Lockdown with Brompton CHPT3, Do it yourself installation of EE brakes, KCNC & DT Swiss Shifter

For many of us that are staying home due to COVID 19 pandemic, we understand how eager you are to go out during this lockdown, it is always better to have close family members who can serve as a buffer to minimize potential stress reactions while working from home and spending our weekends isolated. Now that they want everyone to isolate themselves and to engage in social distancing, this is the perfect time for us to fiddle around with our Bromptons and, for us, to finish our long-overdue project.
We will be installing;

KCNC VB6 V6 Bike Brake Levers 65g Extra Light 1pr Black
Ti Parts Workshop Brompton - EE brake Adapter & Reverse Wires Guiding Set
Ti Parts Workshop Titanium Rear Derailleur Spring for Brompton
Ti Parts Workshop Derailleur Cable Anchorage for Brompton shifter
ACE Derailleur Cable Guide Stop for Brompton Overbar Shifter springs
Nevertheless, the coronavirus pandemic provides an ideal opportunity to reconnect and strengthen relationships within the family and our bikes!

I love the EE brakes-especially the quick release feature-something that's missing on Brompton brakes

Yes it does Bisonvidz, it works really well with the stock Brompton Levers.
Hi, i bought the EE Brake too but with the H&H adapter the tyre is too near the caliper and slink on it. Where did you buy the TI Parts adapter? Thank YOU!! C
it is available in Ebay, highly recommended, they also have the Ti Parts arms that replace the original EE brakes for bigger tires.

Hey Snaz, we used DT Swiss two in one remote for the thumb shifter.
Hi i saw that you use DT shifter is this CHPT 3 still use 3 x 2 speed? or it has been change to external?
What type is the shifter does it work if we still use the 3 x 2 speed?
Hello Adi, this is CHPT3 2 speed version, for the DT shifter it can be use for 2 or 3 speed external. if you want to change the original shifter which works perfectly for 3x2 Brompton gears, try to go for maybe DT swiss thumb shifter for left and right.

agung bhakti wiratama we used the Ridea 56T oval chainring, so far so good!

love this video. ive watched it an insane number of times. thank you for sharing it, it's almost therapeutic. the downside is that i now want to spend a load of money on my own Brompton! Have you had the opportunity to test the dt swiss shifter? how would you rate it? looks, and sounds, like it would be lovely to use.
Thanks for that uplifting comment, we are always happy to share and inspire, we keep on trying different combinations some failed and that is what we called experience but this makes us happy and for some as well.
DT Swiss shifter is amazing! You will never regret replacing those plastic shifters.

I hope you dont mind me asking some more questions about your video. i have a two speed brompton and there is a 2 position version of the dt swiss shifter (open and lock) available, do you think this would be suitable for me? Also, i note that you replaced the spring assembly adjacent to the derailleur, would i need to do this as well or do you think i could use the exisiting components there? Many thanks, Chris
@@cswjames this CHPT3 Brompton is 2 speed so it is suitable to your setup and you don't need to replace the spring to make it work, you could use your existing original components with DT Swiss shifter, your questions are welcome here anytime man!

Wow.. Which DT swiss model of shifter is that, can i used it for 6-speed brompton?
Hi Wei, this DT swiss is for 2-3 speed only, sorry man
So in theory, 2 plus 3 speed shifters allow you to use it for a 6 speed, but the DT Swiss Shifter only works well when mounted on the right handle bar. I have the 3 speed and love it. A pain to tune but once you get it right, it's a very satisfying clickly shifter.

Hi bungee28, i wonder if you could help me? I have a 2 speed brompton and have bought the above shifter after seeing this video. I am struggling to install it though, because the cable seems to end in the spring part by the derailer and not the shifter. Is there another bit, such as a barrel nut, that I need to get or do I need to replace the whole spring assembly bit? Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks Chris
@@cswjames Hi Chris, that's correct. After market shifters require you to replace the cable anchor at the end of the derailleur cable. Someone else did it for me. You can see an example in the photos here: th-cam.com/video/Ic7FgPfz2qA/w-d-xo.html
Indonesia has a brand called Element Pikes. It is a copy of a brompton. Is it a licensed brompton or a copy?

Nice video but it is an unfair comparison to weigh kcnc bare brake levers to brompton units which even have an integrated bell still attached.
Hi PJ, we did include the bell to see the difference of what we are loosing in terms of total weight in replacing the original Brompton brake levers. Good to know you are really paying attention PJ! Thanks and keep safe.
