    Graham's biggest quality is his ability to stay silent and let the team do the talking on the field. That helped alot, he let Peru do all the talking and its a 'formality'. The aussies were always going to have the advantage of playing UAE in Qatar 7 days earlier, to give them belief in this game. Peru had to go from their last qualifier on 30th March to a play-off on 13th June - mentally they were a little off.

    • @eliaspap8708
      @eliaspap8708 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Really? Graham was doing a heck of a lot of shouting all game long from the sideline, his always been like that even with Sydney FC. He was only quiet during the penalty shoot out because he couldn’t bare to watch and nothing a coach can do in that situation anyway. I thought the Peruvian coach was a lot calmer. Maybe I was watching a different game.

    100% big call from Arnie but it did pay off his antics put of the Peruvian to hit the post, the water bottle as well got into the Peruvian Keepers head. Even meeting our players at the 18 yard box was big just to calm our boys. The mind games he played to get us through was big. Jerzey Dudek did the same against Milan in 2005 the reality is it works to put players off. Big win and the way Peru prepped for the game cost them. They trained in Barca Spain and came 3 days before the game and shocked them how hot it was. The assistant for Peru actually mentioned it, but the Socceroos by this point were already used to the conditions.

    I’m Brazilian- Australia goalkeeper sheet- The player taking the penalty kick must kick the ball forward; backheeling is permitted provided the ball moves forward. When the ball is kicked, the defending goalkeeper must have at least part of one foot touching, in line with, or behind, the goal line. The ball is in play when it is kicked and clearly moves.

If taken correctly the keeper has little chance to save one even if he dives the right way. The speed/power these guys can kick the ball from 11 metres it is in the net before the keeper can dive the right way. Only when a player folds under pressure do the odds swing the keepers way.

      1 in 4 penalties at this level are saved usually because the player fluffed it rather than keeper saved it. At the speed/power these players hit the ball if they do the penalty right it is in the net before the keeper can get down to it etc. Nowhere near these guys class but over 20 years took at least 10 a year and missed Zero so hardly anything to do with luck.

    • @fang.clarkec7584
      @fang.clarkec7584 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@saintsone7877 if you were to retake the pen's the other team that lost the first pen shootout would now have opportunity to win just as easy. Any dope can kick the ball from that distance in the back of the net. Therefore it becomes chance if one misses or the keeper guesses right way. Never been anything but luck in shootouts. Its an exciting climax to the game that ends with a gamble.

    • @saintsone7877
      @saintsone7877 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fang.clarkec7584 Sorry but not correct. Full time professionals under the pressure of the situation miss the goals to either side, kicking way over the top etc so No, any dope cannot kick the ball from that distance in the back of the net. Bad assumption. Even if the keeper guesses the right way it is no certainty he /she will save the goal. As stated earlier, at the speed and power these players are capable of kicking the ball, it is in the back of the net before the keeper can dive down to save it etc. Only when a player fluffs the kick and does not get maximum speed/power can the keeper react in time to get a hand etc to it.
      A cool headed player who has practised and perfected the art of taking a penalty will score every time. Luck, has zero input. Sheer mechanics of the penalty makes it impossible for a keeper to save a properly taken penalty shot. Nerves, inability to handle the pressure, lack of confidence or a poorly placed shot are the reasons for misses/saves not luck.

    It would have better to have Peru in the World Cup.😢 Just look at their large traveling fans. I'm a Qatari and I was amazed by the energy they brought to Doha. 12k fans traveled to this match via long flights. I also hate Australian press and all the BS they spout on Qatar hosting this tournament. Nonetheless, congratulations to Aussies.

      Yes abosolutely congratulations are in order for the Aussies, it is a win they well and truly fought hard for. Not sure what you are referring to in relation to the Australian press? I know that thousands of migrant workers have died in the preparations for Qatar 2022.

      Or the fact that your country won the hosting rights through bribery so your national team can finally play in the world cup because we all know you couldn't make it on your own 😂

      Maybe because of all the people that died making your stadiums that will probably be empty after the World Cup? The World Cup date has also been changed due to the harsh weather, disrupting all football seasons around the globe. Lastly, Australia already had the facilities available and would have approached the World Cup in a far more ethical manner, but Qatar and FIFA don’t give a rats about ethics.

    Did we dominate that game? I dont recall us having any real chances to score, or even really threaten their goal. Cant say the same for Peru.
