Was hoping to get the game for christmas this year, but maybe I'm lucky next year 🫠 I would love to do some mining /salvaging and gotta take a look at these ships more so when I finally get the game I know what to pick, thanks for the vid
the connie should be into S-Tier, nothing can beat it in firepower and cargo so far. Specially when you take the Taurus. Sure it is the most expensive one. and i think its also not an startership in any means. Anything more than 80 dollars should not be considerd an startership. its an advanced ship.
As this video was comparing only the ships that come in the "starter" packages, the specific Connie that I was looking at was the Andromeda. The reason it placed so low is mainly due to the price tag, and size, making it not really a "starter" ship by any stretch of the imagination. If I were to be recommending someone to purchase a game pack, I'd much rather tell them to get the Titan rather than spend $200+ on a ship right out of the gate.
@@AstralGemini Yeah the Andromeda is crazy expensive but I do love that ship. I am renting a taurus as we speak to see how I like it compared to the Andromeda.
@@blackh0l353 I was only looking at ships that are included with starter packages in this video. If umm had included the C1, okt would probably have gone into c-tier, being more expensive than a Cutlass, and worse in most metrics, even though I do love the Spirit series.
@@AstralGemini i still have the A325 "starter package" And you still can get the 10k starterpackage :P " i think you should have a roof when its out of the starter area. The Andromeda is out of the "starter" area. i would even go as far as the freelancer and the cutlass. But that is just my opinion.
The C8X Pisces Expedition is my game package ship and one I often recommend for a new pilot, although I'm a bit of an outlier within the community in that I never subscribe to some idea of what is "best," but lean more towards "what is appropriate for this particular pilot." Side note: This video misuses the word "snub" on three ships. By CIG's definition, _none_ of those three are snubs. 😱
CIG themselves use the word Snub on the store page for the C8X pisces. robertsspaceindustries.com/pledge/Standalone-Ships/C8X-Pisces-Expedition Thus I reasonably compare similar size and spec ships to the pisces with their ability to perform a similar snub craft role, not that they are specifically classed as a snub, but they can fill that role.
@@AstralGemini That link references the C8 as a snub rather than the C8X though - the wording is not immediately clear until you realise what it's saying. Mark Gibson posted on Spectrum about the C8X one time using the phrase, "technically not a snub," and I've seen someone reference another CIG statement to the same effect too. It's one of the things that the "lying" ship matrix keeps fairly consistent when it lists the Pisces as "small" and not "snub." The ones listed as "snub" lack quantum drives and also include grav-lev bikes.
One of the biggest advantages is that the Pisces can be spawned on small ground vehicle pads and still has a QT drive (like the 100i, Talon, Hull A, 85X). Such a nice little ship.
@@marcjensen9080 Yeah, the Pisces originally started out as a snub and was specific to the Carrack. But CIG likely smelled money and as such turned it into a standalone version once they managed to squeeze a quantum+jumpdrive into it. At that point it ceased to be a snub and became a fully independent shuttle. A snub by definition is a ship that does not have a quantumdrive. :) Also reminds me that the 85X from Origin is not a snub either as that one was also given a quantumdrive (but cannot install a jumpdrive afaik).
Never realized how many small starters I actually possess. To me the Avenger Titan is still the best-bang-for-buck starter in terms of cargo and combat; and seeing how CIG raised the price of that ship twice (from $50 to $55 and then $60) we can see they think so too. The 300-series is pretty decent too if you'd like a bit more luxury but that series is a little awkward with each variant having differing hardpoint sizes and cargo; as such I chose the 325a. Slightly less cargo than the Titan but similar combat capabilities while offering more amenities (toilet+kitchen+weaponrack). The ladder entry makes is the only drawback imo. Originally I didn't really see the benefit of the 100-series; until it was possible to call them up from vehicle pads on moons and planets. Since then it's a ship that I fly quite often; but not sure if you can still call them up from vehicle pads on moons. Originally I owned both the 125a and 135c but I chose to keep the 135c myself as you're not going to be winning any combat. The nearly infinite hydrogen is the biggest bonus. The Intrepid has a cool interior but overall it's a rather useless ship and you'd likely be better off with an Avenger Titan as the Intrepid's single S4 gun and single S1 shield make it pretty pointless in combat while only carrying 8SCU (same as Titan). It's effectively a space winebago and I'm not sure if I will keep it after the novelty has worn off. I was also very pleasantly surprised by the C8 Pisces and personally love it very much as it packs everything in a tiny package. Room for 2 passengers as well as 4SCU of cargo in such a tiny shuttle is very nice. The medical version is also very cool; although you lose all cargo capacity and also have to give up 2 gun hardpoints. The Nomad is also a very decent ship but I really think CIG should have given it a proper bathroom in that small hallway and then move the 2 components at the end of that hallway into the cabinet that used to house the toilet. Then it could have been perfect. The Cutter is a nice and quirky ship with all the amenities onboard but a bit too bulky. I doubt I will keep mine. I'm not really considering the Constellation as a 'starter', and I fear that CIG will nerf its pilot guns from S5 to S4 at some point; but I do love my Taurus as a cargo transport and will probably use an AI blade on the top turret once we (finally) get blades.
They actually did. It got discontinued. But I think they've rolled out temporary Reliant game packages for things like Coramor since then. I think. I could be wrong.
For this video I only looked at ships that are bundled as a starter game package. It's unfortunate that the Reliant game pack was discontinued because I quite like those ships.
they indeed did release a starter pack based on the kore, i have it in my buybacks, it is the package i purchase on my current account, when i returned to SC around 2020.
Why skip over the Connie Taurus and mention the Andromeda as a starter ship? The Taurus is the best bang-for-buck all around ship in the game. It's cheap for the capabilities. Obviously ships like that aren't dogfighters. But 4 S5 weapons and tons of missiles make it phenomenal. You can fit almost 200SCU in it too.
Personally I think that the biggest problem with the Intrepid is that the Titan is actually crazy underpriced. Also it was always designed with a S4 from the beginning but they only changed it to a S3 because they knew people would complain saying it should be a S5 (which it should)
It definitely should be a size 5 gun. a single size 4 gun on a ship that big is silly, to say nothing of it only having 1 damn shield too. idk what CIG was smoking when they designed it but I still think the Intrepid is the worst starter in the game at the moment.
@@AstralGemini a S4 is fine but CIG failed to make it THE laser gun ship. Imagine a S2 shield and 2 S2 Generators. Having like 300 shots with a Laser Repeater and almost instand reload.

The Cutlass is twice the price of the Titan, and while it's a fantastic ship, it being the same price as the freelancer but worse in almost every single aspect makes it a much worse purchase dollar for dollar. The Titan is incredibly versatile and does more than most other starter ships, especially more than many that are far more expensive than it.
