Game is 66% off right now, pretty massive discount. I've held off on playing more until 1.0 hits but will be jumping back in after that, it definitely has a lot of love put into it.
@@baconcow You're probably right, I just found out that multiplayer doesn't go through Steam servers so "Nice job developers!" Interesting to see the difference approaches and mindsets in some of these new games going on the HOMM style. Like, this and Hero's Hour both take that style and run it in completely different directions. This is gritty and focused on strategy and so on, Hero's Hour is more about the joy of seeing your massive swarms of weird random stuff you collected around the map just sweep enemies, lol.
@@rekrn12345 I don't remember that, but I did feel like it got boring fast. I was quite disappointed, but I also played quite early on in their release.

Agreed. I feel bad about having slept on SoC for so long, but I pulled the trigger last year; three months later, I have an embarrassing amount of hours put into it. XD
HOMM3 sits in this weird space for me of simultaneously being the best yet after playing later games feeling too outdated to play again. I've played this game a bit, I enjoyed my time with it, wasn't the right time for me to get in depth with it and I've kind of been waiting for the next content patch.
Interesting that you happened to cover this game now! Had it on my wishlist for a while and picked it up a few days ago at a discount. Lovely game! Looks and plays beautifully! It's clearly a labor of love.
Since the last update ive given this game a true chance on the Steam Deck (runs great). I bought the game years ago and never gave it a shot, i regret that
Yo Splatt! You should do like yearly or bi yearly round up of your most "excited for" (Or something along those lines) that you covered in that time period.
Its obviously been a while but I'm still glad that you changed your first minutes into each video. Giving some overview what a game is about before that "if it's something to add to you wishlist" monologue
@@gameburn178to each their own I suppose. Having played both, I would pick Song's of Conquest over Hero's of Might and Magic 3. That is due to a multitude of things. Among them is that Hero's 3 is heavily dated, has a STEEP learning curve (as it should, because it is not the first game in the series), and we are not likely to get anything on that level for a long time to come. That said it is pure nostalgia to play. Song's is new, and is the first iteration of a new resurgence in the genre. It has a much gentler on ramping process to introduce new players (which is not a bad thing) to this style of game. The art style is aesthetically pleasing, and captures a lot of the old charm of the Hero's games. It has brought a lot of new eyes to the genera and sold fairly well, which means there is likely to be at least one sequel. Sequels will allow the studio(s) to start experimenting, and to potentially nail the landing. To meet and possibly exceed what Hero's achieved all those years ago, would be a good thing. Song's is not there YET, but it's still in development. Let it cook.
It has soooo much potential, they nailed the feel of Heroes while having it's own style and mechanics which are all compelling, I hope it succeeds and keeps expanding after 1.0 Launch
Long time heroes fan, can confirm it's super solid. There's a few differences of course, but even with my middling strategic skills I'm having a blast. They basically took Heroes and said let's amp up the Strategic requirements by requiring the player to focus heavily on their units, the battlefield, and magic. So unlike Heroes you can't just blast through everything with your spells or your creatures or cheese the system with positioning and other Battlefield shenanigans. I won't pretend I haven't gotten my booty kicked, but it only motivated me to come back harder.
I miss that game, i get nostalgic every time i see it available. The customization of your soldiers was great. The AI seemed like it cheated a bit from memory, heck the game itself could have used some code optimizing.
@omganotherun Yeah, there's a hero from the Loth faction that gives them more HP when they are in his army. And since the rats gain a massive damage boost whenever they take damage, having anything that helps them to survive a hit to punch back is helpfull. Fun fact: you can actually target your own troops with your magic. So you can, lets say, kill a single rat with a weak spell, to ensure that the other 159 rats from the stack double their damage, then you sent them to one shot any enemy units. You can totally built nothing but rat, money, and research buildings, and win by creating a vermintide.
If you want tactical, pixel art frog men, PoxNora is basically going to be playable forever. I just started playing again and made a few different Boghopper (frog men) Warbands.
IMPORTANT QUESTION: Does the AI have unlimited resources with preeminent budget per turn or is it simulated so that you can actually cut off the ai from resources?
Are these types of games hard to get into for somebody that has never played them? I think it looks pretty cool, but I've never played anything like this so I feel like I wouldn't know what I'm supposed to be doing. You've clearly played similar games before and have clear direction of what to do next.
Yeah its really a contender, though a balance need really for multiplayer and tournaments here. Heroes 3 is unbalanced too really since 1997 i played every Heroes or Heroes like game too and for many many many time. Also Silence of Siren is really great too it will come out next year, EA this year. We played the demo its really similar to Heroes 3-4-5 but in scifi! Hot seat was over after 1.5-2 hours twice! :) It was fast and great!
Got the game on discount. Wouldn't touch it until full release though. I'm enjoying AoW4 atm so I wouldn't have to worried about being burnt out on SoC at early access.
for me all of the "races/castles" are the same. We have Humans, Humans with few skeletons, Desert Humans and frogs - but all of they are played very same with no differences in real gameplay.
So i own this fair warning the difficulty curve goes from walking thru a meadow to climbing a cliff carrying a hippo with parkinsons in about 3 missions on EVERY campaign. It's the closest anyone has gotten to heroes of Might and magic 3 complete in DECADES. But its not for casual play. and this is after a "rebalance". Be ready.
it kinda feels like every game latley is the most amazing or anticipated. im sure their good games but i suspect they're probably just sponsored ones.. which is fine

The pixel art alone is enough to make me play this.
a small stack of units is useful for spell casting since 1 unit gives the same mana as 100
