- We found a turkey nest in our backyard. Now somebody needs to lay on this egg to hatch it into a little baby turkey chick. Any volunteers?

Hi there! 👋🏻 We live on a 1-acre farm right in the middle of the busy city of Phoenix, Arizona! Our names are Kevin & DaNelle, and we moved here in 2009, when our kids Ethan & Lydia were just 6 & 4 years old 🥰 Over the years we've raised goats for milk, chickens for eggs, built a fish/swim pond, planted fruit & nut trees, and grew a large garden full of veggies. We've also raised a bunch of other animals like pigs, sheep, turkeys, geese, peacocks, and more!
Now that our kids are away at college, we have settled into doing what we love most -- which is raising & breeding goats ethically to improve genetics. But don't worry, we'll forever love our goofy pet goats like Luna the herd queen & Willow the stump lover. We also still love raising chickens for eggs, gardening, tending to the fruit & nut trees, and growing fish in the pond. We use the fresh goat's milk to make cheese, butter, yogurt -- and we use that + everything else we harvest on our little farm to make delicious meals. Having a getaway from the busy world right in our backyard brings so much joy to us each day, and we hope it brings some to you, too. 🥰

I had a broody turkey, they are not the best mothers and clumbsily would crush the babies. Once the babies start hatching it best to take the babies away. I don't know if it just because they are domesticated to be heavier and we bred the broodiness out of them. But good luck I will look forward to seeing that video!!!

Silkie chickens are wonderful and go broody often. Or get an incubator.
I got silkie hens specifically to hatch my rhode island reds so I didnt have to have an incubator. Lol
This is just my knowledge from experience of keeping quails, so it might be different.
(People, don't get triggered if I get it wrong)
- I heard that the birds first few bunch of eggs are just for practice and may not be fertile
- They do sit on eggs, they have to keep it on a certain temperature. So, they go on eggs and off if it gets too warm for the eggs.
- Yes, when there is enough eggs for Kiwi to start being a good mommy for the future chicks. My quails are being broody (The father is being good and has been keeping the eggs warm since the first one)
- They need somewhere they feel safe, away from any harm.
(If they get too stressed, they might get injured in the process of trying to get away from the harm)
- Also, somewhere they can have privacy.
I keep a log of the dates when the eggs are found and the color, so I can figure out when the eggs will hatch.
Also, if the parents doesn't want to warm the eggs themselves, homemade incubator might help. (Kevin)
*Rodents can get though even just 1cm (if you can stick through your finger and take it without any problem, I suggest to make the holes smaller or make the area above the ground (enough so both emu and kiwi can access it and not the other animals on the farm)*
I know another farm channel that have laid peachicks before (they are a large bird so the techniques may be similar to hatch the eggs) the channel is *White House on the hill*
If you are stuck, maybe try to contact with them. (if it's possible)
You could help each other in the future
With Turkey Tommies (females) they lay their clutch.. one egg a day . returning to the nest JUST to lay that one egg. once their full clutch is laid then she will sit on them. They dont sit until the clutch is fully laid

its true! Turkeys gather a clutch just like chickens. once she has 3-5 eggs, she might start brooding. I've had so many broody hen turkeys, I'd gather eggs and then just hand them over.

I know why you are not keeping Hope, but that poor kid has had a rough life. She was born and her mother didn't want, she was the only kid that had to take a few bottles, and now you don't want her. Coming from a chef, you can take a few extra steps to make those brownie bites a little bit tastier.
Use honey instead of maple syrup
Add some cinnamon and vanilla
And most important tip: toast the coconut flakes. Use a pan and brown them just slightly. It’ll give them a nuttier, more earthy flavor.

My Aunt used to but cream cheese in her chocolate cake batter and also in her frosting. It made the cake moist and the frosting had a little tart taste. It was good. Since goat cheese to me has a kinda of cream cheese/ cottage cheese taste maybe you can try that.
Frozen hoses... The bane of my existence! We bring the goats' water from the house in the wintertime, but the horses are a whole 'nother story... Let's just say I've built up muscle from carrying 5-gallon water jugs all over the place!

When we had turkeys decades ago, we'd have a box in the chciken coop on the ground for the females. But you have the chickens free ranging around your goats and they were stealing the chicken feed. I'd make a turkey coop for your pair so she will feels safe enough to brood. Oh and turkeys aren't that smart. Mine would sleep directly below the chicken roost and got pooped on even though there was plenty of open space with hay for them to sleep.
I've never had to deal with a frozen hose, I guess that's a perk of sunny SoCal 🤣

1 box of chocolate cake mix
2 tbs of water
1/2 cup of chocolate chips (Optional)
Mix! Bake at 350° then check for doneness after 20 minutes :)♡
