I was glad to grab this one, as the original US release is getting harder to find. Ours was the same blue disc from 2012 and had the same special features.

Hi Keith, never knew this release existed 😵💫 weirdly enough I've only seen the first remake movie and non of the others even though I've owned the original Japanese version on dvd and the ring part 2 remake 🥴 that's a brilliant slipcover it really looks like a real VHS 👌 Great way to house a stellbook as well, nice looking steelbook 🤩🤩👍👍I do need to revisit these movies and watch them again Keith 👍👍
Honestly John check out the original movies I think you will love them. Correction I know you will love them. In my opinion this remake rivals the original movie and it's incredibly hard to pick between the two which is the best. Gonna pick this one up. First thought it was USA only. And with a blu ray that's worthless. Nice to see an European release. Recently bought the original Ring trilogy Arrow boxset (the white one). This remake would look nice next to it

I will always prefer Ringu with its classic old school ghost tale atmosphere and the Thriller-like set up. Also, the cinematography of the original is breathtaking. The remake is good, too, though. Naomi Watts is great as always and the movie is different enough to not feel like a rehash.
That's the one thing when it comes to remakes with me it has to be somewhat different to the original movie. When they do these word-for-word remakes I honestly can't watch them. I was looking to pick up a few movies for Halloween and I just saw this was still available on Amazon and HMV...the photo of it looked amazing so I thought I'd look for a review/unboxing to see if the photo did it justice...and ofc I wind up on your channel again Keith ! 😁Ofc you have this edition ! 😁This looks like an absolutely amazing package to me and I think might be the first release I'm going to buy for the packaging as much as the movie...but I really like the movie also. Years ago I recall I saw the Japanese version and thought it was great...then sometime later I saw this American version and I was stunned at how good a job they'd done. As I recall I actually thought the American version overall was a better movie which really surprised me...but I always thought the "video footage" scenes in the Japanese version were better...both were good movies...but I definitely want this version now !
Yeah like I said in that video there was a good argument when it comes to which is the better version. As you mentioned the Japanese version does have the better video footage scenes but I found the tone of the American version to be so much better. A hell of a lot more atmospheric as well. As for the release I was ecstatic with it. I found it to be incredibly creative with the slip cover and then when you see the Steelbook itself really is a fantastic release and I hope you pick it up. The movie looks beautiful on Blu-ray. The color tone is exceptional and it sets the mood of the movie quite well. If you do pick it up let me know what you think
@@millerman9991 I ordered it from HMV last night, as soon as I'd watched your review here😁I'll let you know what I think of it when it arrives 👍I also ordered the 4K of Poltergeist...now that one I didn't order for the packaging 🙄I cannot believe the 4K cover doesn't include the classic cover art of the little girl staring into the television (like on the blu-ray cover !). I really do question how the people making these decisions get their jobs...clearly they have no love of the movie or ability to appreciate art in general. Oh well, at least the transfer is meant to be very good and maybe I'll find a way to update the cover at some point in future.
@tigerblue42 thankfully I ordered the collectors edition of poltergeist and as far as I remember you do get the original artwork on the main box but the Steelbook you get inside it has new artwork which looks horrendous. The 4K picture is absolutely astonishing on it but I do have to admit the blu-ray that you get with it looks equally as beautiful. I don't think you're going to have too many complaints in the end
@@millerman9991 Hi Keith, my steelbook of "The Ring" arrived today. I think the slipcase design is fantastic, I love the high-gloss finish of it and the "dusty/weathered look" of an old VHS tape. I don't mind the "15 certificates" being on the spine or the reverse but it's a shame they felt the need to include them on the front as well (an idiotic legal requirement I guess). The steelbook itself is also gorgeous...I love the art design/colouring and gloss finish on the outside as well as the internal artwork of the little girl on the chair. I've not watched it yet (will watch it closer to Halloween) but I stuck it on to have a quick look at the transfer and my initial impression was that it looked great 👍It would have been nice to have some disc art on the disc itself (just make it totally black with the white/silver ring around it) and I would have preferred a better "disc holder" (I'm not a steelbook collector but I think most of them have this holder which doesn't include the central "presser" to make the disk easier to get out as you would find on a standard amaray case...) but overall I think this is a great release and I'm very happy to have it in my collection ! 👍😀

