Wow. The lack of interest on the creator’s part is so obvious. Apparently, the reason Moon the Moon was so complete was because Maxwell Atoms had to recycle a script called “Billy and Mandy vs the Martians” into the episode. And given how he and Craig McCracken have spoken at length about how everyone knew this was a bad idea, I think that what CN should have done was pitch the idea to the different shows, and see who would’ve wanted to take part in it. I know that’s super unlikely, but I’m spitballing here.

CN is highly experimental with its animation. Their cartoonists give you the impression that they walk around their studios wearing lab coats all day. But like any other company, these scientists still have to adhere to the whims of the executives who don't really know a thing about actual research. SMH.

Yeah!! It could’ve been a two part episode special of Ben against an eldritch alien who is extremely powerful against Ben, and wins in the end, though the ending he says that this isn’t the main timeline, just a mere alternate timeline that you shouldn’t worry about. Because he is that powerful. A cosmic observer who only intervene when he thinks it would be interesting in an alternate outcome. Like Cthulhu or something like that.

I think there actually was something a bit similar to this done on the USA Network with 4 of its cartoons; Street Fighter episode The Warrior King, The Savage Dragon episode Endgame, Mortal Kombat: Defenders of the Realm episode Resurrection, and Wing Commander Academy episode Recreation. They each revolved around a magic orb that a Conan the Barbarian type character voiced by Michael Dorn was trying to retrieve.

From what a little I’ve heard of it (I saw Phelous review that specific episode of Mortal Kombat) it was a better example of a cross through than CN Invaded was. The OC and macguffin were at least a little interesting especially when taking it all together, both of these elements interacted with casts of other shows in one way or another, and because of the nature of the crossover the eps can still be viewed individually without feeling lost. It makes me wish the aliens were more involved in earlier shows without repeating the same plot over and over again.

    • @Garethsmod
      @Garethsmod 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

I think I remember seeing the Mortal Kombat cartoon creators being the least interested in this because they had the character that connected it all show up for all of two seconds in the episode just to jump into a portal in leave lol

So I vaguely remember this event, but I had no idea it was supposed to be one full story and tie-in to each other. I thought it was just ‘CN episodes about aliens’ and that’s it. It’s funny I came across this video though since I just finished a rewatch of Ed Edd n Eddy. I actually like their episode (except for that stupid ending), since it all being Rolf’s family made sense and the themes worked a bit too since Ed was always a fan of monster media. That ending is so ridiculous though.

But looking back at the roster of shows they picked, am I the only one that found it weird that they never considered to use Ben 10? That was Cartoon Network’s ALIEN show. Hmm, the Frankie Part for the presents did "in some form" get into the other shows
Ed, Edd & Eddy: the box contained Bon-Bons "which were empty" that Sarah was carrying and told Jimmy not to eat before bed since he'll get nightmares "because Jimmy did eat the Bon-Bons before bed which caused that nightmare in the first place"
My Gym Partners a Monkey: Slips and Jake finds in the box that carried detergent or was it just stuffed away in Adam's Locker? Idk?
Camp Lazlo: The Box wasn't revealed but Clam was holding it in Strange Trout from Outer Space
Billy & Mandy: We already know it was a shirt/sweater.
I didn't remember much of it myself due to playing video games and the later part of the 2000's Internet as a tweenager "age 10"

But seriously, when I was a child, a wee boy, I was a HUGE fan of everything paranormal and I still am. Ben 10 and The Secret Saturdays were two of my favorites because I was a fan of aliens and cryptozoology. It's because of that that I especially liked the CN Real shows like Unnatural History, Tower Prep and The Othersiders. And when I saw the promos for this, I thought it was going to be an epic crossover with elements of other alien invasion movies that I liked like The War Of The Worlds. Boy, was I wrong. At the time, all I thought was "Meh" because I still liked the shows despite the mediocre nature of these alien episodes. But now that I know that this was basically a failed product placement for Kraft's Macaroni & Cheese, I feel stupid now.

disney channel kinda half did this with their live action shows in the late 2000s, three shows (cory in the house, suite life of zach and cody, and hannah montana) all got visited by the same shooting star and they each had an episode where the main characters of each show have a wish granted and then at the end the star puts them back in time to before they made the wish.

Nickelodeon is the only one of the 3 Kids networks to never once do this type of Crossover tv tropes calls Cross Though and Red Skies crossover. CN did it once with invaded and Disney Channel does it a lot Wish Gone a Miss, HeatWave, MoonMonday madness , Olympic Torch and Monstober 2015 . Nick could and should have done it with the World's Coild that spreading them out instead of mushing them toghther in a 32 min special and one got just a cameo.

Though I have to say, thanks to your video, the cheese obsession of the aliens finally makes sense. (More so than the cheese moon ending's explanation anyway) it makes you wonder what would've happened had kraft not pulled out.

