I’m from North Carolina and have never stepped foot into Texas except for the airport in Dallas and yet I still love Big Tex! Perhaps one day I’ll be able to see the Brobdingnagian One in person. Just the previous month we had the tragic airplane crash at the Reno Air Races with 11 lives lost, so I suppose my mind was else where then. I had attended them for many years. Losing Big Tex was small news compared to a World War II fighter plowing into the crowds. May all who were lost continue to RIP. Glad Big Tex was rebuilt.
For all of the people who comment on how strange or cheap Big Tex looks, I wonder how many of you have ever been or lived in TX. Don't let the media be your only source for info or its politicians be the only people you think live there - I lived there for four years and found most folks just genuinely friendly and more than willing to help you experience the Texas spirit, which tends to be big and lively and good spirited, just like the statute.
That doesnt mean people have diffrent opinions but I was born in Texas and never grew up there but now I'm back and I agree that people are kind but that doesnt mean other peolle have opinions I honestly think big Tex is creepy but they did put alot of effort into I and I appreciate that.
i remember telling a police officer i smell a very light burning electrical smell, while at fletchers, But fletchers checked everything in the stand and none of us realized the wind was carrying the smell our direction !! AND minutes later SMOKE !!! Seconds later ...People crying like it was the end of the world !!!!

I don’t care if you make fun of me for thinking his awesome. You try and make an iconic giant statue of a cowboy if you think it’s easy. I guarantee you it’s gonna be harder than it sounds. Big Tex, I’m glad you exist. And to those who ain’t down with that, well then I got 2 words for ya: SUCK IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