Maybe it's just as well they don't because I would be broke every week 😆. The colour spectrum to that movie is absolutely beautiful and it sets the tone perfectly. I would love for you to come back and let me know what you thought of it when you watch it sometime in October. You have picked the perfect time of year. Just wait for a cold dark stormy evening and then knock it on. Actually now that I think of it I think I might watch it this weekend. It'll set me up beautifully for the month of October. That without a doubt is one of the best slipcover designs out there, it’s a shame it wasn’t carried around to the back too, yeah the age logos should have been peal away sticker….stunning release of a brilliant movie (apart from the plain disc of course haha) nice one Keith, take care👍😀👍

It does have a few issues like I said the ratings should have been stickers and of course paramount and their terrible discs. It's weird with the ring cause it technically had two originals made the same year which was very weird, by two different directors I think. Rasen and Ringu both 1998. I haven't seen both in a while but I remember preferring the Japanese version same as with the grudge, which I did order the arrow set for that in December. You're right Keith, we'll worth the 20 quid and beautiful design, only issue is the lazy oversight for non removable age ratings on the slipcover, the US version probably has none.. I got blue light shined on mine by accident when I took pictures of it but I thought it looked amazing with blue light on the steelbook so I left it.
Hey Steve. I had no idea that there was two versions of this out in the same year. Going to go over and check it out. I find it very hard to pick between which version of the Ring I prefer. The original is fantastic but so is this remake and it's so wonderfully acted out as well. I'm trying to decide whether or not to hold off on that grudge set and see if I can get it for cheaper in time. It can be a bit risky because chances are it might sell out. Hi Keith, I'm sure you're probably aware of it but just in case you missed it ViaVision in Australia have released a 1500 only limited edition 4K and blu-ray version of the Saw franchise with a reverse bear trap model. I know you like your show pieces only downside it's over 300 euros with postage.
Yes I found out about this a few months ago and unfortunately as beautiful as the release is I can't justify spending €300 for it. This already came out in Germany a couple of years ago where you get the complete collection on Blu-ray and I'm almost certain you can get it cheaper than €300. Maybe someday if it goes for a lot cheaper. But thanks for the heads up

It's weird with the ring cause it technically had two originals made the same year which was very weird, by two different directors I think. Rasen and Ringu both 1998. I haven't seen both in a while but I remember preferring the Japanese version same as with the grudge, which I did order the arrow set for that in December. You're right Keith, we'll worth the 20 quid and beautiful design, only issue is the lazy oversight for non removable age ratings on the slipcover, the US version probably has none.. I got blue light shined on mine by accident when I took pictures of it but I thought it looked amazing with blue light on the steelbook so I left it.
Hey Steve. I had no idea that there was two versions of this out in the same year. Going to go over and check it out. I find it very hard to pick between which version of the Ring I prefer. The original is fantastic but so is this remake and it's so wonderfully acted out as well. I'm trying to decide whether or not to hold off on that grudge set and see if I can get it for cheaper in time. It can be a bit risky because chances are it might sell out. I’m a big fan of the film!! It’s shit me up so bad the first time I watched it around 18-19 years ago.. I turned the lights on after the opening scene!! No bull shit! 🤯🤣🤣.. you won’t believe this, Keith.. but I haven’t yet seen the original.. and I do have it on dvd☺️🤷🏽♂️🤣
Like I said in the video it's a genuine scary movie and I'm a big fan of it. It was also great to get such a unique looking release for the ring. I'm a big fan of the original ring movie and I think it's worth checking out Alexander. I think you might like it

I think that's a little extreme to call it an abomination. I had a really good time with this movie and it's one of my favourite remakes. Sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy it.

Hi Keith, I'm sure you're probably aware of it but just in case you missed it ViaVision in Australia have released a 1500 only limited edition 4K and blu-ray version of the Saw franchise with a reverse bear trap model. I know you like your show pieces only downside it's over 300 euros with postage.
Yes I found out about this a few months ago and unfortunately as beautiful as the release is I can't justify spending €300 for it. This already came out in Germany a couple of years ago where you get the complete collection on Blu-ray and I'm almost certain you can get it cheaper than €300. Maybe someday if it goes for a lot cheaper. But thanks for the heads up
