The Velcro bit in your liner is for putting damp socks and gloves etc in to dry off when you are sleeping in it. Defence 4 hard to beat, but it looks like Varusteleka have done it. I was once told, if you are going to spend money on 2 things it is a sleeping bag and your boots as if you are not in one you are in the other.
People shouldn't just on the cost of things. If you can rock out in the woods with a 30quid bag from GoOutdoors that's cool. People with 300quic bags shouldn't judge you for getting a bag that suits your budget. Likewise, people with folk with 30quid bags shouldn't just people with a larger budget. I've got a few piece of gear in the M05 camo and it's awesome. It works in the UK just as good as MTP/multicam. Loving the content by the way fella. I'm new to your channel and binging everything on my lunch
Another banger, Wooly! Probably the best military bag available but I'll likely never purchase it Down will always be better than synthetic insulation in every way (assuming at least 750FP+/300FW); warmer, lighter, more compressible, and (assuming proper maintenance) retains insulation integrity longer over time making it more environmentally efficient (plus no PFC's if the shell is manufactured by a company that cares) Anxiety about down becoming wet and losing its insulating properties is the real pandemic. This isn't a concern for civilian use. Prolonged exposure to variable weather conditions where the user is not resourced to properly maintain the insulation is the only rationale to use synthetic. This is why law enforcement and armed forces use synthetic insulation. It just makes more sense for their applications I use a down sleeping bag all year round in the Great Lakes area. Hot, humid, cold, damp, dry, we have it all. Down has never failed. If I were in the military, I would use synthetic insulation no questions asked Despite all this, I still want the bag and will probably make up a reason that justifies why I should buy it. It's just too cool!
Love the camo pattern on this, Wooly. The price,,, wellllll, a bit high for many folks. I know the "get what you pay for" analogy. I explain it to my clients many times. I also say. "It's not that (I am) it's too expensive,,, it's just that you can't afford (me) the item in question 😄
@@RedBranchBushcraft Let’s put it this way with the price. If I had a good earner one week, I wouldn’t hesitate in buying one 😁 I hope you do get some good service from it, Wooly. The pattern is the poodles undercarriage. Make sure you don’t lose it in the camps 😁👍🏼
Nice bag RB. Our lower temp rated bags from the nineties are huge and heavy, and I'm not a fan of mummy bags. I like more roomy inside. Go tinkle in the night?... ..when I hammock camp I like my hammock high up/or times there's 2 set up as bunk beds with the missus below. (I'm 6'4") Kind of pain in and out when sleepy...probably had a number of beers. ~ I put an empty resealable coffee can down in the bottom of the bag. I just reach out and dump it, reseal and back to sleep. Just make sure ya get a large enough can. lol
We had this sleeping bag (SA M05) in the Finnish Army in the original olive green color. Great bag and I'm sure to buy one someday if I get to camp often.
I've had the normal defence 4 for a few years now, and I absolutely love it - it's an amazing bag (though very, very bulky, which is it's only drawback). This iteration looks fantastic in the camo pattern, and the fire resistant footbox is a nice addition, but I think the standard version is fine for me on my budget: the pattern is cosmetic, I already have a liner, and I don't really need the footbox augmentation. Keep the videos coming dude - they're always good; I would love to see more on the thermal cloak (actually just going to nip over to your video on that one video now, to pick your brains on it a little more before potentially buying). All the best!
I love my defense 4 my only complaint is that it’s a bit snug in the shoulders for me but it keeps me so warm. I got the 6’7 version if this is wider in the shoulders I will be buying it
Slovanian army carinthia slocam defences 1 and 4 slocam If you love your camo wooly im lucky i have them both slocam and m05 Stay lucky atb with it wooly.
I can't comment on this yet but the carinthia defence 4 I have is a superior bag to the fesca version, might need a side by side video , what do you think?
@@RedBranchBushcraft Yes, definitely. Not everyone can stretch to a Carinthia, while a brand new Fecsa version is £49.00 around these parts. All the best.👍🏾🇬🇧
I got my very large sleeping bag in 84 from the stores and forgot to return it 😂. Its huge i give a store guy a few tins of beer for it.And happily got lost in the bag it was that big. Until i got fat and old😂
IF. big IF, huge IF, you need to be in camo in the woods then the most outer layer must be camo. and in some cases you be fine with od green with some foliage. so, if your outer layer is your sleeping bag then, maybe. but for all the other cases you dont need to buy camo underware.
If you can afford it and want it, why not? When you said that you don't ever see -15 Celcius I went what the-? Then remembered you are in the UK, it has been consistently -17 Celcius here for three nights. Yup, unseasonably mild for me as most nights this year haven't broken-10 Celcius.

Ah, that makes sense, cheers
To date ive been to 16F with this bag with no complaints
Excellent stuff
That finnish cammo looks really cool
It's class, and very effective
Think I will stick to the British army medium bag, and buy a good tent with the change! 😮😮
Lol, it's a good bag too
Medium mine is the biggest size you could get lol had mine from the late 80s😂
Bouncing bomb?
I got a defence 4 mtp bag last week for £205, itching to get to try out, wont be long as the winter is fast approaching the north of scotland.
Great buy
