EASY to see why FIVE world renown orchestras were all vying for Mr.Morales talents as their principal clarinetist, at the same time! A truly amazing talent.
Just about everyone that plays this piece does so on the same model basset clarinet, the buffet RC, Morales sounds very different because he is using a selmer basset clarinet with a backun bell and barrel, it really does wonders for his tone, its still the best I have heard
This guy has held or been offered principal positions at the Met, the Philadelphia Orchestra, The Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. (Any more that I missed?) He's one of the best in the World.
I love his interpretation. This is a stellar performance! It's weird I can't find this video on mobile, only on the computer. But I am SO thankful that it is still here!
This performance was the best performance I have ever heard of Mozart Clarinet Concerto. It surpasses everything else Ive ever heard. If you listen right at 11:05..this note is almost always out of tune with 99% of all clarinet players. Not with ricardo.
@CLYWGNARWHALS It's a modern reproduction of a period instrument called a basset clarinet. It's what Anton Stadler, the man for whom this concerto was written, would have played it on.
I think the problem with the sound balance between the soloist and the orchestra has to do with the microphones...because the director would have noticed on stage that problem and would have make the adjustments. Besides that...the rest is great.
Wonderful musical performance, albeit during a period of time under the horrible Chavez regime. Whoever operated the camera was horrible and should have been focused on the soloist on specific technical parts throughout but had the camera pointed elsewhere during these times; obviously had the hots for the flute player. A doer for sure, but there were a couple violin players & a cellist who looked hotter to me. Great piece for that.
Julliard is just a name, no one cares what name is on your diploma or what awards you won. This industry really is as close to a true meritocracy as you can get, your playing is the only thing that truly matters.

Ricardo was born with a clarinet in his mouth!
Best I've ever heard. Definitely the tone quality that I want.

Reilly King Jon Manasse has the best Mozart clarinet concerto for sure
Il miglior suono di Morales di sempre, secondo me il clarinetto Selmer sembra fatto su misura, BRAVO!

Should have had Boston....

Excellent performance!
Grandissimo Ricardo!
0:35 the 1st part 2nd chair violinist's bowtie though :PPPP
He is a great clarinet player, and Mike Hammer fixed most of his clarinets.
It's the selmer recital basset clarinet in A
Gorgeous!
Very nice
i love it

It isn't when I play it! Ever!! I'm part of the 1%! But he doesn't squeak in parts like I can....

EXCELLENT !!
VERY GOOD.
Practice practice practice!
I sure hope you're kidding, because Ricardo Morales is a faculty member at Julliard.
Though I'm sure he'd be extremely flattered that you thought he was so young ;)
Am I the only one to notice the second Violinist has his bow tie to the side?
Does anybody know where to find a discography of Mr. Morales? I found almost nothing.
I just found out about him today

that is basset clarinet, right?
Yes
How do I get my Clarinet to sound like that?

That's pretty good.
Do you think he could get into Juilliard if he practices more?
he teaches at Juilliard.
This guy is pretty good. All-state player?
;)
ricardo sounds great. too bad the orchestra is not sensible to him and covers him up...
