  • INGREDIENTS LISTED BELOW ⬇⬇⬇ I year ago we went to Egypt! Pranav for work, me on cultural exchange - sort of. There we came across this beautiful and vibrant lemonade called "Lemon & Mint." I think it might also be called limonana, but on most menus in Alexandria and Cairo, we always saw it as "Lemon & Mint." After doing a little research here my take on this refreshing a atypical lemonade. Hope you enjoy, and let me know if the comments below! Shukraan!
    INGREDIENTS
1 lemon with the skin intact
    2 inch piece of ginger
    1/3 cucumber
    handful of mint
1/4-1/3 cup honey or other sweetener of your choice
    1.2 L of water

The white part of the lemon's peel is bitter. I'm not sure how this drink comes out but the lemon zest you mentioned is only shavings of the YELLOW part of the peel. They avoid the white part.

Hi Mordecai! You're absolutely right. The white part of the rind can certainly be bitter, and I find that over time it only gets worse. However, this drink never lasts long enough for that to happen! The next time I make this I will take your advice into account though, thank you!

I'm glad you found it! I think my version might be a little different - it's not completely authentic. The typical one you might find will not have the ginger or cucumber. But I hope you try this drink and love it as much as I do!

This is fabulous! Simple to prep and so delicious. Perfect hint of sweetness from the honey and lovely lemon flavor, nothing bitter at all. Thank you for this🍋💚👏🏼

Thank you so much 😊 It is indeed one of my favourite drinks yet I haven't made it this summer. Your comment brought me back to this video and reminded me that I should make this, so thank you!

I traveled to Egypt also. I so enjoyed the lemon mint drink while there. I’ve wanted to recreate it when I returned home to the US. Thanks for the recipe.

I have made this juice, and I truly like it. But your Dad likes it very much. I have made it 3 times already and am making it again today. It is simple, refreshing. And you can sweeten it to your taste. I usually use Maple Syrup. 👍👍❤️❤️

Wow I’m Egyptian and reading that made me miss my home 😢😌..... my husband is indian and he’s crazy about this juice ....but we never use fresh ginger or cucumber... but I understand it’s inspired so you may do few twists

Thank you so much for this comment! Honestly I never knew how this drink got its vibrant colour, and the best thing I could think of was to add some cucumber with the skin. But maybe in Egypt they make it with more mint and that is where the colour comes from. Thank you so much for this feedback, I really appreciate it! I love this drink and I love Misr so much! 💗💗💗

I have made this drink twice since you posted the recipe. So very easy and refreshing. I used Maple Syrup since I had no sugar or honey. We both enjoyed it very much.❤️❤️👍👍

Won’t the lemon peel make it bitter?

    • @maharajaneela
      @maharajaneela  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Surprisingly, it doesn't! I think perhaps because it's a quick blitz and then immediately strained? I have to say though that the longer this drink sits in the fridge, the more the taste changes, so drink it fast. Usually people make the amount they wish the have and then consume it immediately while it's fresh 💖
