damn bro, you REALLY pushed for that 10 minute mark, huh
I really like long videos so this is perfect for me
@mrpickledeggs I like your Humor, Sir.

This is the only acceptable amount of time to properly discuss this game ,
I love long time and long things.
Underneath my METAL GEAR I have a BIG BOSS that is a SOLID SNAKE right now, and it is great for RAIDEN.
NO! That is NOT Solid Snake!
I bet it's RISING for more than just REVENGEANCE

This makes my Naked Snake Solid :)
I just released the LIQUID!

“RAIDEN! TURN THE GAME CONSOLE OFF NOW”
Words that shook me to my core
Lol
*Y O U D O N O T D E S E R V E T O B E F R E E*
I remember I was friends with some brothers and they literally turned off the console and I just said no keep playing.
that shit actually made me turn off my ps2 because by the time that I got to that point in the story it was like 2am. when he became a skull and said that I got really scared and thought it was some sort of copy protection thing and didn't play it again until the next morning when I confirmed with my dad, that was in fact supposed to happen.
Bro i played this just a couple months after 9/11, and this whole ending had my gd hairs straight up on end for HOURS
Nah that AI Conversation is lowkey the most scariest moment in any video game because of how well it has aged.
I can’t believe the Patriots copyright system tried to keep you from uploading for so long
This is exactly what I signed up for.
Two hours of Dumbsville gushing about Metal Gear Solid 2.
buss
Think when he gets to MGS3 he's gonna make it 3 hours long? If he decides to make it 3 hours long I expect him to put the full ladder climb
@@DefinitelyFroggyDioBrando And considering how long MGS4 is, 4 hours of MGS4 isn't a stretch
“Newgrounds Era” Early Internet: MGS2 sucks. This story is too complicated, I wanna play as Snake.
“YTP-2016Surrealism Era” Internet: haha, MGS2 is the best because “A DUD?!”
“Post-Irony Era” Internet: Peak MGS, Bravo Kojima
MGS2 is peak "you won't understand it, but your kids will love it"
Raiden and Colonel talking about AI usage is gonna play out 100% as meme'd.
To be honest, I absolutely loved it when I was a kid playing it for the first time. And the ending was creepy as hell, I sat through it all.
as the game says, echo chambers stall evolution.
The La Li Lu Le Lo was really quiet after this one dropped
Bro where are you they loud as fuck
The whole conversation with Raiden where he says: "I'll decide for myself what to believe in"
and they clap back with: "But is that even your own idea?"
"Or something Snake told you?"
Is the absolute pinnacle of an ideological roast
Also I like Rose and I think her writing was extremely on the nose in the beginning completely on purpose. Her actual character shown during the later half is actually really well realized
Exactly, a bunch of dummies decided to hat3 the shit out of her which, to be honest I started to become a little distraut at her in mgs4 when she did..what she did.
But in Kojima fashion it was all for a reason not to be taken at face value. Which, unfortunately, a bunch of people who play metal gear do.
Kojima reportedly modeled Rose after his own wife.
One thing I'd like to add about Solidus and his child soldiers. The First Liberian Civil War happened in 1989, and Solidus was born in 1974, 2 years after Solid and Liquid, so when all of the child soldier shit happened he was only 15. Not only that but it's highly likely it was all done by the patriots, so that means they made a teenager create a child soldier unit, holy fuck. It also kinda humanises him more, since it shows how much of his life was controlled and what travesties he was forced to.
That's a point driven home further in MGSV, where smol Liquid had his own platoon at a younger age, got roped into Diamond Dogs, and ultimately conned the bigger operation for its resources to later one-up them, once Outer Heaven fell apart. He even had his own groomed super soldier (Psycho Mantis) driven insane by mental torture, killed by their loose ends (Solid Snake) and was ultimately being sheparded by the organization he swore to destroy (Ocelot's connection to the Patriots).
Birds of a feather flock together, but also have a habit of flying into the sun.
But remember his rapid aging which caused him to age quickly
He ages faster. And also, they refer to him as a true clone. He wasn't actually born like solid and liquid. He was just straight up created. That's how I understand it.
@@neringalukoseviciute1787he was still mentally 15, even if he looked about say, 30
@@zaiden_2006Exactly, he was very likely fucked in the head because of that.

