I am 76 and you talk about inspiring thank you so much Ray !!!!! You are very easy to listen to without all of the flowery talk no pun intended . thank you RAY
Ray is my absolute favorite when it comes to presenting the art of photography. I value all of his videos and have already employed some of the techniques and viewpoints to my work. Thank you Ray for your creativity and wisdom. You knowledge has been essential to the growth of my work.
Your words are extremely kind and much appreciated. Thank you for taking time out of your day to visit the channel. Have a great end of the week. Cheers!
You are most welcome Ray. I look forward to viewing your channel and applying what I learn for many years to come. Thank you for sharing in your craft. Cheers!
This video was advertised on my mobile ( cell ) phone. I had a look at it and thought it was interesting. Then I took the plunge and have made a picture of a dahlia being in a spotlight which has worked well. So thank you Ray. David
Ray I am so glad I found this video. I absolutely love flowers but you take it to the next level for me. Your creativity has inspired me to try different things by looking at things differently. Thank you very much!!
I intend to try this technique on some of my recent flower shots. The way you teach your tutorials reminds me of Bob Ross who was a painter with a show on television years ago. He stressed "Make it your own" during his tutorials and gave many different variations on painting and technique. I appreciate your ideas and I can see where you have helped many with your informative tutorials. Have a great day sir.
You are too kind but thank you very much. For me, the thing is that we all see things differently so why not “make it your own” since that is exactly what it is. I wish you the best of luck in your own personal photography journey. A journey that is full of fun and experimentation. Cheers!
Another one with calm & easy instruction - you should be listed under something like; great ideas taught in a way that temps one to try - I personally find the technique you show the best as in my experience light is subject to fall-off even in small areas and to be able to tweak separately can lead to a more realistic look - thanks again for posting these - have a good day.
This is the first time that I watched one of his videos. What a great presentation, your voice is very coming and very easy to understand. I'm not a Photoshop / Lightroom user but I believe I can incorporate your ideas into the editing programs that I use. Thank you for this video, I have subscribed and will be watching your other videos.
Hi Larry. Thank you very much for the nice words and for subscribing. I’m glad you found the channel and I hope you enjoy the tutorials. Have a great weekend.
👍👍 Great idea. I really like your style. You are very enjoyable like listening to a nice smooth jazz album. Thank you for teaching creative photography.
Hi Ray, Thanks for sharing some of your post processing tips. We can't always capture every image in camera the way we envision it. That's where photo editing software can help us be creative by adding drama and flair to our images. As I am now officially retired beginning a few days ago, I'm looking forward to improving all aspects of my photography and learning new, creative ideas from you tutorials. Best regards, Roger
Congratulations on your retirement. Revel in it. Now that you have more time I suspect your passion for photography will grow even more, if that’s possible. Thanks very much for watching and have a really good day.
Gotta say, those flowers are gorgeous. Just wanna add that if you darken the whole image, add your spot light effect to one flower, but invert it so only the inside is lighter, you can right click and copy it to make all your other flowers or subject the exact same brightness faster. But remember, it's doesn't have to be the same, you can use the light to guide your eyes across the photo.
I've always enjoyed your videos, Ray. This one, however, is my favorite. I've already started digging through the "archives" to upgrade some of my flower photos. Thanks!!
Thank you so much for sharing this technique. I enjoy floral photography but I feel it is the editing of the raw file that disappoints me. More like this video would be gratefully received. From one of your UK viewers.
Thank you for this tutorial. Wonderful use of the Radial tool. I plan to try the processing very soon, since I've just recently purchased a very nice macro lens. One Question - Is there a way to go back, after making a spotlight, and "erasing" it off a stray petal where you might not want the effect bleeding over? One more "tip" about the radial that you might mention at sometime - When you hold down the Option/Alt key, it allows you to adjust ONE side only, and not affect the rest of the circle. I have now subscribed to your channel. PS - If I might make one suggestion, though - I note that you sometimes have two prints on view behind you, when you're speaking. I would think that you should choose two images that pertain to the subject of your video, for this display.
