts? Mahalo nui for your work on this channel. It's been huge for my business.

      Did you install the USB driver option for the controller when installing the RD Works Software?

      @@MWLaser Thanks for responding Matt! Yes, I uninstalled the old program and reinstalled the driver. the program starts up, allows me to add a driver. but all of them have communication error. Super frustrating.

    I followed all your steps to setup Ethernet connection but using Lightburn. All checked out fine, laser is showing connected on the screen and Lightburn I am able to select it. Only issue is the I am not able to save a file to my laser. I get an error it can’t save the file to the laser. Any ideas where I can start to trouble shoot? Thank you.

    Hi I'm trying to connect I'm using thunderlaser's version of RDWORKS but in the "MODEL" tab at the top my Rudi board model isn't displayed im using RDC6445G when i use the normal version of RDWORKS it is showed but im used to using the other version, is there a way to add the model also you say to connect via internet input the IP into the control panel, any IP or your internets default gateway? cheers

    Hi Good day to you...great work on your tutorials. I'm having many problems...it all of sudden the head went crashing when homing...then with the ruida establishing connections it all fails....USB connection says "failed"...and ethernet says failed..I had done a default reset (HF8888) at the controller and the motor stepps are wild all over...what can you do to help with advice? The machine is acting wild.

    Matt, I connected a Cat6 cable regular (not twisted) set it up manually in Lightburn.
    the ruida controller shows little Message on top of controller that LAN is connected.
    Went into the setup in the controller and entered the IP address.
    go back into Lightburn and selected Cat6 (that's what I called this connection) but I get NOT Connected.
    I made the cable and ran a tester on it and it shows fine.
    any Ideas. I am trying to move the machine on the other side of the garage.
    One more thing, I have ordered USB extenders over ethernet, have you ever tried this method ?

      Connect the Cat6 to a router/network switch and setup on the same subnet as your PC ethernet, connect PC to router/network switch. Give that a go. If you prefer wireless you could also try a wireless access point on the laser.
      No I have not tried the USB extenders.

    Hi ! First of all, thank you for the videos, help a lot!! But I have a question... I upload the file on my USB key, i have the "file successfull" message, but when i put the key in my laser machine, check the file on Udisk "menu", it says "No file"... Do you know how i can settle this? Thank you for your time; have a great day!

      A few possibilities - 1, faulty USB (try a new one) | 2, Incorrect format of USB (use FAT32 default) | 3, try placing USB in machine and then press Reset and try reading USB Disk again.

    At 1:08 - I hit "TEST" and get an error code "Port Test Failure" I've verified the Com Port - I'm trying to use RDWorks. (I have Lightburn on my Mac and it connects just fine but am trying to "troubleshoot" with RDWords.) Thoughts?

      Have you installed the driver as part of the RD Works Installation?

    Is it possible to adjust the power of the pulse button, or the pulse duration?

      On RDC6445 Controller...
      To Change Laser Manual Pulse Time. Press Menu go to FUNCTION+, Select LASER SET+, change Laser mode from CONTINUE to LASER, Set Pule time below that for desired duration eg 1000 ms = 1 Sec. Then WRITE and ESC back to Main Screen.
      To Change Power of Pulse, Press POWER button, Change Value for min & max to desired power setting.

    Hello, the cable connections dont work for me... when testing i get "port test failure" ...ive swooped the whole internet to try and find a solution but no luck...any idea what could be the cause? Many thanks for your videos btw

    upgraded to same controller as you on the same laser you have (80 Watt Red Chinese), used your manual, All great..... Except.... For some reason my "LightBurn software connects perfectly via USB or Ethernet fine but RD Works Thunder laser will not connect via either of the 2..... Any suggestions? Had the same issue with the Top Wisdom controller also. Was hoping the new Ruida controller would solve my issue. Running V08.01.47-20200219

      Are you trying to connect to Controller in RD Works while LightBurn is already connected to laser?

      Hi Ken, have you figured out the connection issue you were facing? my friend is experiencing the same issue after upgrading his controller . same RDWorks version as well. before replacing the controller, everything worked fine connection wise. thanks

      Yes, it was the version software I was using. It required a subscription. I was fortunate to speak with MSLaser and he was able to supply us with the correct software. I think he has a link in his video. If not I’m sure he can direct you.