I saw this comment 2 hours 19 minutes and 19 seconds ago and wondered what it ment. I now understand
Dumbsville made a video about MGS2 with the length of the actual gameplay of MGS2
Kojima really deserves props for inventing the first nightmare type game.
Can you recommend other ones that are similar (I love profound media that haunt but also teach me)
Play who's Lila. You'll love it
Are u still 17?
1:16:30 the fact that classified blueprints of some military vehicle got leaked on the war thunder forums a few weeks ago AGAIN is hilarious
As a filthy zoomer, MGS2 unironically blew my mind away when I first played it when I was 19 on my PS3 and is still my favorite Metal Gear game next to 3.
Peak Kojungus writing.
Bro playing this and MGS3 back to back within a month was just 😭😭😭
Peak bro 😭😭
Your ass is NOT a zoomer
MGS2 is like a weirdly peak horror game in itself with some of that meta shit.
“She Metal on my Gear till I’m Solid”
So true
Summary of mainline Metal Gear Solid games:
Revolver Ocelot trolls everyone involved in execution of Boss's will, wins by manipulating everyone and doing absolutely nothing, to stay away from this mess.
Yes, him being born on the beaches of Normandy is absolutely crucial to the plot.

holy fucking shit it finally released
36:28 The "Godzilla vs King Kong" bit cuts a bit deeper than that. Godzilla is also mentioned in MGS3, and has a lot of parallels to Naked Snake: both of them were mutated from atomic testing to not only be sterile, but to go on the assault once its territory was threatened, and could only be stopped once a bigger threat threatens Godzilla. Meanwhile, King Kong was found on an indigenous island as a natural treasure contained within a wilderness to experience freedom, but was later caged when modern civilizations realized he was worth his weight in gold. He was later ensnared by raiders and was tormented, but endured it for Ann whom he had feelings for. He only escapes when the coast is clear, but in New York, there's only so many places to hide. And yes, there is a Son of Kong spinoff too. He was taken down by *biplanes,* Jacks if you will.
In addition, the original "Godzilla vs. Kong" was a compromise after Toho couldn't get their intended monster. The previous title? "Godzilla vs. Frankenstein".
This reference is so big it spilled over to the sequels.
I met David Hayter at a anime convention in Portland. He asked me what my favorite game in the series was and I told him it was Mgs2
I can somehow imagine him doing that in the solid snake voice
"So kid, what's your favorite metal gear game huh?"
This game’s deceptive marketing with Raiden being hidden from the trailers is like TLOU 2 if it was good
Also, I gotta say, after thinking about it, I feel like this video has made me realize that Solidus is lowkey my favorite MGS antagonist
The entirety of this game is "what did Hideo "games" "LA CREATIVIDAD" Kojima mean by this" and I love it. Like all pissing and shitting around aside, this genuinely might be my favorite game of all time and a game that shaped who I am today: an autistic king.
Me when I’m in a gaslighting competition and my opponent is rose:
Fun fact! I believe if you call Otacon on the Codec enough time, Meiling will have a voiced cameo
Save specificity
Missed opertinity to release this video on April 30th smh
But not too late to realize the importance of the day
Maybe it was gonna if it wasnt for the copyright claim
Raiden, disregard what I just told you. The most important thing for you to do now is enjoy a mouth-watering Egg McMuffin Sandwich from the new All-Day Breakfast Menu at McDonald's. All of your favourite McDonald's breakfast items, now available all day at participating McDonald's restaurants.
And Raiden, always remember; I'm loving it.
Ah yes, the video you fought for finally arrives
MY SNAKE IS SO SOLID RN🔥🔥🔥
I still hold one of my favourite moments involving this game was showing my friend the later codec calls with the patriot AI Cambell and Rose when they started talking about the internet and the moden day.
My man went from semi memeing and joking to looking like something just phased through a wall in front of him, most of the shit the AI spoke about can apply to the modern Internet and it's amazing
1 hour and 19 minutes for The first review...
2 hours and 19 minute's for this second review...
Good lord i can't even imagine how long the 3rd review will take or if he will do all of them to Metal Gear Revengeance...
MGS' meta humor makes me wish Kojima would make a Deadpool game.