Hey Michael. Yes you can always delete a spotlight or re-adjust it by reactivating it and pulling on an edge. That’s a good tip you gave so thanks for that. I sometimes place prints pertaining to the subject but mostly they are just there for atmosphere. Thanks so much for watching and subscribing and have a great day.
Wow i wish i could send you mine I tried my best to do the same after seen your video 😅..i am new to photography and I learned so much from your video ...Thanks 🙏
Hi Cheryl. They are gerbera daisy’s. They come in some spectacular colours so you can have a ton of fun with them. Thanks for watching and have a really good day.
Hi Jammie. If you click on the round selective adjustment tool on the right hand side in the Lightroom mobile interface a plus sign will appear above your image on the left hand side. Click on the plus sign and several different tools will appear. Click on the round radial filter tool and then drag the radial size you want on your image then make the adjustments you want. I’ve never seriously done this technique in mobile so I don’t know if it works as well but it’s certainly worth a try. Let me know how you make out.
AT 7:44 IN THE VIDEO I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW DID YOU CHANGE THE PHOTO TO LOOK LIKE THIS? TOPAZ IMPRESSION? I WAS AMAZED AND IMPRESSED WITH YOUR EXPLANATIONS AND THE CLARITY OF YOUR VIDEO. AFTER WATCHING THIS I SUBSCRIBED TO YOUR CHANNEL.
Hi Mark. The image at 7:44 is an HDR photo thus the clarity and detail. Mark, thank you so much for watching and subscribing and I wish you a great day.
I always use this trick for flowers, and by the way, instead of making another filter you can also duplicate existing one by right-clicking the mouse and then dragging it to the spot that needs the highlight
Hi Ray love the video, I'm so excited that I am getting back into photography. Sold my DSLR some years ago but kept my 10-20 and 18-270 lenses. I have recently bought the new 2000d which is much more of an upgrade than my old 400d lol. I stayed with Canon as this is the camera I have always used. At the time I bought lightroom but cannot find it so I will need to purchase it again. Can anyone advise me as to where I could buy it at a good price please. I have also been told that the 50mm nifty fifty lense is great for everything. Is this true ?? or will I be waisting my money on this purchase. I have 'liked' and subscribed' to your videos Ray so I am look forward to many more of your tutorials.
Hi Suz. Thanks so much for your kind words and for subscribing. Hmmm, photography equipment is such a personal thing that I never actually recommend what somebody should or shouldn’t buy. You seem to have the 50mm focal length covered with your zoom lens so I guess you would need the 50mm prime lens for a specific reason that only you know. I will say this however, there is no one lens that is good for “everything” though the 50mm length is very flexible. As far as Lightroom is concerned I have it in my Adobe Creative subscription and don’t know if it is available as a standalone anymore. Perhaps someone who’s reading this knows. Suz, I’m really excited for you that you’ve recaptured the photography bug so I wish you lots of fun and success. Have a great weekend.
Thank you Ray, I use photoshop but have not noticed the spotlight which I am interested in for the macro would I get that same effect if I have it ? Love all your photos
Great video :). No mistakes, just happy accidents ;). Only thing I'm missing in your videos is to see you beat the devil ;). You are definitivtly like Bob Ross. I like your soft voice.
I am 76 and you talk about inspiring thank you so much Ray !!!!! You are very easy to listen to without all of the flowery talk no pun intended . thank you RAY

Ray I am so glad I found this video. I absolutely love flowers but you take it to the next level for me. Your creativity has inspired me to try different things by looking at things differently. Thank you very much!!
Oh Rose, you are so very kind. Thank you. I’m really happy you feel inspired and that you obviously love photography. Have a wonderful weekend.

Hey Rick. Thanks so much and enjoy your day.

Great. Very informative. Very. Plus, you proceed slowly enough for viewers to grasp the technical moves in Lightroom.

Yes, so I’ve been told. Thanks Adrian and enjoy the weekend.
I guess you could do similar in camera with some flashes with narrow snoots or even fiber optics leading the light to the right places
Give it a try Uno. I’m pretty sure you’ll be able to do it.
Thank you very much sir.. really got something new from you thank agian 😊
Thanks a lot Ajay. Glad you pulled something new out of the video. Have a great day.

Very funny!😊😳 Hey Rik, thanks for watching and have a great day!
Rik Hendriks I felt the same way🙏🙏🙏
Just thinking the same thing 😄😄😄
