Very useful info!! You confirmed my instincts about where I am in this GREAT adventure. I will indeed use jamzone. Cool idea. I am 67 years young and enjoying my guitar more than I ever dreamed I would. Just starting to come away from the sheet music...so satisfying and motivating. Keep up your great videos please!
Same age as you, 67. Having a great time learning guitar. One thing I'm continuing to learn is not go overboard. Keep it simple. If I try to get too much knowledge...theory, scales, caged system, etc., it can be frustrating. I'm taking it slow learning chords to songs and yes playing along with the songs. Great tips for us beginners.
@@johnnygreenway3579 so i started to get a bit ahead of myself & quickly realised thats not the thing to do after having a ‘this is just impossible moment’. Good advice & i will now just concentrate on the grade 1 & get proficient before moving on.
I spent 2 years just getting chord shapes down. And understanding timing. And understanding note Values. Didn't try and play anything. Just studying guitar. 7 days a week for 2 years. So, the last 6 months learning and playing songs.. main thing is be patient and don't get frustrated. You will catch on..
@@liberalsrmentallyflawed3611 yeah just going to try and enjoy the journey after all it’s just a hobby at my age, if i can sit out in the garden and play a few songs in a couple of years or so I’ll be more than happy. Thanks for the advice 👍
Could be a couple of things getting in the way. Is your guitar set so the action is low? A high action will cause hand and finger fatigue making it hard to fret the chords correctly. It could be that your thumb needs to slightly lower towards the floor to allow your fingers to come around and up on their tips. You might be holding too much tension in your hand and gripping the guitar too tightly. Only your thumb and fingertips should be touching the guitar. If you notice that other parts of your hand are touching (especially around the high 'e' string, this is a sign you are squeezing too hard. Sight unseen, I am only guessing though. It is easier visually to diagnose and remedy this.
Hello! Play regularly but in small stints. It's the fastest way to get through fingertip pain. The more you play, the quicker those callouses will develop
Cheers, that was super useful.
Glad to hear. Thank you :-)

In the last 6 months learning and playing songs, wasn't that more fun and rewarding for you?

@@allenhopgoodAllen are you in Sydney?
My chords sound muted however hard I try. Don't know why my finger touches the lower string. I've been trying for 4 months and don't seem to improve.