Gonna be real, the fact this game manages to explore and cover one of the most important messages that anyone can ever really be given to learn, and the fact people who played this game [presumably to the end] literally disregarded this and called the game bad is abysmally absurd
The fact this video has a few thousand views is criminal, I'm sure others have gone through the game before and cut it apart to analyze every line of dialog, but the way this is formatted makes this information alot easier to understand and absorb, so good job on that
"Metal Gear Solid 2" and "Legend of Zelda Wind Waker" are the two biggest examples of how stupid fanbases can be, and funnily enough both issues almost solely happened because of the trailers of said games.
the fanbase was in awe they were dissatisfied with not being snake. and raiden is only a little cooler by the end of the game but is pretty lame throughout
This is a genuinely beautiful video. It’s gotten me to relive what I had felt, gone through, while playing MGS2.
Seriously, thank you Dumbsville.
Near the end when Snake was talking to Raiden about how his experiences are his alone, reminded me about something i learned in my Philosophy of Mind class i took last year. In that no one has access to your mind, and what reality is is ultimately up to you, given you cannot know what someone else is thinking and feeling, and they cant in return. I first found it terrifying, but found comfort in knowing that my experience is my own, and given that, it made me appreciate reality and existence more. Thanks dumbsy for this epic video, and thank Hideo Kojima for creating peak fiction.
This is it. This is the magnum opus of the Dumbsville Canon.
3:11 mfs be saying "MGS1 introduced games as an artform" while slandering the GOAT ecco the dolphin
You forgot that if you shoot the box, "pliskin" complains about it on the codec
You know what’d be cool if they remade it. If they advertised it as the game that showed what Raiden did before becoming a cyborg
So basically the original concept mgrr
Dumbsville This is probably one of your best videos Of All time
Love your Videos
Hideo Kojima going back in time to cause the Red Scare so a bunch of writers could make political commentary so it would lead to him making peak fiction:
The thumbnail is by far my favorite one so far. COOKED ON THAT ONE.
oh, and the video is good to :)
No fiction is more peak than Gez: enter the geico
Pretty sure Harry Gregson Williams just composed the main theme. Most of the other in game songs were composed by Norihiko Hibino. Great video though 👍
Williams did the cutscene tracks, while Hibino wrote the in game tracks and was the lead composer, he also remixed some of William's stuff to fit the cutscenes better.
@@dsa2505 thanks for the correction. Such a fantastic overall score.
Snake: Raiden you truly are John metal gear and I’m honored to call you a friend.
Harry Gregson-Williams was not the only composer on MGS2, but also Norihiko Hibino. He composed the tracks that you showcased for how good the music is :). Essentially, most gameplay tracks are composed by Hibino, and most cutscene tracks are composed by Gregson-Williams.
I like that in every Metal Gear Solid, Ocelot is the only one that knows what is going on.
watching this video was terrifying because my computer is kinda old and actually does freeze and crash sometimes, i kept forgetting that it was part of the video
The first video hard reeled me into MG as a series, and after spending hours looking into the entire series from videos and such, I got REALLY excited waiting for this video to come out. I absolutely love how Dumbsville handled and explained everything, and I'm hella excited to see more, good job dude!
Thank you. Dumbsville.
Thank you for talking about stuff like this and passing it on.
I truly do, salute you.
refreshed my youtube for two days straight waiting for this video, still can’t believe this hasn’t hit 100k yet amazing video brother
I love how Kojima with each game it is the Lore gets a lot more exciting like to get to know more about why they're doing this and who's behind this is so interesting this is why I love metal gear it's one of my favorite franchises
I honestly needed this. This video is really good, well-edited and the message this game has is something everyone needs to hear and understand. Love your vids Dumbsy, this was well worth it.
Dumbsville really kept us waiting with this banger huh.
This is one of your best videos editing wise, absolutely outstanding work.