Looking back when I was hyped for the invaded "series" as kid, I knew even back then it was disappointing. I mean all the episodes with the exact same spaceships and alien designs, how does not scream "wasted potential"? And personally I couldn't stand these "no one believes me" stories (there's a good side to the Ed Edd and Eddy one, if you could call it that). Not to say I don't understand why most of the cast don't believe the main characters, but still pretty annoying. But that's not my main problem with most of them. My main problem is the endings of them. You probably could call them cliffhangers, since they'll leave you scratching your head. I mean they sure left _me_ with more questions than answers. The only one I'm a real fan of was the Billy and Mandy one, because of course.

the ending to cheese a gogo scared the ever living shit out of me as a kid when i saw the episode for the first time. i didn't recognize that they were saying cheese, so all i heard was this extremely alien sound creeping in from some clearly outside force that wasn't expected, even by the characters, and it just getting louder and louder as they arrived. it was the same kind of fear that something like signal simulator or voices from the void touch on, in full force for the first time in my life. it was the only part of that episode i remember well, and its hard to find a proper clip of, so it almost feels like i was crazy sometimes. i remember enjoying the ed edd n eddy episode, and it being really outlandish, but that must have been cause i was a kid and ed edd n eddy was always good.

I think I enjoyed this event because I knew none of this was going to lead to a satisfying conclusion with an in-depth story linking all these cartoons together cuz...these cartoons' canon could NEVER cross over in their respective shows. CN City sure but this to me just seemed like a fun gimmick that'd use easter eggs to link them together, LIKE, it was neat seeing how elements from each prior alien kinda linked together before the big reveal in Billy and Mandy. Ironic given it seemed like the kinda extra mile these talented creators just would go to for the sake of it when it was just network mandate.
As for Foster's, NO. I'm sorry there is NO way you can convince me Imposter's Home for Make 'Em Up Pals was NOT the worst. I'll take an episode full of aimless chaos where Frankie is frustrated trying to keep everything together, only to end with her failing but still aiming to help her friends in the end of it, over an episode where she's actively punished for a lazy, obnoxious character's OBVIOUSLY awful scam that he pulled off actively...only for it to be revealed it WASN'T a scam w/ some schmaltzy garbage message at the end. SO garbage I don't believe for a SECOND that JOHN was an imaginary friend, and he was just wearing a fake nose under his fake nose and those were people he hired to get off scott free.
One has Frankie failing with the message of "you were wrong and screw you for being wrong", the other has her failing and going "oh well" more optimistically. Sorry I'm just, VERY heated when it comes to that episode, SCREW "Goofball" John McGee...

2:21 A network had done this before, namely NBC. Not long after rechristening their Thursday sitcom lineup as “Must See TV Thursdays,” they came up with an ambitious crossover stunt for 1994’s November sweeps week: Blackout Thursday. Since their lineup for the ‘94-‘95 season was set entirely in NYC (Mad About You, Friends, Seinfeld, and the short-lived Madman of the People) they decided it would tell an overarching story about a citywide blackout.
None of the showrunners were happy about it, especially the producers of Friends and Madman since both shows were brand new and already being saddled with gimmick episodes. Perhaps most notable was Seinfeld’s refusal to participate in Blackout Thursday despite being promoted for it, the writers and producers unanimously agreed it was a dumb idea and used their clout to give NBC a flat “no.”

@@troin3925 I was already a hardcore Goosebumps fan around that time. I knew there was a tv series but there was never any re-runs on any networks until that year. I wanna say this was around 2007.

At least it got us the masterpiece of The Eds Are Coming.
Outside of that, yeah, they're all pointless looking back on it and realizing, "Oh, the episodes were supposed to be a giant event to sell cheese singlets. Why couldn't they have used Cheetos or Ritz Bits Crackers? Scooby Doo had a contest once for Cheetos...that would have worked!"
Also, I think this was around the time where (foreshadowing) I was getting bored of Cartoon Network for the first time until Regular Show and Chowder. Really the main thing that annoys me is that this wasn't some failed movie marathon promotion of Ed's or a nightmare of his and how they went with...Kraft for their promotion. Kraft, really?
Also, it feels like the Camp Lazlo/Ed, Edd n' Eddy crew were the only ones who kind of gave a shit and the reason KND wasn't in the special is probably because the huge reveal that the Galactic Kids Next Door including Lizzie were aliens would have been severely undermined by the cheese thing though it totally made sense.

Cartoon Network is great for creators, just so long as you don't make the main character a robot.

The Edd Ed n Eddy episode was always kind of weird to me since it acted like this big event taking place in the show until in the end it turned out to be all a fakeout, what I didn't know is that this wasn't just bait for EEE fans, but also bait for the people awaiting this special.
Can't be surprised the Billy & Mandy episode is the best one, that show is near animated perfection.

You know, I never really understood why parents were so quick to ban Ed' Edd' n' Eddy from their households, mine were the exact same way. Maybe it was just too cruel of a show to parents who don't want to expose their kids to a bit of warped reality, same reason why they homeschool them and put... like, no effort into getting them out of the house I guess...

I think it was a bit too grounded in reality compared to a lot of other shows of that era that they were worried about kids trying things at home

How was Ben 10 not a part of this?

The sad part is, this was the perfect opportunity for cartoon network to do a massive movie for some of their most popular shows. Maybe have it be listed as a Grim and Mandy movie but the plot involves other shows...maybe instead of My Gym Partner's a Monkey.

The Ed Ed and Eddy one was the best one cause there's a handful of episodes that can be that crazy if you've seen the show
