    You touched on the evolution of hibernation. I’m wondering if the ice age had an effect on the evolution of bears. Do you know if there was an evolutionary predecessor to black bears during that time?

      I'm not sure exactly what the ice age impact on hibernating was. But, I do know the ice age had a massive impact on bears in general. Mostly, a negative one as even the Polar Bear, who would seemingly be built perfect for an Ice Age barely survived it.