I've been waiting for you to drop for what feels like ages. Glad to see the MGS2 video finally here 🎉🎉
Man this is some great content, i love the metal gear series, and i hope the low view count doesn't scare you away from making more. Great explanations, I was able to understand the message much more clearly.
This took a lot of work and I appreciate you taking the time out of your day to do this. Thank you so much man. This was so good!
Just started getting back into metal gear this past week and the timing of this video is VERY interesting. Thanks for reviewing my favorite in the series!
i wonder if this guy whose nickname sounds a lot like snake pliskin from escape from new york is solid snake
Jesus, almost 2 hours and editing is so masterful, especially on the Arsenal part
That false video ending at the 1hr 32min mark was genuinely terrifying even after playing the game twice because I've had almost all of those videos in my recommended feed in the past couple days
I remember playing this game when it came out. I was high and had to walk outside for a while to convince myself my world was real and i wasn't dreaming. Epic game
Snake snakes his way through a soild situation
This was a fantastic video. Can't wait to see you talking about Snake Eater for 3 hours.
Yes! Thank you so much for finally uploading this! Ever since I saw your Bronies review I've been obsessed with this game. Definitely my favorite in the Trilogy.
I've never had the chance to play MGS 1 or 2 but I've been captivated by your videos about them, your narration and editing skills are phenomenal, thank you for putting so much effort into making this
If the video for MGS3 is 3 hours long, you are obligated to make the video on MGS4, 4 hours long.
HOLY SHIT!!!!!
man all the speeches in the end of this game are just so incredible just insanely well written pieces
This is one your best videos imo dude.actually looking forward to watching the vid abt mgs3
It's amazing how when people do videos about the games they loved the most you can feel It all because the quality is so much better than normal
Gona tell my kids this was the metal gear solid movie
I came here looking for another MGS2 funny video, but left with an existential crisis.
I now remember why I don't watch MGS2 commentaries often. This is gut-wrenching. I played this as a kid. I could barely speak Portuguese, let alone English. I had no idea what the story was, but the game was the single most impressive thing I had ever witnessed.
It wasn't until years later, when I was starting to get into politics and all the anti-political discussions, second guessing all the definitions of liberty and free will, that I dove knee deep into MGS2. Until then I knew how good the game was. I knew how good the story was. I understood the parallels with MGS1 and modern society, but it wasn't nothing close to the real thing. Heck, I think I still don't fully grasp MGS2.
One thing's for certain: this game has not only changed my life, but my perception of everything. After watching this video, I just had a 1h talk with my mom about it. Trying to de-videogame-izing it. One thing I got clear from the conversation: this game will never be fully dissected, because all it is doing is deconstructing human nature. Reality is no more than convenient truths, we pass one another, and choose to believe. Genes don't define us, but they're the predominant source of human information. Self doesn't exist. I'm a sum of it all. I'm a sum of me, you, and all the Raidens around me. We're mere pawns trying to demystify nature. We mapped the human gene. We split atoms in half. We created divine stories to justify our existence... After all, we're just fabricating truths strong enough to keep us going, in search of one (any) fact.
I will forever be thrilled by this game. I will forever keep looking into commentaries of this game. And I will, more likely than not, comeback to this video in a short time (especially the Arsenal chapter), to give this another go, and try to link it to today's world.
This video was a true work of a patriot.
Espace from New York is my favourite Kojima movie.
"Kept us waiting, huh"
Imagine some idiot SoundCloud artist copyright claims you for using music they sampled and didn't own.
This video’s fucking amazing, can’t wait for the MGS3 review
Nice content dude, thank you for your work!
When I first played this I had an absolute blast but Emma section really got to me.
To not get too personal I’ll just say that I had a half sister who experienced something absolutely terrible thanks to my own biological father. So when I saw Emma’s last moments it really fucked with me and made me cry for several minutes.
This game became really personal to me and quickly became one of my favorite games of all time
another good video finally it came out hoping you will make a MGS3 video 💪💪
Good video! Well worth the wait.
I was gonna be upset if Dumbsville didn't add the McDonalds bit at the end.
Legitimately teared up, thank you for this
If I were to make a metal gear solid 2 spiritual successor, I'd have it to where you got some headset that helps you auto aim and you could take it off at any point. At some points you may find that the soldier you shot, maybe killed, was just an officer doing his duty, or even a normal citizen. The AI obviously controlling the headset if you found out, saying they are bettering humanity by removing the problematic factors of civilization. Further, if you refuse to go along with the AI's plan, they mark you as a enemy of the states.
I dunno. Plot point I thought of on the spot.
New Smartstown video!!!
I’ve had this game as my all time favorite since I first played in a couple years after release. I thought that I’ve watched all the video essays, Easter eggs, timelines, etc. and there was nothing else new that I hadn’t heard before in the past 20 years until you pointed out fortunes theme. I truly thought that nothing new could be uncovered, but I’m glad I was wrong, almost brought me back to that kid that fell in love with the game tho first time. So thank you for that
Holy moly this has to be the best youtube video i have ever watched.
I guess this is one of the things you will pass on.

I really appreciate these videos man
I'm happy to have experienced peak content. Thanks so much, Dumbsville. I can't even be ironic or make a joke, I love this lol
Why are you yelling?
GET THAT YAM OFF YO FACE
I really appreciate the way you made this video in a way that recreates the feeling of playing the game and isn't simply a recap. I love video games but I don't play many of them myself, so it's kind of annoying when some "story analysis" or "retrospective" video essays are structured in a way that feels like it's completely spoiling everything or just giving a boring run down of plot points instead of helping me to appreciate the game. I didn't feel like that at all with this video it's so well done! Super good watch whether you've played the game, only know the plot, or know nothing at all :)
This was a great video!! 👏🏻
2+ hours of Dumbsville is the perfect addition to my day
