How well does this work using MIDI? I'm not interested in the sounds of the kit as I will be using MIDI. But how do the dynamics and velocity work in terms of quality for MIDI?
Hello, it could be the sound itself just doesn’t stand out as well. You could switch to a different closed hat sound. They also have sensitivity and volume setting for each. It could also very well be that the rest of the kit is adjusted too loud and is simply overpowering the closed hat.
So for this drum set, I can hook up my ipod and play along to my music and also hear the drums through my headphones? Also, would I have to buy an additional cord for connecting the ipod?
One major problem. Tom 2 cross triggers easily when you hit the other pads. I've sent the kit for repairs and according to them, it is the nature of the drum and I cannot do anything about it.
@@rajivmalhotra6227 Of course he isn't joking!! Iphones are overpriced garbage, so why would anyone who can't afford to get a better set than the 400 spend a $1000.00 or more so they can ALSO buy some MORE software on top of anything? YOUR joking with that question right?

MuSiCMaNiA2104 Well you are right I would recommend just bumping up to a higher level kit that includes all the features that you are looking for. It would also include features in the module that would not exist in the 400 series. Unfortunately the 400 series modules can't handle the 3 zone pads to give you the full range of playing you are looking for.
Is it possible to add a second kick pedal to this? I don't however want a kit that isn't expandable to a second kick as I play mainly Metal. If so, please link me to a decent one, as I don't know much about e drums
Hi Grant, the answer is a bit of yes and no. What you can do is change the sound of the hit hat pedal to a kick drum sound. The down side is that you then wouldn't be able to open and close the hit hat while also being able to play with double kick. If you are playing metal then this should work unless you are playing prog style stuff then you may run into some issues. If you want the full playability I would recommend bumping up the DTX450K you could then use the double kick pedal that you would use on an acoustic kick. Hello Duray, I would also recommend an acoustic kit for anyone's first drum set. If that truly is out of the question then the 400 series is a good place to start. I would say to get the 450 because you can use an actual acoustic drum pedal for the bass drum. That means you can purchase whatever pedal you like and you would be able to use it on an acoustic kit when you do get one and the resistance will be the same.

Thank you for sharing! I have one question. Will the kick produce a lot of vibration? if so what can i do to reduce it because i live on a second floor
The kick on this kit is an electric trigger so the noise level is very low. If you are playing on carpet or a pad then you should have no problems with it.
Yes. You may upgrade to a 3-zone snare pad that allows you to play open and closed rim-shots with the TP70S or a 3-zone XP80 DTX-PAD*1. You can also add an extra cymbal with the PCY90AT that includes everything you need to play with dual crash cymbals.

I want to use the pads and module for extra cymbals. The question is; using the 400k module, can I change the snare/toms pads into cymbal triggers like you can in the 500?
Yes you can program any pad to any sound on the 400 module. The two modules would function independent of each other however. It would work for recording but for play back you would have to run the modules through a mixer then listen to the mixdown of both.
